FSU Watch Party Saturday #3: 1999 Worlds Ladies LP [2:30pm CDT/8:30pm CET]

And hate all you want, but Gusmeroli makes a case to beat Malinina in the long here IMO. A much more complete program in just about every way, and they landed the same amount of tripes even if Vanessa's weren't as clean.

I agree. I think the main problem was the overall impression of the program was too messy and rushed here for the judges to really go with it.

That 3toe at the last second, only Baiul threw a jump in like that with the 2axel/2toe that ended giving her the gold at Lillehammer 5 years earlier

Malinina also had the crazy rise in the standings that season, finishing 5th in her first GP, winning the second GP (NHK) in a weak field, just barely making the final and then winning that in a poorly-skated event (Maria was awful and still got 2nd). They were ready to give Tatiana a World medal, and she very nearly won silver here, losing it by one judge.

But that still doesn't mean her presentation deserved to go from the 5.0's to 5.7's ;)

Remember the random girl from Monaco (I think) that had a complete copy of Gusmeroli's jewel thief program a few years back?

Vanessa was either part of her coaching team or maybe even choreographed the program. I forget, but there was a connection.

Merovee Ephrem (spelling...) I think she got it from Vanessa, being allowed to use it.

She skids a little on the toe pick in her flips and lutzes, same technique as Lautowa.

Soldatova wasn't bad, but that choreography with the jumps all thrown together in the corner.. she did in the following season too. Still would've put Gusmeroli and Malinina ahead of her.

If you can find her 2002 Worlds free skate, it's crazy how far she declined so quickly.

Here you have. From Belarus Julia Soldatova
