Royalty Thread #16: the best of times, the worst of times

It wouldn’t be surprising if she is telling the truth: she wrote the email because he had threatened her. Not many people would be able to match the power of Epstein’s “friends” list. Men like Dershowitz, for example.

Not surprising as she's still so close to Andrew. But still, gross.

I think it's a little of both. But I really believe the latter happened regardless of her feelings on pedophilia* when people she likes do it.

*technically it's ephebophilia

I don't think we ever knew their nanny's name, which was probably a good sign. So perhaps they had some stability from her and each other.

The princesses were very close to their grandmother. I believe the Queen had a special relationship with Zara, Eugenie, Beatrice, Lady Louise and also Margaret's family Lady Sarah Chatto and her daughter Lady Margareta Armstrong-Jones.

If anyone has AppleTV Eugene Levy has a show on it called "The Reluctant Traveler". It's a fun little travel show. The newest episode has him visiting Windsor Castle and his guide is Prince William. It was a really nice episode for anyone interested.

I agree and Prince William is quite candid in it. He leaves little doubt that even though he is the heir apparent to become king his number one priority is his family and also he is game for change and a more modern monarchy.

I didn’t know he was back with another season, so thanks! I’ll re-up in November probably and catch up on everything. That is a great show!

I got a free month offer from Apple and so resubscribed and watched this episode last night. I thought it was only just okay. I know a lot of the things he gets to do on this series are very expensive or exclusive, but this was way beyond that, and struck me as a planned episode to give William a chance to do some damage control. Not that I think he wasn’t being candid, I think he was. But the whole point of that episode seemed to me to be, look, here’s William, listen to what he has to say.

Actually that wasn't the original plan at all according to Levy. There was a lot that was filmed around London etc that ended up not being used, Windsor Castle was just meant to be one small segment.
He didn't know what to expect and it was just to be one small segment in his London episode getting a tour of the castle from William. In interviews Levy says that because certain topics came up that were significant and of interest to many (in particular hints of changes to the monarchy when his time came) that during editing it became the episode that we saw.

Of course William was in control of what he shared but I think it's a credit to Levy that the time the two spent together William decided he was the one he would talk to. I don't think Levy is anyone's puppet or decided ahead of time to create an episode for "damage control", he just struck gold and got the interview that has apparently made a lot of UK royal reporters salty.

I was curious if there was a prior relationship, but sounds like they never even met before, and for the most part, William's participation - and the extent of it - was unplanned. I'm guessing that William decided himself to say hello while the filming was happening, and ended up enjoying the conversation with an actor he remembered from some of his favourite movies, and maybe they bonded as family men? Plus Eugene is obviously not a journalist, so likely felt a lot safer. From everything I've ever heard about him, Eugene is an all-round nice guy, nothing threatening about him.

Here's a bit more background on how it went down, with quotes from Eugene.

I'm glad to hear that.

I thought it was more that William seized on an opportunity, or what he saw as one perhaps. The article linked above said Levy was curious why William "picked this show." I didn't think that Levy decided to create the episode. I think for some reason William decided to pick the show. I can't imagine he did this without thoughtfully considering it.

Thanks for that. I do think it's bizarre that Levy said he didn't know ahead of time William would be meeting him at Windsor Castle, and literally found out as they were filming. That part looked staged to me, but YMMV.

I didn't hate the episode, I enjoyed hearing William talk and seeing the 2 of them interact. But it was very different from the usual episodes.

Damage control for what?

Wasn’t there all that fuss and they said and they did when Harry and Megan withdrew from their activities? I don’t pay all that much attention to be honest.
The BRF have remained almost nearly silent on the Sussex activities, apart from William vehemently denying there are any racists in the family right after that horrid Oprah interview way back in March 2021.

Lately the British press, both tabloid & mainstream, have been on a bit of a quest to tear down the Wales' - seems obvious it was a PR effort cooked up by the Sussexes new British communications team and it's backfiring spectacularly for many reasons.

I'd put my money on it being Charles & Camilla's team.

No one is allowed to outshine the monarch (and all that garbage) and Will, Kate and family can easily outshine Charles & Camilla.
