Indeed, the KSU is unbelievably bureaucratic, they don't even replace WD JGP spots and submit other substitutes. Last season So Youn was clearly not ready to compete during the summer competition but it was a sum of your domestic points that determined Olympic spots, it pushed back her recovery and she couldn't make it in the end. KSU really shoots themselves in the foot a lot.

They are learning, though. This season all the top junior ladies were split up between different events. And Seoyeong Wi was given a second event after her high finish at her first one. (I believe initially only the top three from the ranking competition were assigned to two). Don't think we can blame KSU for Dabin's withdrawing from GPs this season. Like Ashley, Gabby, Kaetlyn, Karen, and so many other ladies, we will have to give her some time to deal with the adjustment of having reached an Olympic dream and now reassessing what she will do this quadrennium. We've had no explanation so we don't know if she's struggling with the same injury issues as last season or if this is more of a career adjustment time. I hope she'll continue. It'll be tough with all the talented young ladies on her heels, but Dabin has a solid competitive head for competition.

It's very nice to see Cha looking healthy this season. Such a difference. Hope the Korean Fed has or will adjust its policies in the future for athletes facing injury as he did early last season.

No it was top 4 Ladies at the JGP Selection who got 2 spots, they did not change out entries for ladies this year. They only made an exception for Sihyeong, his placement was not supposed to warrant a JGP assignment but they gave him one anyway, however his boot problems persisted so he withdrew and they didn't sub in Jaeseok who should've earned 2. They have had years to learn.

The good thing is that they do ask the skaters what they would prefer (last year Yelim was struggling with growing so she asked for later JGPs and they gave it to her, You Young did too).

Congrats to Eunsoo Lim for winning the first senior GP medal since Yuna Kim at Rostelecom Cup! She should be very proud of how she skated with back to back GPs and earned a new FS PB.

According to this article she will be returning to California to train for a while and then in early December she is back to South Korea for the ranking competition (Dec 14-16) which decides 4CC spots.

You mean the first senior GP medal for S. Korean female since Yuna Kim. Cha won a couple of Sr GP medals earlier this season. (Lots of great news for Korea!)

Universiade announced the entry quota for figure skating. Unfortunately, there were too many applications for single woman, so they had to cut down the entries. Korea received only ONE ticket.

For the single women, 48 entries applied where only 36 tickets are available. Hence,

* 2 tickets for the host (Russia)
* 2 tickets for the medalist nations (Russia and Japan, so only Japan is allowed)
* 1 ticket for the rest of the country, with the ranking order from the last Universiade competion.
* 1 ticket for the rest of the world as a wild card.

Argentina could not get a ticket at all, so they are No. 1 in the waiting list.

There is a copy of FISU notice circulating among Korean fans, which shows the 48 entry applications by 35 countries.

Having already made a fair bit of history, South Korean teen figure skater Cha Jun-hwan will try to do more of the same in Canada this week.
Cha, 17, will be the lone South Korean representative at the International Skating Union Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Vancouver. The men's short program is scheduled for Friday, followed by the free skate on Saturday.

Cha is the first South Korean male skater to reach the Grand Prix Final, and the first from the country of any gender to qualify for this event since Kim Yu-na in 2009.

That link doesn't work for me but I dug around and found out this is not officially Nationals but a ranking competition taking place Dec 19-23, to determine 4CC and Winter Universiade teams. Nationals will be in January 2019.

SK has a ranking competition like this every season. This is one of the domestic competitions skaters need participate in to be on the National team next season.
