The Dance Hall, Part 4: To Helsinki & Back -- Seeking Rhumba Magic ...

If it's true, it seems to be a sign of desperation from both Elena and Nikita. That said, it will get people excited even if just for the trainwreck factor and wondering if they will surprisingly hit it out of the ballpark this season. Those behind this are probably thinking that this partnership only needs to last the season.

These are RUMORS. I insisted that it comes from fans. When it comes from fans, it can be baseless.
IMO we'll know soon enough who's on the team.

It reminds me a press conference during TEB in the Olympic year where Pechalat got all annoyed stating how that Russian couple was being propped up right in time. She added she was not amused :glamor:They finished 3rd at the time behind V/M and I/K. It was also the same comp where Guillaume nearly hit Tessa during practice, the drama in this competition :drama:

Yes, we all know this. That's why my post was prefaced with "if it's true..."

I'll never forget Pechelat's face during the victory ceremony at TEB. Girl knew what was up. I don't think she could have foresaw what was going to happen at 2014 Worlds, though.

Looking at this season, Nikita is far from having matured. From his shenanigans in Marina's camp, to the crazy idea of engaging in a relationship with one's partner (I know this is a personal judgment but you'd think after such a tumultuous relationship with Elena, he would do everything in its power to minimize any kind of tension. Going out with one's partner is the surest way to mess everything up imo), to his technical regression and finally to the lack of combativeness during competition cf twizzles disaster at Euros, Nikita is still the volatile Nikita.
Elena, I couldn't say but she sure didn't skate to her potential this year. It seems she tends to coast on training and physical preparation. Those two together, trainwreck in the making. Could be entertaining though ...

Oh Nikita defi has matured. It was merely IF they both had matured it would be something I would be open to. But they haven't.

That's a good point, if they were to get together this next season... it would just be until the Olympics and I can't see them beyond that.

I'm confused. According to the rumours, is it Nikita and Elena who arranged the tryout or the Russian fed?

Penny is on the ice again. First time I read about the accident, and God, it was horrible, if you are sensitive DON´T READ IT!. Poor girl, I am glad she is better.

And I can´t believe she is afraid that a shark can attack her in a pool . And people make fun of me when I tell them that I'm afraid of sharks in the sea  .

So happy for her! Hoping to see them at the Olympics - this will be their third one, I believe. They've always been one of my favorites, even if they don't score in the very top tier. :)

Well, with the dates posted by Sylvia

Cup of Russia - Oct. 19-22, 2017
Skate Canada - Oct. 26-29
Cup of China - Nov. 2-5
NHK Trophy - Nov. 9-12
Trophee de France - Nov. 16-19
Skate America - Nov. 24-26

Shibs Russia :wall: and Skate America, V/M Canada and NHK and P/C China and France

Russia may make reunited I/k number one as b/S and S/b had the worst showing ever for Russians since ice dance became an Olympic sport and judges buried b/S brutally in the sd so they would have no chance at a medal. But there were many totally unpredictable disasters which allowed them to rise to embarrassing fifth -worst Showing ever for Russia number one at the worlds before the Olympics! Even l/a got bronze in 2001 in the chaos after k/o shock retirement.

So I decided to re-watch the Latin SDs at 2012 Worlds and.....dear God, I think I blocked out how cringeworthy 90% of them were. I don't know how beneficial having all these Latin SDs on the biggest stage in the world at the Olympics is going to help ice dance's reputation tbh. I don't want to be harsh but most of these teams looked like an utter joke.

Just to say it's not the judges who buried them because they got decent PCS overall, but the Technical panel by downgraded one step sequence to a level 2 and then 2 level 3. They finished 5th on the PCS with 36.86 behind V/M, P/C, C/B and S/S finishing even before the 3rd team H/D. So not so bad.

Have the Grand Prix assignments been released already?

It was embarrassing tbh. That was also a situation where I wasn't the biggest fan of V/M's FD, but D/W's OD was so comically bad (Charlie stiff and awkward, Meryl chewing all the scenery) that they kinda didn't deserve the World title alone on the grounds of that atrocity. V/M had a really good Latin SD, which might be their advantage going into the Olympics as well: They seem capable of interpreting that kind of music somewhat convincingly, which puts them ahead of most other dance couples (even the top ones).

Agree. V/M are the best in Latin among all the ice dancers right now. Other teams I see doing well in Latin include H/D, W/P, C/L, Ilinykh and partner. Teams like P/C where the man has more star quality might not be at their best.

I really wouldn't count on Hubbell/Donohue being any good at Latin if their 2012 SD is anything to go by....:slinkaway (Also, did everyone just crib V/M's 2011 free dance music that year? I shudder to think how many Hip Hip Chin Chin's there'll be next season.)

It's funny to me that you say that because I feel that way about the SDs this season. I THANK GOD the ISU didn't decide to put this 'hip hop' test during the Olympic year. Imagine the memes:scream:. I'm bummed we're revisiting the rumba pattern so soon but with the wide range of accompanying rhythms that the ISU has made as available options I'm excited for what the skaters will come up with. I can't wait to see which choreographers the teams pull out the woodwork, this should be fun.

You do realize that H/D hadn't even been skating together for a full year yet at that point?

It is right, SD´s 2011-12 were so silly, but I hope being olympic season, everyone will give the 200%. IMO the most convincing team were W/P, too bad the horrible costumes. I hope now the teams will be more original, in worlds 2012, just in the top 5 I heard 3 times, yes, 3 damn times the song Mujer latina by Thalía and 2 times Volverás by Gloria Estefan :duh:.

I can't wait to see all that cheese again :D I live for awful costumes too. The only thing that I really don't want is too many teams using the same music.

In certain doses obviously ...

I consider them judges too. Some do both a lot. Go from tech panel to judging panel and wear many hats. They are all really the same people.
