Knierim/Frazier - the FS is does build nicely with a clean skate, it'll be a great Nationals moment like Boss said. Good competition for them, even though I'm sure they wanted to medal.

Rewatching this on NBC last night and I guess she put her foot down on both throws... had she not they would have crushed technical score.

? Not that I am proposing her immediate ejection from #TTW, but Amber Glenn's performance at Skate America did make me wonder about whether she still belongs on the Team. Her technical content was cautious and conservative, not reflective of the splat-or-go-home ethos we expect.

Oh dear. She was so far down I didn't even notice that she was in this event when I checked the scores.
If she doesn't make Nationals, she'll be off the Russian team and that means no funding. :( She needs a foreign phone call ASAP.

OTOH, I saw it as Glenn building her BOW for these criteria:

2) Skater needs to have the ability to absolutely rock one day and splat the day after. Even better: rock and splat during one program
4) Skater needs more splat/messy performances than great ones

Occasionally, hitting everything in competition seems to be an important part of the TTW criteria. ;)

Agreed, one or two smooth trips cannot erase years and years of repeated unmitigated disasters!

About SA, men:

Vincent was fab! Sooo happy for him, he just killed it and now there's a real men's race going on, I'm so excited for OG!

I love Nathan, but he seemed really disconnected from his music, none of his programs was special to me, and from him I demand the highest standard.
Also:
  • Mozart wrote more piano concerts than no.23. (23, right? Any bells ringing?) In total, there's 27. And there's piano sonatas, rondos etc etc. It is possible to find another slow piece.... (calling more skaters than Nathan on this one)
  • Nathan must be careful not to become a one trick pony. His long programs are all build the same. Slow, intense music, skating round, jumping quads, some choreo, steps, and then it all shifts into crazy hip hop choreo seq to end. He does it well, but it doesn't make the same impact the third year around....

Let down of the weekend:
Ma's hair-o-graphy was not hair-o-graphy. It was only his ponytail falling out. DISSAPOINTED!!!

(((Kevin))) Why was he posting on IG that he was ok? Clearly, he was not ok when he withdrew. It's not even trainwrecky, just sad.

I have hopes for Shoma, if he stays in Japan. The programs I quite like, bad ass to do the quad flip so late in the FS.

About SA, ladies:

PCS is so broken, and me might as well go back to 6.0, as they are all judged on rep and name and nation, nothing about the skating. Trusova's quad fiest LP is a killer, because of the athletic skills, but here she watered it down and it was nothing special. Her SP was mediocre, the forward bend landings are :scream: I could go on and on....

Korean lutzes and combos WOW give them all the points!

Kurakova skates so small, there's something missing.

Satoko was equisite, her PSC should be miles above everyone. Doesn't we always write that sentence? :(

I didn't love my girl Kaori's programs for now, Piano is still my favourite.

Amber did so well, hope it boosts her confidence for the coming comps. The rainbow flags were really touching, you saw it meant a lot to her.

Starr Andrews - She has given up on the harder content, or? In Norway, we have a cathegory for skaters in competition called Basic. It's for seniors, juniors, who can't get the triples, who doesn't want to train 40 hours a week to make the national team, but still enjoys skating and competing. It's great and helps keep more skaters in the sports, instead of retiring. If Basic was an option at SA, Starr would skate there.

Do hard: Derrick Delmore :D

About SA, pairs:

First: B/K, what's up? Nothing works for them, not the programs, not the flow, not the elements. Alexandra is smiling through Swan Lake, smiling through Malaguena. So sad. Can they turn it around?

Then:
OMG I LOVE MY JAPANESE PAIR EVEN MORE THAN EVER THEY WERE MY FAVOURITES SINCE LAST SEASON AND NOW THEY ARE REAL THREATS AND BEAT RUSSIAN PAIR AND HE'S SUCH A JOY I CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF HIM AND SHE'S SUCH A TROOPER BEING THROWN INTO THE BOARDS JUST CONTINUING BLEEDING AND JUST WAIT TIL OG JUST YOU WAIT!!!!

Nugu's free skate was sad. Doubles galore and she was rubbing her back as she exited the ice. My hopes for a place at Nationals just evaporated. :( TES 48.45 with no falls. :(

While I agree the PCS judging is a mess, Trusova did have the 4th PCS of the night. She was scored down. The problem is the small scale of PCS which has almost zero effect on the overall result. The most you can be dropped is a point or two on PCS which is nothing when you have quad jumps to overcome that defficit. Same for the guys.

I have a question, maybe it’s been answered.... I try to follow as best as I can but I noticed that when Trusova lands jumps her waist is bent forward and her chest is pointing towards the ground, why would she get positive grades of executions for landing bent like that? I don’t know, maybe this is not considered GOE? Or skating skills…

My understanding is that PCS will make the difference between two skaters with equal or very nearly equal TES, but was never going to offset a significant TES difference. And a large BV gives a skater a huge advantage.

Because she trains with Tutberidze and does quadruple jumps. You really should read the ISU guidelines on Grades of Execution sometime. ;)
