If Luba & Charlie are indeed pairing, there seems to be reason for hopeful promise. Luba is listed at 5'0", while Julianne is listed at 5'1", so no real difference there. But with Charlie's height (5'11") and his partnering skills, matched with Luba's flexibility, lovely aesthetics, and wowza lift positions, we may get to see some great lifts and throws. Time will tell if/how it all works out.

Meanwhile, let's take a look back:

Thank-you so much for gathering my favorite programs of both

The problem with Bruno and company is that it seems you HAVE to use Julie Marcotte for choreo. I’d like to see someone else other than Julie M choreo for I/B.
No it is not a requirement for Bruno's camp or other places in Canada. This is garbage spewed by Dave Lease who does not factcheck when he is fed garbage info from his favourite cdn source. Julie Marcotte is an excellant choreographer who is also Bruno's sister so of course he will suggest her, especially if the teams style will suit her style. The program where she rec'd a lot of criticism 2 yrs ago was Les Anges Passe done by KMT2 where a classical emotional side of the team was the object. It fell flat the first year as the team was not able to do it justice but after 2 yrs of training it and help on the acting within it it was declared a masterpiece.

So as I was dozing off last night, the announcement(s) came! Lubov paired up with Mervin Tran. Julianne ended up with either Liam Firus or yet another Wolfe sibling and Charlie claimed Larkyn who is not really injured but has been practising in secret!
See, you want to know anything, you ask me! If any of this comes true, I can assure you I will choke on my tea!

I'd love to see what Shae Lynn or Rohene Ward could do for pairs.

Shae Lynn (along with Shae Zukiwsky) choreographed Seguin & Bilodeau’s Cirque du Soleil program that I keep mentioning I liked so much. I’d be happy to see Lubov and Charlie work with the two Shaes again. (Zukiwsky also did my other favourite Séguin & Bilodeau program, the The Grand Budapest Hotel)

I agree with the first half but not the second part of this post.

Les Anges Passe was awesome. I first saw it at SC camp in their first year with it when KMT was still concussed and didn't do half the elements. The program was brand new and I just loved it at first sight. I approached Mike that day and said how much I loved the program and wouldn't be disappointed if they kept it for a second year at the Olympics. I'm glad they did.

Agree, Julie does very good choreo but her music choices are in a small range and many times unremarkable for the skaters. I point to the Ginette Reno short for D/R and long for the North Korean pair, the short in MT/M first year in Montreal and just about anything she's done for R/W except their Beatles long. The R/W programs this year are so beyond bland I have watched both several times and still cannot recall one single thing about either program including the music.

Having said that she has a very good list of successes so it's not all bad by any stretch.

I'm sure Julie will play a role with I/B and I'm cool with that but I think we all agree they need to experiment with styles. I'm counting on something interesting in even their first season together.

I am lukewarm myself on Julie M. but then I may not be aware of programs she has done for teams with big personalities. I would rather they use other ones...Like Shae Lyne Bourne, Lance Vipond, Rohene Ward, Sandra Bezic or whoever did the Cirque du Soleil program for S/B. I love the programs coming from Yvan Desjardin's teams and would prefer they go there.

Shae Squared also choreographed Kayne/O'Shea's Swan Lake LP and their first SP for this season. Always eager to see their work for pairs.

Are Marvaldi/Villeneuve done? I know it has been asked before but I don't recall seeing an answer. Last I heard he was recovering from a concussion but that was quite a while ago. I don't recall seeing any news about either of them.

And both Shaes also choreographed U.S. pairs Kayne/O'Shea's brilliant next level Swan Lake fp they've used the last two seasons. ETA: I didn't notice this was already mentioned a few posts ago by @jmtfti.

Russia should be mad to release Stolbova, that will never happen. She should also have a comfortable pension etc for her Olympic gold medal, why jeopardise that with a country hop.

I know they’d never release her, but Russian pairs is crazy and I need the queen on the 2022 Olympic team.

Not to mention, why would Stolbova want to pair with Bilodeau and skate for Canada?

Because she might not be able to get Novoselov out of Didier’s greedy hands, and she needs a backup plan. But of course, all of this is just fantasy.

Thank you for digging up all this info so I can reminisce!

I’m honestly so excited I can’t even breathe. I want them to win everything. Call me delusional but I want this.

So incredibly sweet that Drew learned french (quite well, I might add) as someone coming from out west.

Surprised that neither Meg nor Eric seemed to have gotten any grasp of the language given their roots in the city.
I have friends who moved from Ontario to Quebec and have been living in Montreal for over twenty years, and they speak less French than I do (and my French is passable, but I am not truly bilingual by any estimation). I think it is relatively easy to live there and speak little French, and vice versa - I also know several people in Montreal who were immigrants from French-speaking countries, have been living there for years now, and barely speak or understand English.

French and English in Quebec is fun and games. In the rest of Canada there is sporadic French taught and the other provinces are English speaking. English used to be taught the same way in Quebec. In my day we were taught French from a non-bilingual teacher with university Parisian French. Hence we did not understand a word a true Quebecoise said even if we had repeated same word 100 times in class the day before. The exams we wrote were very difficult so during our hour lesson a day we just learned grammer rules, conjugations and basic words. Definitely no time to talk French...too busy writing and memorizing. As far as the French children....The French government did not want French people learning English which would allow them to work anywhere in Canada so they would have to stay in Quebec and work for whatever wage was offered. In order to learn English they had to go to non-subsidized private schools who could do what they wanted. Of course Quebec politicians all sent their children to those schools. In my childrens day(they are grown) some schools offered immersion programs and that is where I sent my kids. My youngest did all day kindergarden where half day was French and half day was English as well. They are both quite comfortable in both languages and can work in them. So now most of my parents generation are dead. My generation of English depends on what community you lived in and what area's you explored in your life experiences. (and if you had a pig head or not). Quebec has opened their arms to many refugees from war torn countries. This is terrific as it saved many lives and of course the deal was you must learn, live and work in French. If you lived in a smaller French community it would make sense that you might not have picked up English. But not to worry.....in the next 20 years all the English who were not able to pick up French adequately will be dead.

Especially Meagan, since she's from Sudbury which, for Ontario, is a very bilingual city. (And she's married to a Quebecois man...)

:wall::violin::blah: Times have changed. Kids learn English in first grade in Quebec and 35 years ago, it was in fourth grade.

That is said, Meagan did not learn French because she is a focussed lady and put all her energy into her things, which were skating and vegan food. Lots of other Canadians training in Quebec now speak good French. Moore-Towers gave a :40beers: interview in French at SkateCanada. Good for her. Learning languages is a plus for anybody, anywhere. It opens your mind, it makes your brain working adn seeing things with a slight different twist! :)

Sandra Bezic or whoever did the Cirque du Soleil program for S/B...

Wasn't it M-F Dubreuil though who did the Cirque program for S/B? Her husband and partner, Patch, was at rinkside with S/B's coach, Josee Picard, in the link I posted previously.

As someone who tried to learn French a few years ago and failed miserably, the struggle is real.

Yes, especially proper French pronunciation. The tongue must move in ways unaccustomed. :D :COP:

It must be really quiet in the Canadian pairs business to end-up discussing about French and English in Québec!

Things will soon be rumbling with Canadian Nationals on the horizon! Mayhap Charlie et Luba announcement/press conference and interview will be held in French with Russian and English subtitles.

Well this brought back memories! I remember going to Montreal for Expo67 for a week. I too had a non-bilingual French teacher who taught Parisian French but I was convinced that I could speak French there anc come back home bilingual! Of course, it was a colossal failure! I couldn't understand French speakers and they could not understand me and were really really not interested.
