What was it like when there was all the competition between Plushenko and Yagudin? Was it like this? Or was the tone of it different as they were both young men? (Because I think the tiny little girls power trip aspect of ladies skating attracts a different type of character who might not be as interested in the sports of independent grown men). I’m kind of convinced that adults who love Eteri and her skaters just love the idea of disciplining children more than anything about the sport or the athletes.

Maybe we just like seeing skaters actually skate and push the technical aspects of the sport I kind of resent your comment which is totally without merit or evidence. Perhaps it's statements like this that actually create the social media issues.

Moreover, I guess you missed the Kwan/Lipinski or Asada/Kim wars or even the nastiness exhibited toward Sotnikova for having the audacity to beat Kim at the Olympics.

It seems to me like there are way more crazy stans who follow ladies' skating. I suppose there are always outliers, but the really deranged lunatic fringe only seems to come out when it involves the top ladies. I always imagined that most of those people were at least very young and would hopefully grow out of it, but here we have someone who has to be old enough to be the grandmother of the skaters she is so obsessed with. Sad really...but I wish someone in her life would do an intervention, if not the mods here. Page after page of the same psycho ramblings. It's disturbing.

The reference about "Russians burying Aljona" was not used in the Russian version, but that doesn't mean that it was never said.

After all this interview was published on the Federation's website. ;-) I decided to use this comment in the English version.
Ok. got it. the interviews were not identical. thanks for clarifying.

So who's next for Shibnev?
Loboda actually thanked him for the partnership on the that message, he is one of the "partners" listed.
Shibnev is seen on various fotos coaching with various groups (and he travels a lot to various foreign places).

The issues about "Eteri's methods" are absolutely a created by media and some fans of skaters (for reason mentioned many times). Eteri by far is "lesser of many coaching evils". However coaches like Mishin (and his handling of Lozko and Nugumanova), Buianova (and her stories), and a recent interview with Davydov are just few of examples of “harsh” and there are more. Eteri is the most successful one, and she is getting the most "negativity".

This whole thread is evidence it’s like stepping into a parallel universe sometimes. I often feel quite troubled after I click into here.
I just translated an interview with Davydov and his assistant coach. Take time to read about his methods and approach to training. Eteri’s methods and approaches are quite different in many aspects.

I still haven't forgotten the nastiness exhibited toward Alexei Urmanov for having the audacity to win at the 1994 Olympics!
That was bad... :D... but back in these days was no internet or twitters. "Just in print" and "comments on TV" did not spread as fast and did not give an option for immediate "fan reactions". And yet "Urmanov's situation" went away fairly quickly. Some issues do not..

This upcoming season is going to be insane. There's Zagitova, Medvedeva, Samudorova and Tuktamysheva, plus Trusova, Scherberkova and Kostornaia. Not enough even if they split the World Team from the Euro Team.

This is where it's at :)

... and there is also Konstantinova, Sotskova, and few others who believe they can make the team and working on the programmes.
