Hate speech is not problematic because it's un-PC. It's also not problematic because it's inconvenient. It's problematic because people with different abilities, genders, sexualities, races, religions, etc. deserve to be treated with respect. Any argument to the contrary is blatantly inconsistent with any conception of justice, ethics, morality, or democracy that I believe is valid.
The "argument" that Americans are obsessed with political correctness = it's necessary or great to purposefully use un-PC words no matter how hateful they are is fallacious. (For clarity, I'm not saying using hate speech should be illegal, but it's definitely not laudable.) By that "logic," it would be totally fine for people to call me a faggot, or to call my dad and his relatives kikes, or . . . etc.
Despite the fact that I am an evil, godless leftist, I do think political correctness in America deserves to be questioned and criticized. I think that haters (and by that I do not mean people who offer reasoned critiques of Meagan Duhamel's skating skills or Shoma Uno's pre-rotations) should be free to express their hate in whatever language they want to. But I think that it's important that such hate speech is called what it is, and criticized, and subverted, and etc.
"Retard" is hate speech. As to whether that's okay on FSU, that's not up to me. I don't think it should be illegal or censored in general; it does seem to violate the site's rules, but I'm not in charge of interpreting those. Hateful provocations backed up with sophistic "responses" to rational arguments do piss me off, however, and that's the end of my rant.
On topic: I hope Bradie Tennell gets two artistically impressive and mature programs next season.
