She was not part of the physical attack. She was only guilty of not turning Jeff in (the hindering charge). She did not need to take Nancy out to win- she was the better skater.

Yes, but is it winningest to be the better skater or to be the USFSA darling aka “The anointed One”? Tonya obviously didn’t care. She dealt with it for years with Kristi and Trenary and refused to fit the mold. Gillooly on the other hand... He cared. He didn’t want his little cash cow getting slaughtered.

Hmmm this now makes me give back whatever sympathy I may have had for TH that I have gained for her since December.

Mirai is a Nation Champion and has been in the senior scene for 10 friggin years... "I dont know who she is?" LMAO, just because now someone else has done the 3 axel TH plays this crap?

More lies I guess. Im sure she knows who Ash Wagner is. Im sure she knows who Gracie Gold is. I dont think there is any coming back when someone has drank that much kool-aid. A shame. I thought there was some decency coming back.

I wouldn't bet on it. Not all former skaters continue to follow skating after they leave the sport.

E.g., I met a former national competitor in 1998 who was surprised to learn that school figures were no longer a thing.

That disconnect might be even more true of one who was definitively kicked out.

One big difference here: the idea that the first American woman to do the triple axel didn't know about the first one who did it at the Olympics doesn't make a lick of sense. Even if TH didn't watch the games, I'm sure friends, reporters, the internet, DWTS people mentioned this to her. I can't see how she could possibly be in the dark. IMO, she was just acting ignorant to throw shade. After all, SHE did it first and is a TWO-TIME US champion, ya know. Mirai only won ONCE!!! :p:drama:

Please, it’s one thing for someone like terry Kubricka for example to be busy with their after skating life and work to not be on top of the details. It’s another for a woman famous for the 3x to be out of her fox hole promoting a movie, doing press and promoting that she’s skating again right during the time of the Olys to have completely missed the woman splashed all over the news for being the first us lady to land the 3x at the Olys. It just doesn’t pass the smell test.
 
I love Tonya's shade (or truth that comes across as shade, and I don't care whether or not it's true). I hope she gets tons of publicity and becomes a gay icon in the batshit/shady bitch tradition a la Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce or Courtney Love. I want MTV VMA flashback realness: Michelle Kwan being interviewed on live TV by Johnny and Tara and Tonya throws a designer shoe (or Avanta boot) like Courtney Love did to Madonna and yells some incoherent profanity.

What does Tonya have to gain by trying to be nice or sweet? It's not her role in this narrative. Would the staunch anti-Tonya posters on FSU fall for her if she turned into a repentant sweetheart? (I think we could all answer that one.) It's not like some bigwig at NBC is reading this and thinking, "OMG people on some website really don't like that we've cast Tonya. Well shit. Let's get her off the cast now or there will be multiple people who threaten to not watch boycott the show!!!" (And I'm not accusing of anyone actually thinking that, although the word "boycott" has perhaps been used somewhat loosely on FSU and not just here.)

I never threatened to watch in the first place because I'd rather be crying in a bathroom forced to listen to Jim Peterson's iTunes than watch any competitive dancing TV show (even the one that Elizabeth Berkley hosted, and I've seen Showgirls at least ten times). I'm just enjoying the intensity! We need threads like this during the off season.

After looking at the Male Pros lineup (Sasha, Gleb, Alan, Artem, Keo) ... let's face it, clearly of this group Sasha is arguably the most popular/has the biggest Fan Base, and the Pro Star fan base is sometimes the basis for the Stars votes. I know that in the early rounds, I usually end up voting my favorite Pros and I'd guess a lot of other people do too. I wouldn't be surprised if she demanded the most popular Pro (of those who were willing to do this season) as well. :blah: Sorry Sasha. You usually get my votes. Not this time.

If Tonya's presence on the show is a 'nightmare', that's too bad, isn't it? The show didn't have to give her an invite. They could have refused to meet her fee demands.

If the producers want the ratings then tough, they'll just to deal with Tonya's difficult and demanding personality.
 
Tonya could cure cancer, eliminate world poverty, find homes for all the shelter animals, clean up all the plastic in the oceans, and some people still wouldn’t believe she could ever become a better person. She’s damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t so why shouldn’t she cash in while she can? She probably has no fcuks left to give about what anyone thinks about her anyways.

I think she's tried to live well and be a good person. She could have turned to drugs and drink when her skating career ended - many would have, especially given that the ending would have be traumatic, regardless of whether or not, or how much, she was complicit in. Or/and she could have just given up on life and lived on government monies.

