In the midst of rehearsals ahead of her debut tour with Stars on Ice — which lands at Bell MTS Place on Wednesday night — Medvedeva confirmed a little-known fact.
For as long as she can remember, the 19-year-old Russian star has suffered from lepidopterophobia — the unrealistic fear of butterflies and moths.
"Everyone else is afraid of spiders and I’m afraid of butterflies. (If a butterfly comes near) I will start laughing and crying, both at the same time," the Olympic silver medallist revealed.
Ah, I got why she chose SAYURI and not Madame Butterfly. ;)

That’s what sports and athletes do. They take risks. They push themselves to test their limits. They are not ordinary people who choose to be safe.
This is true. But what is done and what should be done are often two different things.

She is the cutest! How can you not love her!

If your weight deviates by more than 100grams and your jumps aren't working, there is something wrong with the technique being taught. Reading the whole interview is disturbing. Everyone is disposable to Eteri and the ones who aren't winning are tossed out like garbage. These are children we're talking about!
Exactly. If your technique is good, you should still be able to jump even if you’re a few pounds heavier than usual. Something’s definitely not right there.

Well, you can't argue with success, I suppose, but the interview's description of some of the Eteri group's training methods is disturbing. Daily weigh-ins and limiting weight gain to 200 grams is a recipe for eating disorders. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some of her skaters are already bulimic in order to meet the daily requirements. This also seems to explain why the skaters might limit their water intake. What is the effect of this on girls so young? No one knows.
Lipnitskaya retired from anorexia and Medvedeva and Zagitova have revealed some very unhealthy eating habits. Eteri isn’t the only coach who uses these methods, but it still doesn’t make them right.

It's the Hunger Games. And it's happening in real life for Eteri's girls.
Sadly so. Now we just need a little Mockingjay to rise up and overthrow this system! But does this make Eteri President Snow or Alma Coin?

Be still my heart if Moskivina offers input into Stol/Nov. Are there any rumors of them securing his release from France? Surely the RuFed is working on something. Sochi cycle I was all about Volo/Trankov. Korea: Savchenko/Massot. I could devote all my pair energy to Stolbova and her new boy for the next three years.

Moskvina standing where she must!!!
Coach, champion, and now bodyguard to pretty young Boikova! I love Moskvina so much.

Stolbova/Novoselov also came to St Petersburg with Morozov and were seen at Moskvina’s rink
I’m so excited! Yasss!

If Moskvina helps them, I will literally forgive her for breaking my heart so many times. I haven’t heard any release news, but you and I can be the rowdy cheering section for the next three years.

And the point of doing pointe work for figure skating is......?
Your ankles can be strengthened through ballet without going on pointe. You can develop your posture and artistry without going on pointe. You can get all the benefits without going on pointe, which can definitely lead to serious injuries of not done well or if the dancer isn't yet ready.
I know it looks good for the photos and it can be fun, but I'm seriously worried.

There are speculations on the Russian forum about Liza Zhuk skating with the Czech pair skater Bidar. They have been seen skating together at a show in Novogorsk. Photos were posted on the forum.

For those who are interested in Russian pairs, Zhuk was a very promising junior pair lady but her ex-partner Britkov was not that great and often did not land the jumps. Her jumps were solid. There was about six years gap between them, so first they had to wait for her to become junior eligible and then about a year or two later he aged out, so they split up. Then Moser paired her with Miroshkin, who used to be also a very promising junior, but then he aged out and got injured during a medical. So he has not been competing properly since 2015, (he did have one competition in 2017 with a new partner who was 8 years younger than him, but their result was not that great and they skated mostly in shows). I am not quite sure what was the purpose of matching a promising skater Zhuk with a male partner who has been out of competitions for four years, but they are at the Russian national team (reserve), so I am guessing it might have been in order to arrange some money for Miroshkin. Maybe a bribe because Miroshkin did not go to court to sue the federation for destroying his career? The medical was compulsory and one doesn’t expect to get injured during the medical. Anyway, Miroshkin works with Lipnitskaya and Ilynikh at their skating school, so I don’t think he has the commitment to do competitive skating.

If Bidar did pair up with Zhuk, would the federation release her? They did not release Osipova to skate with Bidar a year ago.

This has nothing to do with the point of the story but I am curious how you could be injured in a medical? What do they do in a medical?

Hmm, this is interesting! I hope they can release him and they are successful.

Russia would need to release her rather than Czech Republic releasing him. I don’t think they would want to skate for Russia, considering that Russian pairs are getting quite crowded and Czechia doesn’t have anyone except of Bidar. (Duskova has not competed with her new partner and I am wondering whether this partnership will go anywhere.)

He had torn ligaments in his knee if I recall correctly, so my guess would be that there was twisting motion involved. But why would doctors twist skater’s legs, not sure. But the interview from Mozer a few years back it was clear that she was blaming the doctors/the federation rather than the skater for that injury, so whatever happened it wasn’t his fault.

Thanks so much for the answer. Torn ligaments are very serious. That is so sad,
