UPDATED/CONFIRMED: Evgenia Medvedeva leaving Tutberidze for Orser

From what I've read, not always that fine. In fact, Hanyu almost left Brian because of it.

Orser ended up working out schedules for the two of them that rarely had them on training ice at the same time.

Source? I know Hanyu wasn't happy losing Worlds, but I've never read anything about him threatening to leave. That's quite a claim.

They had separate training times only for the 2018 Olympic season.

Ya, and I don't believe there was any actual animosity. I think I recall it being said that they just wanted them both to not be distracted by the other in such an important season and this way the coaches could spend unimpeded time with each of them.

Orser talked about it in an interview awhile back and hinted that Hanyu might have considered leaving, saying that Yuzu wasn't completely happy and they had a number of talks before they came to an agreement. There are so many articles and videos about Hanyu, I'm sorry I can't find it.

Just like P/C and V/M, although they had one session together per week (only), to have a "kick in the butt", as Marie-France said.

For god’s sake, don’t invent anything. He never said Yuzuru considered leaving. Orser and Hanyu had a disagreement in 2016 about different perspectives about what is important in skating. They were able to talk about them. Javi was never ever involved into that argument.

Do not take that tone with me, thank you very much.

I probably should have reworded my first post on the matter, so for that I apologize, but Orser definitely hinted that Hanyu was weighing his options.

Source? Hinted seems like you're interpreting what Orser was saying. Either he said it or he didn't say it. How the heck do you "hint" at something like that?

So far I am leaning towards believing couple of Russian posters on various “inside blogs” who have relevance to the Sambo rink….. they think that “Med will not be training with Eteri because Med was not expecting to compete, at least in this season".

In the recent Japanese interview Med says she just want to “regain her skating (after injury) and to just be able to skate satisfactory (in English). https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=31&v=KYURU40YT0I

- she said she is returning to Japan to do shows this Summer.

Exactly @Anyasnake ! And to me, it makes total sense and is a thoughtful thing for a coaching team to arrange and accommodate.
That is what differenciate the best coaches, if you are capable of accomodate... it's about the skaters. Yuzu and Javi did very well, and were able to train to their full ability, of course barring injuries. It's normal not to want to see each other at practice every single day for psychological purposes ! But if you can all leave with the sense of doing your best, the coach did his job.

Medvedeva's upcoming shows in Japan are:

Fantasy on Ice in Makuhari (May 25-27) & Kanazawa (June 1-3)
20th Anniversary Project Heroes & Future in Nagano (June 8-10)

Agree with all. And also, recall Yuzu and Javi's lovefest after the free at the Games. Yuzu thanking him and telling him he couldn't have done it without him (paraphrasing). That seemed genuine. Seems to me there couldn't have been animosity there. Stress, yes, lol.

This has been brewing for weeks, folks. If you witnessed a few things while Yulia was leaving, you could read the signs written on the wall perfectly well.

You're not the first one saying this... I don't really know, what are those "signs" ? Statements, social media postings,... ?
I don't really follow Ladies, but this story is big.

The behaviour of certain social groups in vk.com is a dead giveaway. The day when Eteri Tutberidze’s group started deleting Zhenya’s pics and videos and banning people who asked questions was the day when people were made alert to the fact something’s going on. The same pattern happened just before Yulia left the group.
From then on, the suspicions were made stronger because the usual insiders just kept silent when the potential split was discussed. Etc. So we expected this to happen.
Good trolling on Zhenya’s part to break the news on a Friday night!

Javi dragged himself out of bed at 6:00 am on his own birthday to live stream his skate to Yuzuru’s ice show (usually Javi wakes up at noon btw). And Yuzuru told 9000 audiences at the arena to sing Happy Birthday to Javi.
Yes they’re on very good term.

Yes, and all of this too, haha. Clearly they are close. Love them :)

Hanyu and Fernandez managed it fine.

Yes but it was only those two: Yuzu and Javi...In addition to Evgenia, Eteri has Alina Zagitova, Polina Tsurskaya, Alexandra Trusova, Alena Kostornaia, Daria Panenkova, Anastasia Tarakanova, Anna Shcherbakova and probably 2 more phenoms who have joined since I started typing this. And it's not like any of them are slouch skaters. They have all won ISU championships/medals with the exception being Shcherbakova and that's only b/c she wasn't age eligible for the JGP yet.

I doubt if Evgenia would leave b/c of competition (she's pretty fearless) but I could see overcrowding/lack of attention being a reason for her departure.

To get this back on topic, it seems that Evgenia is intending to enter a second quad of skating and wants to have a long career.

She will need a coach invested in managing her success for the long term. There is going to be a battle to get ahead of the young girls with the quads and I don't think being in amongst that will help Evgenia. She will either be placed at a lesser priority or be required to try to keep up with them. That's not great physically or mentally.

Evgenia is a popular skater and she has a lot of popularity and show opportunities in Japan. It is in her best interests to make sure she can stay skating and be happy and in good physical condition.

I think it is a good move. I just don't think Sambo 70 is the place for adult aged skaters.

@starrynight I agree completely. Eteri is very good at getting skaters to the senior level and making their senior debut successful. She has had less experience managing and coaching through a senior career. Nothing wrong with that; many coaches specialize. Someone like Brian Orser has lots of experience managing through a senior career and he also has a great team of coaches around him. If true, I think this will be a very positive move for Med. I also think it will be positive for Gabby to have another senior woman on the ice. Gabby’s primary coach is Lee Barkel so there is no conflict there, but for both Med and Gabby this could turn out to be just what they need.

Good point re Gabby. Tursy is there too but no idea whether they share ice time.
