Wow! I never expected this. She seemed to be very close to Eteri. May be this has to do with the results of the Olympic games? May be it is emotionally difficult for her to practice in the same group as Zagitova?

What is Sambo-70? Sorry I can't read the article since I am at work.

Who will be her new coach? I hope she finds a good one and continues to compete and win.

ETA: It seems Eteri is now focused on the younger skaters who can do quads, so perhaps it is time for Zhenya to leave that group.

Rumors are flying around that Zhenia might move to Borser.

Anytime anyone leaves their coach people think they might go to Orser, lol. But, who knows here. Hope not.

Not surprised. I had the feeling something was going to give with the situation at Eteri's school and her leaving makes the most sense.

Interesting, the future is... particularly after this next upcoming year when Eteri's juniors start to flood seniors....

This. Valid or not valid, there would be a rumor about it regardless.

But what the heck? It's a long way through the off season.

That is shocking...but at the same time, not so much.

It's great to be in a training environment where you're being pushed but at the same time when your biggest rival is right there next to you day in and day out, sharing your rink time, your coach, etc. that's gotta be a challenge. Alina has pushed her out of that #1 spot and with the half a dozen or so other skaters coming up the ranks, I'd imagine the rink is pretty crowded. I think Evgenia has gone as far as she's going to go with Eteri so maybe it's best they part ways. There's a lot of growth left for her skating...but she's not going to get it in that group.

Of course everyone is going to scream BOrser because he's an amazing coach. BUT I do think it'd be a good move for her. There's room in that group for her to get the attention she wants...if that's the reason she's leaving. No details have been given so we just don't know.

One thing is for certain...this off-season just got hella interesting.

I have to say, I am quite surprised though. If I was guessing a month ago, I would have guessed that it would be Alina who would leave, not Evgenia.

But then again, if Evgenia stayed, she would be in the same situation in a year or two. Next year this time Trusova, Scherbakova, Tarakanova and Kostornaya will be preparing for their senior debut. Trusova and Scherbakova have 2 quads each, Kostornaya triple axel (and that’s only what they posted. They may be working on more jumps that we haven’t seen yet). Even if not all of them survive their growth and puberty, it is very likely that at least one of them will. Alina should get enough support from Tutberidze this year, if there will be only her, Panenkova and Tsurskaya as seniors. It shouldn’t be that hard to be beating Panenkova and Tsurskaya. But in a year or two, she may need to spread her wings too.

Didn't expect this at all. I think if anything the past years have proved that training alongside your biggest rivals pays off (V&M with D&W and then P&C, Yuzu and Javi, etc.) Maybe this past months have been a too hard pill to swallow for Evgenia playing bridesmaid to Alina after 2 years of utter dominance. I hope the best for her.

Hanyu and Fernandez managed it fine.

There's several reasons that I think Medvedeva would leave Tutbveridze - not that I expected it to happen.

I think the biggest factor in Medvedeva leaving would be all the up-and-coming stars behind her. Although her and Tutberidze have a "close relationship", I would assume that like the rest of the Russian skating federation Tutberidze quickly moves on to the newest, hottest star in her camp. That would leave her without much attention.

Medvedeva is older than the other girls in Tutberidze's camp, so that coaching style probably won't work for her any more. She can't just focus on jumps any more, and maybe she doesn't want to. Maybe she thinks she needs a coach that can get her better at the complete package to stay competitive. (Although she's the best Eteri skater I've seen at skating skills - most of them are severely lacking in that department - she still needs work on them)

Medvedeva might simply want a different training environment. There's some things about her that make me think some of her opinions may not be too welcome in Russia (ie. her apparently shipping an LGBT relationship). She also seems more globally interested than some other Russian skaters - knowing many languages, watching anime, listening to K-pop, etc. so it would make sense that she would want to have opportunities to experience other cultures and training environments.

Other sources are saying she's staying at Sambo70, just looking for a different coach at that rink, and Orser rumors are rampant, so I'm going to hold off on speculating. There's way too much of it right now.

My interpretation is that she will continue representing Sambo70 but train elsewhere. This is common in the US where skaters continue skating for their home skating club after moving to train somewhere else.
