The quotas for Pairs and Ice Dance are different though: 20 Pairs and 20 Dance teams will make the Free in Stockholm, but only 19 Pairs and 23 Dance Teams will qualify for the Olympics in total. It used to be 16 Pairs of 20 total and 19 Teams of 24 was based on Worlds; the document doesn't show the breakdown with the new total quotas. If there is a split, then any lone team skating for an NOC may not qualify an Olympic spot by making the Free.

And it's not trivial that where an NOC loses a spot, making the free skate for singles doesn't by any means guarantee a spot, if the NOC loses one or two spots in the process.

I thought it was 25 teams make the Free in Dance...

There's an entire other thread in the Worlds forum that is already discussing this. The document breaks down how many spots are earned at Worlds.

I'm still not understanding the disconnect between the first part of the criteria that you're quoting and the very next lines in the same criteria.

@Karen-W it's 20 teams to the free dance, same as pairs (in referencing Worlds)

I hope that Tuktamysheva changed to this simpler Short Program as a strategic move so that she would be able to execute her Free Skate (especially the solo triple axel) better. We shall see. ?

I’m looking forward to seeing if this trend of messy final flights continues in the other short segments — just think, the final five of the RD includes both Katsalapov and Donohue.
Oh, the final 5 for the RD could be quite the error-fest. Snakegirl & Bates aren't exactly known for their competition nerves of steel.

Boss on ladies
(sorry @AngieNikodinovLove no comment on all ladies, but I am willing to reconsider for FS depending on :bribe:)

(((Meite))). I hate when careers are ending like that. And i hope this won't be the case here.
Schott. Of course landing several clean 3-3 in warm-up to **** it up. I told in advance it will be 3t2t. No kidding. Let's be real. This program is really bad, the costume not flattering and even I was  she made the cut. Lucky girl. Hope for a decent FS, which had potential imho.
LaTuk. :glamor: No words needed. Medal. please.
Chen. I love her. Program so crap.
Kim. Best development. Jumps so huge, the combo insane, great presentation
Ryabova. Mambo Italian. @alchemy void did she make Klotz proud?
Taljegard. So robbed of audience :drama:
Chen CHN. So clean in her skating. I enjoy so much, if she just would be a bit interesting :drama:
Miyahara. Class of her own in everything besides jumping. This program is a masterpiece
Kurakova. I bet vice was going mental on the Janet Jackson medley.

Please fix that result and we would have the 3 (potential/to be secured) spots for RUS, JPN, KOR and USA

Boss on pairs

B/K. Don't agree with the gap. No fan of his posture, especially not today.
S/H. Can't stand Blues for Klook. And they lost me a bit 1,2 years ago. Still
M/G. A bit tense. But he is hot as ****. All that matters! ?
P/J. Maybe the program I liked the most :shuffle:
Bidar/Zhuk. What is that ridiculous beard? Get it off. her splat reaction puts her in the MESS race.

It will be death to my soul when JPN and AUT might win 2 (potential/to be secured)spots and GER walks away with 1.
DRAMA!

If that happens to Germany, I will be  when Savchenko orders Bruno to the ice and tells Annika, sorry, sweetie. It's mine! I want another medal. It will be Plushenko to Kovtun redux.

LMAO! And you're exactly right - It will be our Empress ordering Bruno to the ice. Poor Annika and Minerva.

Khuda is following Tuk hard in her footsteps :glamor:

Somehow this feels like it could have been content of IrinaLux profile too :D

LOLLLL. OK I just did a marathon five hours of watching figure skating nonstop. I just finished women’s and pairs and this is the first post I’m doing. First of all I can’t believe USA pairs - if they stay where they are - will be able to send three teams to the Olympics and worlds next year. And I know boss you must’ve loved Karen Chen. She was brilliant and her dress really matched the set decoration of the rink.

And if USA ladies stay the same they also can send three

One thing that has stuck in my mind for five hours is Yelim jump combination should have been +5 across-the-board. That was incredible

Bidar/Zhuk. What is that ridiculous beard? Get it off. her splat reaction puts her in the MESS race.

Ohhhhh no!! No, no, no, no, NO!!!!

Bidar is so HOT! Just as he is. I was so intrigued again once I saw him in that first warm-up group

And I made a note we need to include him for PORNY next December.

And yes a reaction such as that while you’re actually still in the midst of making the mistake is MESS!!

Oh my, the Japanese pair? I already re-watched them twice this morning.

B/K were a delight. They went to a Russian Tolstoj-ball while skating to Hisahishi? So light on their feet. Magic moment when he swirls her around in the steps. And they have such chemistry. Pairs aren’t about doing crap sbs spins in zero synch. (B/K were perfect synch).

S/H? This program is passion. Not as great as Dai, his are one of the masterpieces of skating, but man, I love them.

Leftovers :gallopin1 :wuzrobbedSplat, rock, bizarre on ice accident, they are queuing up at the ticket office again right now.

Cutie Austrians are enjoying it so much. Just clean and joyful. I love them. But they made me miss Hase/Seegert even more:wuzrobbed

H/K good, still a little work in progress.

Zoe & Chris gave it their all, and just 23 days on the ice is impressive, but man, Chris could have done some off ice in the meantime. He barely got off the ice moving around and his edges were really flat. Zoe is excellent fit at 41! Even chain smoker Dmitriev never skated this bad:gallopin1

Man in the iron mask-pair: His hair was flying so beautifully in the wind while skating. (We know whats important).

Best hair 2.0: Antonio SK

T/M: The beard must go!!! He looks like he’s in a bad 70ies movie.

LeDuc: The beard can stay. So can the tights!

French young pair: Really like them, such energy.

Do hard: Mark Hanretty, just by finally getting to hear him talk on videos this morning. Love me a Scotsman??????? (What does he look like?)

So nervous for Misha today! And he’s skating quite early. Comfort me, please.

At least I’ll enjoy Loupolover and Semenenko’s Banditski Peterburg beforehand, to calm my nerves. You know, that’s why he was picked for worlds. He skates to Igor Kornelyuk! Go kid!

Don't worry, the judges have had 3 whole days to rank the men before they even skate, so skating order is not so important this time!

Today I'm rooting for da boss' nightmare becomes true! Jason for Top 3, Telenovela to bring himself in a good position and in the FP.
And than I'll root for Larry Loopolover as his name is as cool as a skaters name can be. Hope he gets his Olympic Spot here so we don't have to see him at Nebelhorn ?
