Challenge Cup assignments:

Junior ladies: Katie Krafchik (J5), Mia Barghout (J12)
Advanced novice: Jessica Jurka (J7)

Based off this, I'm guessing that Keira Hilbelink (J2), Annika Chao (J9) and probably Ela Cui (J11) will go to Egna Spring Trophy

Challenge Cup assignments come from the USFS international assignments page

Lindsay maybe just needs time to adjust to her new growth without more events that might undermine her confidence further. I really love her skating and hope she can get back on track with the jumps. I don’t see her even medaling at junior worlds this year because of the phase she is in.

I tend to agree that Clare has had lots of junior opportunities that haven’t really gone anywhere. But she has some great aspects to her skating so I’m always hopeful for her.

Much as I hate to say it because I think Ava Z could be a real star, her triple lutz alone and in combination was mia at nationals at both practices I watched. And her spins were going all wonky too. So I can see Clare getting the nod because of that. But if Ava ever gets her technique consistent, look out!

Even before Nationals, I assumed that Lindsay was done with junior skating and mentally moved on. She won the bronze at JW last year, and likely felt there wasn't any more upside to doing JW again. I agree with above observation that her growth might have thrown her off a little bit, and she'd rather spend training time adjusting her technique and practicing her current senior programs, in the event--however unlikely--that she was called upon for a post-Nationals competition. She's already in top 24 in World Standings and will likely get two GP's next season (definitely, if Russians are not allowed back into competition in the fall).

Josephine Lee's 15th birthday yesterday included being named to her first Junior World team! (I was happy to run into her in the concourse last Saturday :)): https://twitter.com/SylviaUnseen/status/1621902357784150021

I heard 7 women attended the camp in Las Vegas so Sherry Zhang (Junior pewter medalist) was the one not listed among the 3 selected for Junior Worlds and the 3 alternates - here are Josephine's pics from the camp: https://www.instagram.com/p/CoOsBIfLN66/

I met Sherry's supportive and energetic little sister in San Jose (link to my 2 tweets about her today): https://twitter.com/SylviaUnseen/status/1621943504522838017
Sherry Zhang's Nationals post includes, in her last pic, her sister holding up the same sign that's in my photo: https://www.instagram.com/p/CoGx-YzrN_R/

Isabeau is missing?? Oh she withdrew because of health issues. Is it the altitude?

I was wondering when she didn’t appear for warmup. Altitude sickness is real. Hope she is going to be okay.
Not sure if it was the altitude. She didn't practice before the short program, and apparently had a bad practice today per Chris Howarth.

I'm really bummed that Isabeau had to WD from 4CCs, because I think she'd have had this title had she been well.

Having said that, I still think it was a mistake for the USFS to send her to 4CCs instead of Starr, especially since, in hindsight, she didn't get the WS points necessary to propel her into the final group at Worlds. Nor did Amber get enough to put her into the penultimate group, and Bradie will probably wind up in the 1st half (as predicted).

I decided to go to bed and skip this event skip four continents last night . (I’m sure peacock will probably not think it’s worth putting on replay. I haven’t been able to find any other events on replay yet.). So when I looked at the scores, I was worried that Isabeau was injured, but if she’s just sick, that’ll probably be easier to recover from.

I think a lot of the issue for US women at 4CCs was they just finished competing at Nationals. JPN and KOR had a lot more rest time. I'm not going to read more into the mediocre results. But consider where Bradie was a few months ago, and where she is now. She is doing quite well for herself

It is only the women's free that is offered on replay and it says there's one more day to watch, so it will be fleeting.

ITA. I think Bradie is on a good trajectory coming back from her injury and time off of skating and competing.

I think Isabeau would have been better off if she had been invited to Art on Ice and gone there instead. :p Heck, she would have been better off if she had just gone home, decompressed, and then worked on her programs in preparation for Worlds.

Isabeau must have been exhausted after Nationals, and it's easier to get sick or sicker when you are exhausted. U.S. Nationals is a very stressful and exhausting event for most skaters. But, even more so for Isabeau. So much pressure and expectations on her. She arrived at the arena to compete and was asked by Andrea Joyce about being the favorite to win. (I wanted to reach through my screen and shake Andrea Joyce.) She's already being asked about the Olympics that are three years away. Tara was predicting many national titles for Isabeau, which is a ridiculous prediction for any skater. Isabeau reportedly broke into tears backstage after she won. Then, after all that, she didn't get to go home. She went straight to Colorado. That's a lot.

Nathan talks in his memoir about how much pressure and anxiety he felt from the media expectations of him. I used to think of Nathan as being quite calm (aside from the 2018 Olympics), but he makes it very clear that he dealt with a lot of anxiety and pressure. The media pressures may not have been the primary reason for that, but he makes it clear that they definitely contributed to it and not just at the Olympics itself. He also talks about the need for pacing, varying the intensity of his training and competing, and tapering. He didn't really learn that and accept that until later in his career, largely when going to Yale (and not having his mother with him) kind of required him to do that. At that point, he had someone physically helping him with the pacing and also had a helpful sports psychologist. I hope Isabeau has the resources to help her both with her physical and psychological preparation and health.
