2024 GPF - Junior Women SP

I thought that the three Japanese girls are roughly the same level, but Shimada has better control or the elements. Her spins and jumps are just checked to perfection. And she wears green, so I guess that's something ?

Yeah, I did think it might be wicked, but it doesn't scream wicked. I feel like black with green would scream wicked more. Or half green and half pink. This could easily be Riverdance.
Eh, first time she took her starting position on the JGP, I wondered if she was skating to Wicked, so I thought the dress did the trick nicely, lol.

For those playing along with Bingo - here's what we have so far -

“Artistic” camerawork
could be skating to anything
cutouts
Emo/ Sad Girl Cover
Heart hands
“Korean” hair bling
lip-synching
Music from Movie
Music from Musical
Obvious Warhorse
Superstar Artist
Tights over/boot covers
whickety-whack

Mao ... just WOW!!! I loved everything about that. Her dress is gorgeous. Her expression of the music was wonderful. By far the best of the jr. women, imo, and we've had some other very good performances before her.

So, every woman had a clean skate. That's what you want to see. The gauntlet has been thrown down for the jr. men tomorrow. Don't let us down now, guys.

Shimada is brilliant and better than anything in seniors. The juniors in general are better than the seniors. I felt bad for Gladki being last with a clean skate, but there’s no shame in being last in this field.

I’d have had Nakai fourth after the error on the camel spin and the wonky double axel. I loved Yihan Wang, whose spins are the best I can remember from a Chinese skater.

Mark just said this soundtrack is everywhere right now. Does he not know the difference between the OBC and the movie??? Skandalous if true
The man is a jack-of-all-trades these days. Can we really expect him to know the difference? But, don't worry, I'm sure @tony will DM him to set him straight!

I mean he is technically correct. The soundtrack is everywhere. He never said she was skating to the movie soundtrack.

You know, with Worlds being in BAWHSTON and knowing the movie was coming out, you'd have thought more skaters would have gone with a "Wicked" program this season than just Mao down in juniors, lol.

Now I'm wondering how many "Wicked" programs he'll be approached about choreographing for next season.

I liked Kim on the stream: she brought some energy to the Debussy, unlike most of the Korean women who skate like they're taking a final exam and only looking to the next question.

I was wondering what her glide was like, but then Wada took to the ice and the difference on stream was huge.

Shimada is such a glorious skater.

I‘m in the arena, I thought she was fierce, and her facial expression did fit perfectly with the music…
Come on Wang, give this program nothing!

All three jumping passes just so solid, so controlled on the landing and no wavering of the edge or body at all. Really nice flying camel, too. Now she just needs to really learn how to sell this.

Actually, all of the spins were fabulous.

Mao Yanzheng has several action photos for each skater: https://www.mao.ph/post/2024-jgpf-womens-short-program
