Wada knew she had to go all out and she did but I'm wondering if some of those jump landings were clean. Best skating skills overall so far, imo. These junior women are certainly putting on a show.

Mao - stumbles out of the 3a; and down on the 4t - not going to be a brilliant day for her today.

ETA - of course, the next two jumping passes are clean as can be.

ETA - oh no! a fall on the 3lo late in the program...

Shimada

Flip out of 3a, down on quad. Very unconvinced she can keep those big elements all the way to Olympics after next. Smooth 3f-2a-2a combo, down on 3r, she has good composure and kept performing the program despite the mistakes

Despite the errors, that should be enough for Mao to win. Darn that 3axel ... maybe so many jr. women shouldn't be trying to do it right now, I don't know. Mao is a lovely combo of athleticism and delicate expression.

eta: Ah, so she IS named after Mao Asada. I wondered about that but then thought maybe Mao was just a common Japanese name.

Very surprising (low) PCS scores, even with the mistakes.

Late to the game, but I thought Shimada might drop to third in the free. Then I did some mental math on her base values, remembering she completed two triple-triples plus a 3F+2A+2A and revised that thought.

I’m glad it was close. She deserved a huge PCS lead in the short, which is brilliantly constructed. The free is less compelling. In the free, Wada and Nakai were closer. I would have marked them ahead on PCS, as many judges did.

The 4T was just as << on all attempts that I saw.

The medal ceremony is being tagged on the end of the Sr. Men SP on the ISU YouTube stream.

In lieu of flowers, they are getting small (seasonal) trees.

Ted's an idiot "absolutely clean on the triple toe loop for sure"

As we are shown a close up of a < jump, regardless of what the panel called it.
Kinda reminds me of U.S. nationals coverage where they had a fluff piece on flutzes and showed Sasha Cohen egregiously on the wrong edge as the example of a correct takeoff.

My eyes aren’t seeing what you’re saying.
