There are so many men potentially retiring that I had to dig down to SB around 60 to fill the GP slots for my theoretical 18-19 GP series.

USA- 2 spots- Chen, Zhou, Brown, Aaron?, Krasnozhon. 1 spot- Pulkinen, Dolensky, Tomoki?
RUS- 2 spots- Aliev, Kolyada, Samarin, Voronov?, Erokhov. 1 spot- Dmitriev, Petrov, Lazukin
CAN- 2 spots- Messing, Nguyen, Nadeau. 1 spot- Phan? Sadovsky?
JPN- 2 spots- Uno, Tanaka, Tomono, 1 spot- Murakami, Sumoto?
CHN- 2 spots- Jin, Han
FRA- 1 spot- Chafik, Ponsart, Aymoz
OTHER- 2 spots- Moris K, Cha, Vasiljevs, Jorik, Samohin, Kerry, Rizzo, Paniot
OTHER- 1 spot- Lee, Yee, Fentz, Pavlov, Paniot

I am not sure about Jorik, Aaron, Voronov, Hanyu, Murakami, Mura, Dmitriev, and Rippon going into next season. I just sort of guessed that some would be gone and some would stick around...

Comment away about who I'm missing...

Pogorilaya? But that makes 9 Russian ladies x2 spots, meaning every federation invites the max, and I don't see that happening.

The scuttlebutt in #TTW (the most reliable source of information on FSU except for maybe one or two journalists) is Li Zijun appears to have retired.

I just saw a tweet today saying that Zijun has officially retired. But, no source was given. https://twitter.com/michaeljardins/status/959119457376505857
Another tweet claimed the source is provincial media in Jilin, where she trains/trained. But no confirmation yet. https://twitter.com/crazykuroneko/status/959121607938662400

Regarding ladies:
- No Hongo? Has she retired?
- I hope Leonova isn't still getting spots. Time to give it to people like Gubanova or Sakhanovich.
- Dabin Choi is most likely getting 2 spots.

Rika Hongo competed at Challenge Cup (won the silver) a few weeks ago so I assume she's not retiring.

Unsubstantiated rumor is that Sakhanovich is going to quit. I would really like to see Gubanova get her chance.

As usual, there's so many Russians and so few spots. Based on the current WS and SB list, nine Russians are guaranteed 1 GP assignment. They are Zagitova, Medvedeva, Sotskova, Tsurskaya, Radionova, Konstantinova, Tuktamysheva, Panenkova, and Pogorilaya (will drop a lot in WS ranking once 2015/2016 season is purged). There is no room at the inn for Leonova. She's not guaranteed an assignment, and it makes no strategic sense to give one to her over the up-and-comers. Konstantinova definitely needs to make her debut. If Panenkova stays in the top 24 SB (currently, she's 22), I hope they let her move up and take her GP chance while she's guaranteed it. I would also like to see Samodurova on the GP, maybe as the COR host pick.

Sakhanovich, Leonova, Fedichkina, and Mikhailova can do the Challenger Circuit.

While checking the SB lists, I realized that the U.S. has exactly one lady in the top 24 on the SB list. Here's the Americans who are guaranteed a GP by either the SB list or WS list (with the caveat that there will be changes to these as the season continues): Tennell, Nagasu, Chen, Wagner (will drop a lot in WS once the 2015/2016 season is purged), and Bell. Other potential candidates for GP selection: Wang (SB 38), Hicks (SB 40), Cui (SB 42), Andrews (SB 50), and Ma (SB 51). I expect USFS to put Andrews on the GP. I think Ma will do the Challenger Circuit. Wang and Hicks, if they stick around, might do a mix of 1 GP (if selected) and Challengers. The real question is whether Cui will move up after her strong showing at Jr. Worlds. She could also do a mix of JGP and Challenger.

I'll wait to play the guessing game until after Worlds. That way we know who is guaranteed two spots, seedings to try and guess who goes where, and then work our way down the SB and WS lists - which will change post Worlds and have the previous season adjustments. Plus factor in all the will they/won't they compete scenarios.

For example, the Shibs aren't doing Worlds, but if they continue competing next season, it'll be hard for USFS to not give their Individual and Team bronze medalists a host spot.

