I'm so sad that online fans have caused Ilia to abandon his super-fun IG lives with appearances from Jacob (and others). I really, really want a post-GPF/JGPF IG live with those two!

From the X post about Lukas skate issue:
Update : his blades broke half way through practice, some people at the rink are putting new blades on it right now and hopefully the new blade won’t take too long to get used to in the 6 min warmup for him Let's keep our fingers crossed for him

Medal ceremony now at the end of the Jr FD stream (after the Jr Dance and Sr Women's medal ceremonies).

And whatever happened to Alexei? Can’t remember.
IIRC, he couldn’t make an Olympic run because he wasn’t yet a citizen. He retired in 2021 and went to university.

I think he had some cordial exchange with Duhamel recently, but I don’t recall on which medium.

According to Ted Barton, all Junior Grand Prix finalists go to the Olympics. You'll be seeing him soon I'm sure.

I absolutely fell in love with Nakata. His feet and knees make me swoon, and his mastery of the blade is remarkable given his age. Prayers that he makes the transition to Seniors, successfully. I could watch him do nothing but stroke around the ice and be transported,

Krasnozhon retired in 2021 to focus on attending a college honors program in Texas (see post above - IIRC, he wanted to be a lawyer). Pulkinen won the JGPF silver medal behind Alex K. that year.

I hope to have a chance to read through this thread later - haven't had time yet today.

I really wish Ted would stop calling New Zealand a "developing skating nation". Uhm, no, they've had, albeit sporadically, skaters at Worlds and even the Olympics for decades. A developing skating nation is one that's never managed even that and barely can qualify skaters to Euros/4CCs or Jr Worlds.

Is this a formal definition provided in some documentation somewhere?

I thought it was "developmental" nation in ISU terms. I'm not sure whether there's a formal definition, or if it's just which members the ISU decides to their development camps for skaters and coaches at any given time.

No idea. The ISU does have a Development Commission, but I'm not exactly sure what their exact aim is other than to grow and promote skating.

New Zealand is sort of like Luxembourg or Monaco, or maybe Iceland - they have skaters and rinks and aren't unfamiliar with the sport in the same way that a country like Peru or Thailand is. But maybe the ISU Development Commission aims to work with small feds from everywhere, regardless of how long they've had a Nat'l federation that is an ISU Member.

Okay, so it's just your personal opinion which you are stating as fact.
I just think the use of the word "developing" implies that there's no infrastructure or much knowledge to support the sport. Countries that have been hosting their own national championships for decades don't really fall into that category, even if the interest level in the sport or the population of the country is small enough that they don't produce many champions.

New Zealand's federation website shows they held their first National Championship in 1939 - that's 85 years.

Ted wasn't calling Slovakia "a developing skating nation" when discussing Lukas Vaclavik even though they haven't had much greater success internationally than New Zealand. Why is that?
