UPDATED: OMFG . . . Adam Rippon, Tonya Harding and Mirai Nagasu are on the DWTS' all-athlete cast

I assume that they have already filled their figure skating quota at this point, but I also don't think that Mirai would be "devastated" (maybe just a little disappointed? It sounded like she thought it would be a lot of fun, but I doubt she was counting on it being her apex or anything, despite people being drama queens about her comments) by not making it. I wasn't that surprised, and I don't think that Mirai would be either. If anything, I could see her being amused that she was beat out by Tonya. ;) She sounded pretty excited about getting to go to Stars on Ice in her video vlog. Maybe she can visit Adam, I think that Gracie was in the audience for one night when Meryl and Charlie were competing.
edit: I was surprised the Shibs weren't on tbh because they are so marketable and the brother and sister competing against each other would be interesting, I just saw the note above, maybe they will be added after all? But they have so many media stuff and other opportunities going on as well that I could have seen them saying no.

Tonya so doesn't seem the DWTS type to me. I don't mean that offensively - she just seems very down-to-earth and not a 'fancy' sort of women (doesn't look to wear a lot of make-up). Fancy doesn't seem natural for her - I thought she looked uncomfortable in the dress she wore to the Golden Globes, and it was not a particularly fancy dress.

So it will be interesting to see how they 'polish' her up.
You mean like they did to this lady? http://oi63.tinypic.com/2rmsfwn.jpg

If ABC offers money to Nancy for a special performance with Tonia, what is Nancy's price? $10Million? ABC would do anything for ratings.

ABC would do anything for ratings, but Nancy doesn't strike me as someone who would do anything for money. Surely, she had numerous opportunities during the skating boom to "forgive" Tonya and perform with her in some cheesefest. But she didn't. I can't see her doing it now.

I think Nancy was part of Breaking The Ice: The Women of '94 Revisited but Tonya Harding had to perform in another rink bit this was in 98

When I heard this awful news today, I almost spit out the creamy hazel-nut coffee my wife had brewed for me in our new coffee machine! This is a disgracefull moment in the history of TV. This is the worse thing that has happened on TV since they cancelled Every Body Loves Raymond. This is worse then the episode of Roseanne where two women kissed each other in a same-sexual kiss. This is just awful.

My wife and I are both going to officially boy-cot the show. We will spend the time instead turning off all electric devices in the home and praying. It is the only thing that might save the TV stations and America it'self from this horrible, awful awful choice to let Adam Rippon be on the show.
So I take it from your post you will be watching DWTS with your wife. I know I am on board. Can’t wait!?

Apart from rabid figure skating fans and a few people who still can't get over 1994, no-one is really going to give a rats. They will wish the best for Tonya and Adam and just enjoy the show for what it is.

With Tonya being back in the spotlight because of the movie, why wouldn't you as a producer of the show get a really well known controversial name as a contestant? Smart move on their part. If you don't want anything to do with Tonya don't watch the show. But many will and many will support her.

Not that I'm doubting the news, but from everything I've seen, the celebrities announced so far are just from a 'source'. There has been no official announcement (that I know of) from ABC or DWTS.

That said, I fully believe it.

Nothing more than I said, really. Just an observation which is relevant when "what would you not do for money" is brought up.

I think in Nancy's case, after her experience with the "Breaking the Ice" special, she won't repeat it. It's just my opinion based on what I've observed on Nancy these past few years. It's also been 24 years and she seems to have more than moved on and wants nothing to do with Tonya. She also thinks Tonya was involved in the attack too.

Plus that Aviator clip you showed isn't really relevant to Nancy so much because I don't think she was haughty with money nor did she grow up having it. She worked hard to earn the money she has now and put herself out there for pro TV specials, competitions, interviews, and other bookings. She also just did DWTS. So it's not like she's above making money or considering money when taking these opportunities, but even she may have a limit. I don't fault people for hustling though. People need to do what they can to make money, but even us poor folk still have personal limits of what we'd consider doing for money.

We agree on it all, no worries.

But it’s not.

That scene means nothing beyond Hepburn was attracted to Hughes because he was different and as a rebellious 20 something she liked that he was a bit rude in telling off her parents.

The “speech” itself is nonsense beyond just telling a smug lady off. The Hepburns were very careful with money and while neither showy nor ambitious, they were shrewd, so in a sense they “cared”. It’s also disengenious to say people like Hughes, musk or gates “care about money”. If they were only interested in getting rich there are other ways. But they were all visionary inventors who advanced technology and that imho was their primary goal, not the money they made from it. Hughes wasn’t inventing new engines because he need to buy food to eat.

But instead it’s just all become fodder for more Nancy is a rich bitch while poor poor Tonya is forced to do nasty things because she “po ” nonsense

If Nancy was destitute and had absolutely no other way to feed her kids, then I could see her agreeing to a joint appearance with Tonya. Barring that, no.

A cheater without any humanity should not be making money off celebrity gained from being a part of a competitor being seriously injured (luckily not career ending) just so she could be number one.

But it's not Tonya fault that a film producer wanted to make a film about her, and that DWTS decided to invite her. You can be sure that DWTS invited Tonya because they thought it would boost ratings - not due to any intention to do something nice for Tonya.

It's true, But I'm glad she was picked over say the Shibs or Mirai. Those three all seemed too eager to want to be on the show--and, that bothered me. .

Yes, how dare anyone want to do something! People should never admit to wanting to do something. And, by all means, if they want to, we should make sure they don't get to!! It is so unseemly.

We really need to start applying this logic to everything. How about USFSA scrap Nationals and just go to a few local rinks and find some recreational skaters who totally don't want to go to Worlds. I'm sure a team could be cobbled together that way. Those skaters at Nationals are too eager to go to Worlds. And in an Olympic year, they are all way over eager to go to the Olympics. It bothers me.

I have no idea who that is haha. But I think Kaepernick is interesting since it's someone who took a stand for social injustice and basically had his career destroyed because of it. Now that's personal integrity.

But they need a pro to partner Adam. Benji was on SYTYCD and choreographs for skating and dance.
