2018 TV Emmy nominations announced

So another win for Peter Dinklage, his third.

He is fabulous in Game of Thrones, but I really thought Joseph Fiennes deserved it for Handmaid's Tale. As I haven't seen any of the other nominees in this category, I don't know whether they were equally deserving.

I'm really glad that Regina King won for Seven Seconds. She was wonderful in that show--which was very interesting, despite some flaws, and didn't get the attention it deserved, IMO. I'm glad she was recognized.

Also glad that Matthew Rhys won for The Americans. He has always been so brilliant in that role. Again, very well-deserved.

Not too sure about Claire Foy winning for The Crown. I watched the second season of that show and, although she was good in it (better than season 1), I would have gone with Keri Russell for The Americans, of the shows I watched in that category. (I haven't watched season 2 of The Handmaid's Tale.)

Also not too sure about Game of Thrones winning best show. While there are certain elements of GOT that are still quite interesting, on the whole the show now is not as good as it was in its early years. Again, I probably would've gone with The Americans here.

I've read that a lot of GoT fans are actually surprised it won. I don't watch GoT, but IMO The Americans absolutely should have won. This last season was absolutely brilliant.
It's also a travesty that Keri Russell never won for her work on that show. IMO this last season was her best, but she has been amazing throughout the entire run. If I had to pick between her and Matthew Rhys to win an award, I'd pick Matthew, who was a bit stronger throughout the series as a whole, and the parking garage scene the used in his clip was just absolutely heartbreaking to watch (the series finale as a whole, actually...)

Oops! Any nominations for Best Use Of An Expletive Deletive during an acceptance speech? https://www.thewrap.com/emmys-bleeped-thandie-newton-acceptance-speech//

You know, as much as I hear people use the 'f-word' on a daily basis (and, well ... so do I. not out loud around work people but man does it fly at home when I am mad!), are we really so sensitive that it still has to be bleeped out? Oh wait ... I forgot about the children!!!

Wow was that show boring!!!! At 9p I switched over to Better Call Saul and recorded the rest of the Emmy's, then came back and fast forward thru most of it. I just watched them announce the winner, none of which I knew except Darren Criss (and that was only because of Glee), and the wedding thing. The SNL guys were not as funny as I was hoping they would be.

I love GoT; it’s probably my favorite show of all time...but this season has two mind blowing episodes: “The Spoils of War” and the season finale; the rest was mediocre. If they submitted either of those episodes, I can see why they won but the season as a whole was far from the best.

I was among those who were surprised, but only because I thought GoT had won a bunch of times before.

I haven't seen The Americans, so have no opinion on it.

IIRC there are only six GoT episodes this next season. This is making me sort of lose interest. Seems they are just dragging it out for the sake of dragging it out.

And SFAIK, because George R.R Martin is involved in the series, he's not writing any more books. He'll probably die before he completes the series. :(

I highly recommend The Americans. If you don't know the premise, it takes place in the 80s, and revolves around 2 KGB agents working undercover, pretending to be Americans. It's way better than the explanation makes it sound. And it does things so well. There was one episode (I think the fifth season premiere?) that had about 10-15 minutes of the characters literally just digging a hole, but it's done so well (and suspenseful) that you're completely captivated.

IIRC this was GoT's third time winning. It's kind of like Modern Family winning over and over again. Maybe it's because it was newly back after not being eligible last year? I dunno. In any case, I'm pretty sure the episode submitted for The Americans was the series finale (which was the episode that won for drama writing, and from which Matthew Rhys' clip was shown), so it's hard to believe it was beaten.

On my twitter, it had The Americans trending this morning, and as a caption underneath it said something like 'many people think The Americans was robbed at the Emmys'.

I just hope the show doesn't do a spin-off, focusing on the kids (though it would probably be a really good story, with how they left things...)

It'll be interesting to see the comedy categories when Veep returns (season 7 is scheduled for 2019). Julia Louis-Dreyfus won 6 consecutive Emmys for lead actress for her role (she has been nominated and won every single year it's been on the air), and won best comedy series 3 years in a row. Rachel Brosnahan has won every single award she's been nominated for with Marvelous Mrs. Maisel this year (though the show wasn't nominated for any SAG awards).
