German Skating News - Part 3

Fed has no money left. Aliona first needs to get some major medals and some cash back :bribe:

They had enough money to send Bock, Dastich and Herceg this summer to Canada, but the real problem is that there is no decent coach for Bock at her home rink. Or at least she has tried and rejected them all by now. Considering her age she must be pretty close to finishing school so changing training location isn't an option right now.

As for Aliona ... I have no doubt she will be able to earn the money back quickly. the feds accountant is probably going to see how long it will take to make however much of the 30K they paid out of the 10% cut the fed gets from the prize money :P

i was just kidding....

i really do wonder though, what such short summer camps really achieve? i get the motivation part of course, but the rest..?

i would like to see more invest in great choreo. liebers improved a lot by that, vartmann has had great choreo the past few years. who paid pillay? someone does know?
german ladies choreo is way underwhelming this season. sorry. get some fitting decent programs.

No one going to mention S&M's super skate?! :D

Why was the twist marked down?

Do you mean them getting level 3? S/M haven't gotten a level 4 yet on their twist this season. They've been getting level 3 most of the time. This might be because they're either a) not doing difficult enough footwork into it or b) not getting a good enough split position. They're getting great GOE on the twist--just not that top Level designation. Hopefully they can get up to Level 4 next year--I'm sure they'll look at it.

Any news from Liebers , will he be able to show up for Worlds? If not, great opportunity for Streubel making his debut there.

The event information and entry lists for Deutschland Pokal are up. its like a second Novice and Junior Nationals held in March.

I hope all 4 novice pairs will really be able to compete. Right now I think Thomalla / Kunkel are the strongest with Jentsch / Schuster second best but I am really curious to see how the two new/newer pairs will do.

Thomalla / Kunkel - Berlin coached by Rico Rex and Romy Österreich ne Kerner
Jentsch / Schuster - Chemnitz, coached by Monika Scheibe
Fayt / Janzen - Berlin coached byRico Rex and Romy Österreich ne Kerner
Rot / Quattelbaum - Stuttgart, coached by Anuschka Gläser

Googe translate:
Berlin ( dpa ) - The five-time German figure skating champion Peter Liebers has to undergo an operation .

As his trainer Viola Striegler the German Press Agency confirmed a athroskopischer intervention must be carried out at the Olympic eights from Berlin on Tuesday because of a persistent hip injury .

" After a fall , a gap has formed in the acetabulum , which has not closed by rest and splash back " Striegler said. The 27 year old has subsequently sidelined six weeks, missed after the European Championship and the World Cup in late March in Boston .

This represents only Franz Streubel the German colors at the World Championships ( March 30-April 3 ) in the US . The launching of Oberstdorf runners had occupied at the Bavarian Open on Sunday in second place behind the Italian Ivan Righini .

Aaron van Cleave finally called it a career.:drama::wuzrobbed

Continuous visa problems for his new partner Tanya Domracheva prevented them from proper practice in Germany. Locating to Russia to train was to expensive for him.
Van Cleave will now move on in going to skate on a cruise ship.

Van Cleave got 5 medals at german nationals, the last one was golden. Euros best place was 5th 2012.

Thanks for the news about Peter. I'll try to remain hopeful for him.

Awww about Van Cleave. I always had a random soft spot for him. I will continue to use the phrase "Just Van Cleave it" for when a skater should just shave their head and get it over with, in is honor. :glamor:

Weinzierl? ugh! Schott should've been competing somewhere show an amazing competition and skate at Worlds.
She and her coach choose to prepare for next season... I worry a little about it. Huth tends to say let's start "preparing" and "improving" for next season and things did never really got better for anyone.

Savchenko, Massot want to create own identity

I'm glad that Aliona has found happiness. It's sad that she seems to reflect on her time of past victories and successes as not being a happy time in her life. Sometimes going through tough times can be preparation for facing and overcoming greater challenges. Maybe one day she will gain peace with what led her to where she is now.

Icenetwork: Aliona, it's very impressive to see how much more balanced you seem.

Savchenko: The truth is that now, life is good. I have a beautiful fiancé. I have a calm coach. He is like a saint! We have big support from the people around us. We are working together with one common goal. I can live and do what I dream of. That's quite a change! Before, it was skating only. I had a lot of success, but I was really sad in my life. It was too much, and it was too closed. You need people around you to take positive energy. It changes everything.

I changed my life, and I am very happy with this.

Apparently, Ingo was not a calm coach and he famously does not have a calm personality. Unfortunately, Ingo's past and his status as persona non grata among German fed obviously to a degree must have placed a pall over what was a very successful partnership between Aliona and Robin. I've read before that Robin had the calmer personality among the former S/S and S. In her TSL interview Aliona also seemed regretful and apologetic about having stayed in her relationship with Ingo and in her partnership with Robin as long as she did. But on the outside looking in, the team didn't appear to be broke aside from the outside efforts to break them up. It's really too bad that Aliona now seems to feel she should have left them both sooner. Perhaps it's partly because she feels she might have won an OGM had she made the break sooner? What a shame if that's her view now, because there was such a great chemistry between Aliona and Robin on the ice. With Ingo's collaboration, their creativity, impact and influence on the pairs discipline has been quite memorable and remarkable within the annals of figure skating history.

I remember how good Aliona and Robin were together, especially when they began their rise at 2007 Europeans. That was also at the height of the brouhaha over Ingo's Stasi-informant past. I was under the impression that Aliona, Robin and Ingo had all equally decided to stick together, to remain loyal to each other and to pursue their dreams in the face of opposition, financial constraints (and frankly some jealousy as well as bitterness directed toward Ingo for his past transgressions during the time of a divided Germany). It's an unfortunate set of circumstances, that Aliona, Robin and Ingo appeared to face with great courage and grit. Seemingly, the need to block out the hardships and concentrate solely on skating did rob some lightness and joy from their courageous unity and the innovative work they created together.

Hopefully, Aliona will one day be able to look back on her achievements with Robin and Ingo without sadness and regret. Perhaps she will be able to accept that it was a purposeful decision she made to remain together because there was something that truly worked in her collaboration with Robin and Ingo that was meaningful and worthy of the rewards and respect they received. Their OGM dreams were dashed twice not because they weren't a great team, but due to bad luck and to others being more politically favored, in addition to their own mistakes and the timing and location factors not benefiting them at the right time, right moment. Figure skating is about talent, hard work, determination and politics. It also tends to be a crapshoot.

Good luck to Aliona and Bruno! And best wishes to Aliona and her fiancee. Also, thanks for the memories to Aliona, Robin and Ingo!

It seemed to work for the flip this season for Schott; unfortunately the rest of jumps had to pay tribute for that.
I have some hope if she finally can get injury free over the summer.

She has the best overall package by far of the german girls.

Maybe Kostner around her gives Schott some pushing
(In gracefully popping :p )

I'm all for dumping Weinzierl and embracing the Bockster if she has age appropriate programs (and most importantly) costumes next season.

yieha, love your call: Bockster :encore:
I will adopt this!

I fear we need a task force for the costume issue :p
