UPDATED/CONFIRMED: Evgenia Medvedeva leaving Tutberidze for Orser

Great news. Best wishes to both Zhenya and Brian.
I wish Polina would go to Pluschenko. Buyanova is getting quite crowded; she has now Sotskova, Radionova, Gubanova, and I lost track who from men are training there. Is there Voronov, or Kovtun?
I know Pluschenko doesn’t have any major wins under his belt as a coach yet, but I was impressed how quickly he fixed and stabilised Sakhanovich’s jumps. Mikhailova trains with Pluschenko now and there was a clip on YouTube of her doing a quad. Only on the pole, but she has always been known for underrotating jumps and now she suddenly works on quads, that looks promising too. If Pluschenko could make Polina’s jumps more consistent, she would be great. Her jumps are huge, but since the injury, this last season they are inconsistent. She pops jumps, underrotates...it probably doesn’t help that she is quite tall. She needs someone who is really good teaching and fixing jumps. Not sure if Buyanova is the perosn.

Has there been other Russian skaters who sought NA coaching in the past? I'm blanking out...

I hope she switches to Tsareva and gets choreography by Fusar-Poli and Pechalat! Janny would have the most bitchface adjacent cred in the history of the universe!

Damnit, you beat me by 5 hours. Just read @Ka3sha’s post, and my immediate reaction was the new coach MUST be Tsareva.

I will literally say a prayer tonight for Janny to pick Tsareva as her new coach (and for Tonya to win DWTS). :saint:

ETA now catching up, someone, anyone, please go to Tsareva...I need to see her in the K&C next season. :drama:

And I also think that being an adult would be harder in a group where you are surrounded by ambitious 13 year olds. It would be a bit like being stuck in school and it would probably make a person feel ancient even though they are quite young in the scheme of things.

Well, many NA coaches are also Russian, and of course, most Russian athletes and/or former Russian athletes would elect to go where there is less of a language barrier. So are you excluding all NA coaches that speak Russian within your question?

Yes, she does seem to speak English well. But the answer to the question above depends upon how shine defines "North American."

After all there are many Russian coaches in North America. (Coaches who represent quite a wide spectrum as far as how long they have lived here and what type of pupils they have coached, including athletes representing Russia & training in North America). Most of these coaches I would also define as North American coaches. And there are also Russian coaches who have coached in North America at some point in their lives. But I get the feeling that shine is asking a different question.

I have to admit I was also surprised that Med would choose Orser over, say, Rafael because Orser is not Russian. All the best.

Maybe Med will do CSOI next year.

@starrynight I agree completely. Eteri is very good at getting skaters to the senior level and making their senior debut successful. She has had less experience managing and coaching through a senior career. Nothing wrong with that; many coaches specialize.

There'd almost be some use in Russia setting up Eteri as like a stage of schooling. Like maybe you 'graduate' from her club when you turn 15.

Well, Canada+Japan+Spain+Korea has worked out pretty well;)

Great news!
Don't think nationality matters. Chemistry and coaching methods are more important. She also has lots of friends among other skaters around the world, Gabby, Japanese girls, so it makes sense for her going abroad. Hope it works out for her! Maybe she feels an urge to leave the nest and try something different. Can't wait to see what comes out if this, I'm excited.

I've got a really good impression of Buyanova, as a caring coach who really wants the best for her skaters, so no wonder if lots of people wants into her group. Wonder where Tsurskaya will end up. Again, Eteri cannot hold onto her girls as they mature...

People say yesterday Tsurskaya was on Tutberidze's rink. So, seems like it was hoax.

With all the political nonsense going on in the US I would not even want to visit there. I would think she has asked lots of questions with Hanyu (if she is really going there)about how he feels and for sure Cricket is Fort Knox as far as access. All we know for sure is she has left Eteri's group. If Brian has agreed to take her I feel this could be a great fit and one thing we know for sure the athlete's health and welfare is his priority and all skaters are individuals.