But she didn't. She built a career for herself as a landscaper that she enjoys, got married, and had a child. I thought it spoke volumes when the line 'Tonya wants everyone to know that she is a good mother' (I paraphrase) came up on the screen at the end of 'I, Tonya'.

In looking to her future after skating, she had no idea that fame and fortune would come her way some 20 years down the road. I think she did the best that she could with her life.

But I don't think she quietly sat back and adjusted to her new life. Remember e.g. her singing career, her boxing career, and the mysterious publicity-worthy incidents that seemed to happen to her every few years right around US Nationals. Plus she had at least one other failed marriage before her current husband.

I think she really only settled into a non-public life once it was pretty apparent that she couldn't build a career in the public eye doing things other than skating.
 
You should not believe a single word that comes out of these shows. They have set narratives which they will force out of the contestants and they enforce them by spreading stories to the press. It's all about ratings.

If Tonya asked a LOT of money to be on, she is my hero. There is no reason to be the circus monkey for some rich TV producers without getting well paid for it.
 
I think Radar Online pays its sources. There was an article about a former friend that claimed to go to high school with Tonya all 4 years which we know isn't true. Tonya dropped out in 10th grade, and eventually went back to get her ged ( 89 or 90). Its not a reliable source.
 
I don't understand how Sarah Kawahara thought Tonya was "limited" as a skater when she was way better than Nancy. Rosenberg apparently asked Sarah to choregraph a program for Tonya once but she turned it down because she was doing choreo for Tonya's competitors (Kristi, Nancy, and Oksana). Tonya was "limited" as a boxer but not as a skater.
Sarah also thought Nancy was "beautiful" . I thought Nancy only whined about the pro comps ( it doesn't matter how I skate, I get paid the same regardless), but apparently she didn't want to do a televised Disney ice show either and let everyone know it. (Its in an article). She called Nancy a "severe skater" ( I think she meant stiff and cold), and was trying to loosen her up in this post-Olympic Disney special. There is an article about it .

Mirai also said if they do a I, Tonya 2 they should call her and she will don the blonde wig and do the triple axel for them. It could work- remember the one dancing scene in Flashdance where they had Beals, Jahan, a gymast, and a male (they couldn't find a girl that could do the headspin).

:lol: the fact that becoming a parent, stopping beating up people you're mad at, and not being in court is the low bar one has now to pass in order to be "a good person" says everything that is wrong with society today. Please, she is not out walking children in nature. Going thru periods where you actually just stay home and not be in the news is not Nobel prize worthy. And can we please just stop trying to ignore the fact that she's purposefully inserted herself in the media aggressively these past months trying to reserect her celebrity status and "career". Nobody does exclusive one on one prime time interviews because they "have no fcuks left to give". GGGGaG: she has way too many fcuks to give about what people think which is why she's spent the past quarter century trying (and failing) to rehabilitate her image. As for the lame "it's all the publics fault for never being able to forgive" trope: until you find video footage of me egging her on to smash someone with a hubcap, it's all on her so stop trying to shift blame.

Contrary to what anyone may believe here, I don't hate Tonya. I do, however, despise her constant lying; her story changes every time she manages to get back into the spotlight. I'm not angry about the movie; I enjoyed it although I didn't like the false narrative in it surrounding the Kerrigan incident. But any possible sympathy I could have worked up for her disappeared when she suddenly made the statement in that interview about knowing something was up with the goon squad before the attack. After decades of lies that she knew absolutely nothing at all until after it happened. And it was big misstep on the part of the movie cast/team to try and portray her as the victim (outside of the film itself) while conveniently seeming to ignore the actual victim of the attack.

And IMO, one thing has always driven her, namely a HUGE resentment stemming from her belief that everyone else made money off of the whack except her. It all boils down to one thing: Tonya wants to be famous, and she wants to to make the money she feels she was cheated out of. OK, she has the right to move on and try. But Tonya isn't helping herself by doing things like demanding that reporters should be fined for asking her about the incident that put her in the spotlight in the first place (and please, don't whine about her being famous for the triple axel. Outside of skating circles, she simply wasn't).

But in all honesty, regardless of how she does on DWTS, I think we will see her fade back into obscurity after it's over unless she can ring up some other endorsements or gigs. But I don't believe that is very likely; unlike athletes like Mirai and Adam who are famous for their victories/successes and not just their personalities, Tonya is infamous for a horrid incident. And her infamy is getting pretty old.

Tonya does get one benefit...her multiple incidents of committing domestic violence on her boyfriend/husband after Jeff is laughed at by most as an "Oh, Tonya..." moment or just ignored. Wake me up when Tonya cures cancers, solves world hunger, poverty, etc.
