Qualification rule: The best 16 skaters after Short Program will advance to the next segment.

I liked the Czechs (despite disaster lift), they have potential. Well she at least definitely has potential! 😅 Good skating skills and a 3f throw already. :kickass: He did look relatively frightened throughout. 😅 I wouldn't say their overall speed and skating skills should have put them in 3rd but I guess the mistakes sealed it.

At least the arena host knows she doesn’t have to shout when she is holding a microphone.

I really liked Hannah Herrera as a U.S. singles skater (good spring in her jumps!) - she competed in one JGP (2022 in Riga, Latvia). She's fortunate to be transitioning to pairs with such a skilled partner!

Results after 2 of 5 groups:
1 Q Hannah HERRERA / Ivan KHOBTA UKR 56.95 31.97 24.98 6.39 5.96 6.43 0.00 #4

Group 3 has been warming up.

UKR clearly the best so far in terms of flow and speed. And nice 3twist!
Their 3tw was GORGEOUS!

I dozed through the first group & sat rather quietly, still in the process of waking up for the 2nd group.

Quattrochi/Lacasse seem a bit sloppy and have had several moments where they're reaching for each other. They'll make the FS, easily but I'm unimpressed.

Canadians with the most mature presentation so far but surprisingly easy elements. Didn't she make the JGPF before (although with another partner)?

Insane throw from the 2nd Chinese team! Too bad he singled his axel.

2nd ice resurfacing underway after 3 of 5 groups.

SP results so far:
1 Q Rui GUO / Yiwen ZHANG CHN 58.34 33.83 24.51 6.11 5.71 6.61 0.00 #9

The last group clearly has more speed overall than most of the other teams. And better skating skills and synchronization. Great 2axels from Flores/Wang. Too bad about the twist exit (right in front of me 😄).

Just caught up with the pairs sp (re video). I've decided to be "sensible" about just HOW early I'm going to get up and just HOW MANY of the competitors I'm going to watch at Junior Worlds.

That said ...... YAAAAY for Canada!! First and second places after the SP. Awesome! :encore: :cheer2:

And, I also thought the 2 Chinese pairs were great. Guo/Zhang are the better pair, imo; but, seriously, do young girls get much cuter than Yuxuan Chen?

Now, I'm off for a long walk on this BEAUTIFUL spring-like day here in Halifax and then I'll join you all for "live" for the men (in progress).

Kemp/Elizarov the most pair-like so far. Well trained and synchronized.

Minus points from me for ending early and not even trying to hide it.
I adore Kemp/Elizarov and I do admit to a bias as they at least got their start from my home town. I have felt though that they need to consider the performance from when they step on the ice through the K&C. Sometimes it has felt like they show their disappointment a little too obviously when not perfect and that just cements the mistake in the viewer's mind. It makes sense to leave as good an impression as you can.
