One of the reasons given for the Shpilband/Zoueva split is that he wanted to do developmental work.

Some coaches are more interested in bringing up skaters through the ranks and are less interested in small incremental growth and maintenance.

Mozer always claimed to be more manager/organizer than coach for V/T. They were also a one of a kind pairing, and had a lot of growth together in a short period.

That is also what I heard about Shiplband. He like working with the young teams as well making sure their technique was perfect from day 1. Zoueva did not like this. But having the rink fire him without notice was a big slap in the face and it was Novi who approached him after and asked him to come to Novi to teach. Tessa and Scott came back from their small vacation and he was gone. Unreal.

Did anyone watch the Tutberidze’s show? The quads at the end were seriously impressive!
I saw it, liked it. Masaru and Tina are my favorite skaters.. :inavoid:
Tina with Trusova were not filmed up close, but here is a fun one..

Masaru "danced" with Daniil.. :D

Elena Ilinykh seems to be making her relationship with Polunin "official". Their foto and a post "Nothing is more important". https://twitter.com/Shindlerlist/status/1119685019428163585

Trusova popped one, got mad, and followed up with a 4-3-3-3-3.
She popped several. I was impressed how everyone did one and then they considered their job done, whereas Trusova did one, and then she stayed there longer than the others, to show more than them. And she did the huge combination. Impressive. I think if she popped it again, she just wouldn’t leave until it worked. Anyone else might feel self-conscious being the last one there, but she kept going.

Was it the giant Putin tattoo on his chest that won her over? Or the daily Instagram meltdowns? Yuck... (and I used to love him, but he's a total mess :() At least he seems to have a new handler now who made him delete all the rubbish he posted over the past few months...and hopefully got his chemicals back in balance.

There are a lot of beautiful dancers out there without that tragic tattoo and lunatic ranting and raving. That's not a sign of a mentally healthy person. I don't think you can get over mental illness just by "having an epiphany" or falling in love. His career was falling apart and he was losing work because of the crap he was posting. And that's just the most recent go-round with his myriad issues.

Elena is a bohemian... Bohemians follow strange leads.. like Hollywood stars who support Venezuela dictators.. :D

With V/T and S/K it seem both Maxim and Xenia had a strong will, drive and self vision that helped move along the natural talent the teams were. And while Tatiana and Fedor weren't as flashy they were equally secure and confident. It made Mozer's job so much more easy that she almost wasn't head coach anymore (someone with the main vision who made decisions on all aspects and took total charge) but more like a team player who helped guide and advise.

No other team she has coached has any of that, they all need more from her. The training atmosphere was totally different, more reliant on her, and she didn't have the creativity or exact vision to make it happen all on her own. That's why she didn't know how to take T/M to the next level beyond their natural talent and had Z/E fake sword fighting (Xenia would have put a stop to that!)

I agree 100% with this! Mozer makes a good manager and mama bear, but if the team doesn’t have a vision for themselves, then she can’t help them.

I think Vasiliev is a more possible scenario, but Oleg PLEASE DON'T TRY TO DATE EVGENIA!!!

Clearly you’re trying to give me a heart attack! I already have enough to worry about with Stolbova and Nikolai Morozov. Evgenia, please don’t follow suit.

I’m starting to think Elena Ilinykh doesn’t have the best taste in men...

I knew he was a controversial dancer but didn’t know why, so I googled his name and let me just say YIKES. He’s a brilliant dancer, but he’s also a homophobic, sexist, and body-shaming piece of trash. If they are truly together, Elena is with a very dangerous, deranged man. My heart goes out to her and I hope she gets out of there fast.

:D Given he had an "anti-Putin" tattoo in a form of a "Joker with Putin features" one year and few years later a "pro-Putin" tattoo, and all other "crazy message" tattoos on his body, anyone who has witnessed "bohemian progressives at their worst and best", are used to the extremes. The worst "diversity" is his tattoo selection is "power to Ukraine" symbol for an organization that is anti-semitic, and "power to Russia" that is anti-Ukraine... Look at it this way, when one snorts in one evening 3X eightball instead of a teener, one looses one's mind eventually. He is nuts. Elena likes "nuts"....

Which is fine, as long as she knows "they are nuts" and only a part of her adventure.....

:D

... and can you tell me how is she different than some dumb ass California girl from a family of a wealthy "LA Valley accountant to the hollyshit stars" that is brained washed by local teachers, who decides to be au contraire to her family and dates a guy with Che Givara tattoo, or a Fidel Castro t-shirt..... who are known totalitarians and murderers...

...if it is good for the goose it is good for the gander...:saint:

Yeah, I think there is probably something to that. V/T and S/K weren't kids anymore and they also had a very strong self-motivation and vision for their own careers. If you have pairs like that, doing management and organization for them is probably most needed and they can deal with a "hands-off" coaching situation.

T/M have great basics, but IMO not a lot of charisma. Beyond that, they also don't seem to really know where they want to go as skaters/performers. That's where a strong coaching and choreography team is needed to help them on the way. Clearly they themselves are unsure and/or don't have the best instincts when it comes to chosing music/programs/packaging that suits them.

Exactly. I think they just need a more inspired coach to help push them artistically. This year’s programs were good, so let’s hope it continues.

I’d love for them to go to Zimmerman. What he did for J/C was spectacular in terms of finding their style. I can’t imagine the Russian Fed would permit it, though.

They would, and have done so in the past with non-russian coaches teaching russians. The issue is funding, and the level of funding based on past results, and prospects in the future, and how much money the pair can generate on their own to cover additional expenses.

I have this mental image of the neighborhood dogs getting together in the evenings, and no one ever being able to top Masaru's stories. "So today I danced a duet on ice in a red dress . . ."
:D some can brag they played hockey...
