To recap, they won Worlds in 2008, then won the 2008/09 Grand Prix Final, then had to leave the ice due to injury and pregnancy right up until the Olympics.

Granted that they made a habit of just missing major podiums, but they seriously could have been on the Olympic podium if they hadn't basically taken a full season off.

Yes, and I'm pretty sure they knew it, which is understandable.

I still love their Frida program at their Carnival in Venice with the iconic gloves. I would have literally, seriously been seething with rage when they lost to the Ukrainians if I had been following skating at the time.

I was glad they went back to it for Worlds, at least. I had never seen it before and it was a highlight of the event for me.
