Hawayek/ Baker Cheer Thread

Thank you for the info, laviemn. Hopefully they will be okay until the GPs.

Dave Lease said they've resumed training and are doing run-throughs or at least partial run-throughs of their programs, so it seems like it's not severe enough to keep them off the GP, thank goodness.

I know it's Dave Lease and all the baggage he carries, but he's proven to be accurate with this kind of straightforward info.

"Training in Montreal has been amazing thus far," Hawayek said. "We are so excited with the development we already feel happening. The camp has such an incredibly positive energy, which is easy to feed off of. It has been easy to adjust and feel at home in a new environment.
"The biggest change we've had to get use to is the coaching. The style is new and unique for us and we're excited to how it is currently pushing us." <snip> ...
"We are thrilled to be going back to NHK for a third time and it will be our fifth visit to Japan as a team," Baker said. "We love the country, the people and the events they run. France is a new one for us; it is the only one of the Grand Prix circuit we haven't competed in and we can't wait to experience France and that event for the first time."

I’m so pleased for them! This has been a long time coming and to pull this out after the concussion and lacking competition readiness is impressive.

I predicted them second as well. But I am much happier to see them win. What a great start to their season! They are going to have some tough competition in France but hopefully they can do enough to make the final.

They have broken through---I loved the FD last year and wondered if they would ever get their chance. This is the year. Good for them.

Does anyone have a link to their free dance? The two I found (Jackie Wong, YouTube) are blocked in the US.

Unfortunately, the videos of their FD performance are blocked also here in Latvia and in many other countries too, I imagine. They are blocked because of copyrights, and, if that happens, it's usually in more than one country.

Yay for Kaitlin and Jean-Luc. I predicted them for second, but I'm super pleased they won. Now it gets harder, they have a chance to make the GPF and definitively prove they belong with the top teams in the world.

NHK was such a great competition for them. I'm happy for Jean Luc & Kaitlin how well they were able to compete! Despite their early season injury challenges, it's so obvious how hard they have been working over the summer in Montreal. They look very sharp and smooth. I especially detect a new-found maturity and confidence in Kaitlin. She has seemed in the past to be sometimes hesitant and questioning herself. So it was lovely to see her fairly blooming and fearless in her attack. Jean-Luc is magical, as always. He seems somewhat thinner than usual, but maybe that's due to some of the injury challenges he's faced over the off-season.

Indeed, H/B's programs are lovely to watch and these programs seem special for them and to them! The Montreal camp has a knack for bringing out and enhancing the best qualities of their ice dancers.

On paper, H/B's next GP seems challenging in terms of the depth of talent they will be competing against, which will include established veterans, Pap/Ciz, and Gilles/Poirier, in addition to the improved Sin/Kats (who have thus far received huge props from the judges), et al. I hope that H/B can hold on for 4th at least, and at best maybe challenge for third in France.

It is amazing they made the GPF. Who would have ever expected it. Does anyone know if Chock & Bates are expected to be at Nationals? It will be interesting to see if H&B can challenge them for the 2nd spot there.

Huge congrats to Kaitlin and Jean-Luc on making the GPF. I'm so excited for them to have this experience and hope they make the most of it.
Also the additional prize money from GPF is going to help them with the training costs in Montreal (ca. $80 000 per year, according to their GoFundMe) esp. considering they can't earn money by working in Canada like they did in USA. Good for them!