We won't know the seeding until after worlds. But here is the dancers in the top 20 that should get a GP or 2. Top 3 from worlds get 1st choice, than 4-6, then 6-12. I think Jr GPF and world champs get at least 1 if they are moving up.
2 GPs

2 Gabriella PAPADAKIS / Guillaume CIZERON (will do GP France)
3 Madison HUBBELL / Zachary DONOHUE (will do SA as US Champs)
7 Madison CHOCK / Evan BATES
8. Kaitlyn WEAVER / Andrew POJE
9 Charlene GUIGNARD / Marco FABBRI
10 Piper GILLES / Paul POIRIER (most likely SC)
11Alexandra STEPANOVA / Ivan BUKIN (CoR)
12 Kaitlin HAWAYEK / Jean-Luc BAKER
13Laurence FOURNIER BEAUDRY / Nikolaj SORENSEN (none due to country change)
14 Kana MURAMOTO / Chris REED (Japan)
15 Lorraine MCNAMARA / Quinn CARPENTER
16 Rachel PARSONS / Michael PARSONS
17 Natalia KALISZEK / Maksym SPODYRIEV
18 Penny COOMES / Nicholas BUCKLAND (are they sticking around)
19 Tiffani ZAGORSKI / Jonathan GUERREIRO
20 Marie-Jade LAURIAULT / Romain LE GAC

Don't they get standing points for the best of either Olympics OR Worlds? It used to be that way, I think.

Yes. If the Shibs come back (I don't think they will, but you never know) they'll get 2 GPs, but they won't be seeded. USFS could give them a host spot at SA if they choose. That wouldn't prevent H/D (or C/B) from competing there, but I would assume USFS wouldn't want to have 2 top teams at the same GP.

Shibs would be able to get 2. They are ranked 5th in WS and with retirements (V&M and B&S), they would move to 3rd. I doubt they would do SA.
Each GP has 3 host spots. US would have to take skaters from seeding 1-3, 4-6 and 7-12. I would think SA having H&D wouldn't want to put the 2 top teams against each other. The other 2 host spots the US uses is for politicking a team to make the GPF (H&B or C&B maybe) and an up and coming team for the 3rd spot.
If H&D get top 3 at worlds they wouldn't have to chose a 1-3 seeded. But they would have to chose a 4-6 and a 7-12. I think it would boil down to C&B (they most likely will get SA if they are top 3 and H&D aren't) or H&B. 3rd spot would go to one of the teams of P&B, L&B, Eaton and Aldridge or others. The 3rd host spot won't be announced for a while (like Sept).

Caroline Green is not old enough for the GP. She turns 15 AFTER July 1 of this year, so the team won't be eligible for senior competitions until 2019-2020.

It will be interesting to see who USFS chooses as the host pick for SA if the Shibutanis continue. Will they go with the U.S. champ (which has been the case most year) or go for the highest ranking/most decorated U.S. team?

normally the US has the US Champs. Unless H&D finish outside the top 6, I don't see the US adding the Shibs to SA. It would ruin a chance for both teams to go to the final.
Last year they had the Shibs with H&D because they were 9th at worlds. Shibs were seeded. They knew both teams would beat the 4-6 seed.

Where are the Knierims yo?

I think Han from China maybe wont be around?

Are all those French men sticking around?

Is Wagner officially done? Rippon?

It's too early to know who will decide not to compete on the Grand Prix this fall or retire from competition at the end of the season (or at least announce publicly they will not compete in 2018-19).

This thread is for those who just want to enjoy speculating, etc. :)

Re. Han Yan (tweeted by his fan account after he finished competing at the Olympics last month): https://twitter.com/HanYanFanVan/status/964850973578379264

ahh, I see.

Knierims said they are competing next season.

Just tell me G&F and P&G are staying in in dance. There, speculate that! :)

Didier is telling everyone that Hanyu will be in Grenoble this year. At least, that GP will be sold out if that is true.

However it turns out I like a bit of a shake up with retirements (not happy to see them go, though).

It appears likely, on both counts, but Rippon, at least, is still being pretty cagey about giving a definitive answer. He basically said he doesn't want to make any decisions yet, though he was pretty definite about this having been his one and only Olympics.
