UPDATED: OMFG . . . Adam Rippon, Tonya Harding and Mirai Nagasu are on the DWTS' all-athlete cast

Wow, I can’t say I’m surprised.

Adam should be perfect and restore honor to NE Penna;)

Tonya will bring eyeballs to the screen, even more, unfortunately, than Adam. And that for good or ill is the producer’s goal....

Remember the swimmer Ryan Lochtke from 2016 Olympics? They like controversial people. But I do have to laugh that after Tonya blew her opportunity for fame with I, Tonya and refusing interviews that would mention the whack that she managed to get this gig. I guess that means the Shibs are not in? It's hard to see 4 figure skaters getting the nod.

How can she seek forgiveness without first acknowledging responsibility for her actions? Having also watched I, Tonya, she was pretty defiant about the whole event.

What do you want her to do? She served her community service, she was booted from USFS. She was mocked for 24 years... and after over 24 years of hearing the same thing I would be telling people where to go. Why would I expect her to grovel for the rest of her life?

I don't demand that from anyone in my life.

Adam and Tonya are probably both on the show because it captures a large audience to have someone so hated by skating in the same cast with someone so beloved by skating.

Gross, gross, fcuking gross.

Not Adam, that's fine, he'll do great. But can we fcuking stop with the Harding glorification?!
We've seen nothing to say she'll be there to be glorified. I'm thinking she'll be there for the attention and viewership she brings in - especially now that she'll have a well-loved skater in Adam as a foil on the show.
I've never watched DTWS, but the potential :watch::watch::watch: moments from this makes me want to tune in.

This might be fun to watch because, despite having recognized talent, Tonya was NEVER considered graceful, never trained consistently, and never did group numbers in skating shows like Kristi, Nancy, Meryl, etc :EVILLE:

. . . Errr . . . it interesting to note that all the 1991 Ladies World Championship podium will now have been on DWTS.

It's true, Tonya will likely not make it far if on--I don't think she has a natural talent for dance. But I'm glad she was picked over say the Shibs or Mirai. Those three all seemed too eager to want to be on the show--and, that bothered me. Tonya is well known to audiences in general and, if she presents herself well (as in acts mature & gracious), I think it could be a redeeming opportunity for her. After all, she did participate in two Olympics--and, is as deserving for a spot on the show as anyone. I say, bring it!--though Adam has a real flair for movement and will be a hard contestant to beat.

The Shibs never mentioned DWTS. The only time they spoke about it was when Kelly Rippa asked them and they just said they'd be open. They weren't campaigning or anything.

The show run is only 4 weeks. I feel bad for Adam that he is not really going to get the full publicity run out of DWTS most people do.

So there. :P

Mirai had a foot-in-mouth moment in her interview after her individual Olympic LP, but it’s already been discussed here that she was probably mentally exhausted and talked about a mental tool she used to try to take the pressure off her performance in way that came across poorly. I don’t think she was being “overeager” for DWTS but I can see how it would be easy to interpret her comments that way.

The Shibs on the other hand got asked about DWTS outright by their interviewers and all they said was that they would be open to the opportunity if it came up. That’s it. Not overeager at all so I have no idea where you’re getting that from. It’s no more than what Adam or any other Olympian who was asked about DWTS has said.

I’m glad Tonya got the opportunity. I hope she will make the most of it. It really is the best thing by far to have happened to her career since her skating days. I hope she will not squander it.

I wonder if there will be drama in the life of Tonya or DWTS will choose footage of Tonya's worst moments to put on the broadcast :EVILLE:

I certainly don't expect her to grovel in perpetuity, but has she ever acknowledged any responsibility? Her perspective in I, Tonya was one of innocent victim - everything was someone else's fault. If she would show even a modicum of remorse, I might be inclined to be a bit more sympathetic.

She did on Breaking the Ice on Fox. I believe she did again on Maury but can't recall. Her apology(ies) has been rejected though.

And she was one person in a circus act.

Haha. If Tonya garners attention and attracts viewers, if only due to curiosity, they will find a way to keep her on. I'm actually a little more interested now.

Mirai was interviewed on a network that was not associated with DWTS and asked them to "Put a good word in" for her, and the hosts had to remind her their network had nothing to do with DWTS. That is actually pretty embarrassing. She was totally overeager.
