2024 GPF - Junior Women SP

Lovely skate by Wang. She's a natural jumper .... makes it look so easy. Spin positions were beautiful as well. Level 4 step sequence too. She's got it all.

Yuseong Kim
2axel might have been short
3z3t
I do not like her jump technique, it is unclean somehow, but judges give positive GOE
3f
hm, a bit of a generic Korean skate.
I miss Jia Shin

I have watched a lot of skating, I have gone back and watched almost every archive of skating from the 70s and 80s, before my time, too. I can rattle off program details like it's nothing from 30 years ago.

But the Korean women really confuse me time after time, because they all skate the exact same way with the same strengths and weaknesses, the same jump technique, the same extension of the arms and essentially the same choreography (aside from Chaeyeon Kim). I promise in 5 years I won't know the difference between any of them or remember their specific programs.

Yuseong is perfectly pleasant, but it's too early for Debussy. She's quite fluid but not super polished. I also have my suspicions about her technique. If she plans to have a puberty any time in the future, she's going to lose all her jumps.

Also, this music is not suitable for the arena - the lower notes are resonant with something and going to blow the hockey shields on some point. Which I won't object.

Kim

Solid combo [but with edge call] as well as her other jumps, looks a bit gangly—I want her to embrace her height and extend, nice musical engagement

Edge call for Kim but otherwise another really enjoyable skate. I don't follow the juniors throughout their GP season so this is the first time I'm seeing these skaters. And, I'm getting some really nice surprises.

+5 for the edgework out of the Axel. And +5 for the held landing on the toe loop.

This program isn't going to do it for me, but the Japanese ladies continue to make me happy for the sport.

Yup, @tony and @skatfan are right - Yuseong's lovely, but she's just another bot in the long list of Korean women - completely undistinctive. It doesn't help that she has an identical twin sister who also lacks a distinctive skating style.

Kaoruko's giving us whickety-whack - also, her dress does NOT go with the movie at all.

Karuka Wada
Oh wonderful start with speed and little toe-jumps and so much flow into 2ax
good speed into 3z3t
3f
best flow and speed so far
botches the twizzle section of the footwork a bit so only level 3

Wada

In her spumoni dress, soft knees, bent knee pick in 3z and 3f, leagues ahead of everyone else thus far in glide and flow

Should move into first

someone mentioned defying gravity earlier so i assumed this dress would be the wicked program lol
Oh, no, no. Trust me, you'll know the Wicked program costume when you see it. And not just by process of elimination, lol.

Don't they basically "have to" because of the junior rules?
They have to do the flip, either a double or triple. But if they are flutzing, they have the option to do the loop of course. But I think the mindset for so many coaching teams is 'more difficult means better GOE and/or PCS", regardless of the potential (yet rare) 'e' call.
