U.S. Figure Skating & NBC Sports Group Partner on Media Rights Agreement through 2026

I told IN that I wasn’t going to renew over a month ago. The CC on file was an old one so I didn’t think anything more about it. Yesterday I get a text from my CC wanting me to approve a charge for $49.99. I declined the charge. When I talked to the CC company bloody NBC had actually tried 5 different times to charge me by guessing the new expiry date of my new card those were declined then they hit the right expiry date but I declined that one. They have tried an additional 3 times with the right expiry date but the CC has blocked them!

The charge showed up on my account on June 28th. I suppose I'll be receiving some communication from NBC in the next day or so. It should be interesting to see how this new format is going to work.

Just a word of warning to anyone who updated their CC info on IN after they "fixed" the problem: I updated my info to a completely different card, as the card on file is closed, and double checked after updating it to make sure the correct card was on file with IN and that it was marked as the default for payment. I noticed that I hadn't been charged for the NBC Sport Gold pass yet so I logged into that site today only to see that they had migrated over ONLY the closed CC and not the new one I had entered on IN. It looks like they tried to put it though at least 2 times, based on the History section under My Account on that site. I've sent out an email now asking them to rectify this issue and charge me the discounted rate since I did everything I could to make this happen correctly and somehow they still got it wrong. I've also asked that they use my paypal account because, frankly, I'm not sure I trust them with my bank card given how this is going so far. This isn't the best start to a new service.

I have the identical problem. At the time that I put in my new card info, I was concerned because there did not appear to be a way to delete the old defunct bank card. All I could do was make the new card the default. I too have written and received the response that my question would be sent to the "team" to look further into it for me.

I got an email from IceNotwork.

It was telling me that they weren't going to process my renewal for "territory restrictions" reasons.

Seriously. I've been paying them the $50 (a lot more in AUD) for all these years and it's never been a problem before. But now suddenly nope. I'm sitting here with a valid credit card willing to pay you and you don't want to take my money? Well, looks like I'll be scrabbling for streams this year.

Get yourself a VPN (they cost pennies compared to IN) and use the ISU (read Eurosport) feed.

Exactly. Because reciprocal agreements for streamed material is such a mess a single source is not possible. Until media work out a international payment system they will continue to lose customers. (If phone companies can work this out for international calling so can media)

For the last 2 seasons I've used VPN to access figure skating. I have always been able to find an access point.

IF you are able to get on at NBCSportsGold (I already have an account - Cycling pass) you might be able to delete the old card.

Like I said, I already have an active account, so I switched all my billing over to PayPal. I'm much more comfortable keeping there nose out of my credit card numbers.

RogueSkater:
Thank you for sharing your story. I really do feel your pain.
When all this brough-ha-ha started, I called IN because the YEAR on my new card was changed since they last used it. It was _Just_ the year (and it hadn't expired), and I was able to change it in time. But I specifically asked the person with whom I spoke if the card would be declined because the YEAR didn't match what the CC had on file. And this person assured me that the transaction would NOT go through.

I'm fairly sure that what NBC did was illegal, and they should be rebuffed for that. I would call the office of your state's Attorney General to verify the legality and to find out what your options are.

My best guess is that the "good" folks at NBC thought that they were trying to be helpful. But that doesn't matter when it comes to the law....

I did not have an active NBC Gold pass. I tried setting up a "new" account and it told me an account already existed then gave me a link to have a password reset email sent to me.

If you want to get into your account sooner this will work.

So it appears my credit card info from my old CLOSED icenetwork account carried over to nbc gold? I never updated my new account and didn’t have any credit card info attached to it. My old account icenetwork closed when the profile was corrupted during an event this year. But it wasn’t set to auto renew... I can’t tell if I was charged yet... this whole thing has been a disaster! My account shows my credit card information but no active subscriptions.

At least I don’t have 2 nbc gold pass accounts?

This happened to me as well. I just sent an email to Icenetwork.

NBC Sports Gold just replied via email letting me know they would not try to put the charge though anymore and gave me a code to enter in order to get the discounted price when subscribing. On the plus side, I'm impressed that they got back to me in about 24 hours, which is more than IN ever managed to do.

I sure hope this is the reply I get!

No email or credit card charge yet. Hope they’re just going in batches and my account’s one of the last.

See the posts above. Some of us who updated our information on Icenetwork have found the updated information did not transfer over and they tried to charge using our old credit card information.

I didn't see any email from NBC about log-in information today. I was able to log in with my old icenetwork log-in info and password. Upon entering that, it told me to check my email since the password needed to be updated. I followed the link through the email and was able to log in. So far, I can see full event replays from all the major events from the 2017-18 season including Nationals (minus the Olympics). It includes events from the Olympic Channel.

For crying out loud. I went to the NBC Gold site, inputed my IN login and was sent a password reset email. So far so good, but when I logged in it was saying I needed to purchase a (full-price) subscription. I went to My Account and under Payment Methods saw a card with an expiration date of 2016, obviously not what was used to renew IN last season.

If I don't receive an email in the next couple days I guess I'll have to contact them and request a discount code.

It just f*cking figures that Ice Network would manage to screw up even their exit from this world. Lordie did their tech skills ever suck.

So yup, same thing happened to me. I had updated my CC on IN once they finally got the account profile function back up and running, and yet they still mapped over my old, defunct card.

Let's see how NBC does with their customer service.

At the stroke of Noon, I received an email from NBC SPORTS GOLD...

Here's what I can copy out of the message and paste it here. I'm not real big on typing tests (off topic, don't ask) so I'm hoping that I can get it all...

"Figure Skating Pass" on the left and the NBC Sports Gold logo on the right

So far, so good..... Uh, but wait a minute. I already have an active account. So, creating a new account is nutso and more work than is necessary... So I just logged in like normal.... But when I got beyond checking my account stuff again (yep, it's still all there) I didn't see anything anywhere regarding FS Pass and not a trace of a place where I could relive any skating.... Did anyone see any of that stuff?

BTW, it is my "gut" feeling that most of this problem lies with NBC, although I could be wrong.

So that's the latest peeps from me.....

p.s. last time I checked, about 15 minutes ago or so, IN is still working.... so far.

GKelly,

I'm sorry, I did not see Figure Skating on the main menu.. and it looks like I can access it. Please disregard the previous dunce question.... me happy.

G'nite.

Thanks @momnatur for that info from NBCSportsGold. I hadn't yet received an email with instructions, and I was pissed. They want the money without making sure they send out all the necessary customer details for how to use the service, in advance. Oh boy.

Anyway, I figured out how to to get signed on without having read your helpful email, which I only just saw a few minutes ago. Wouldn't you know the instructions cited are exactly what I figured out, but it took me time to figure that out on my own. Time that I could have spent actually enjoying the service or doing other things. Not a great start by NBC, and of course unsurprisingly a piss-poor end from IceNetwork too. :blah:

NBC has a nerve upping the price and stating they will auto-renew next year before the start of the new season. However, I do see a page under account profile where there's a button allowing you to turn off auto-renew. Of course, that doesn't mean NBC will abide by it. They would probably still take money whether or not auto-renew is turned off. :wall:

Now I'm going to check out how some of the posted archived events will stream. I see U.S. figure skating men's event listed without any separation between sp and fp. So let additional confusion begin... :drama:

I updated my CC info before the IN deadline; yet NBC Sports Gold wants to charge me $59.99 for access.
Who do I contact now?

Thankfully I got in with no issues. I didn't receive an email but I went to NBC Gold and logged in with my IN login. A message popped up saying I needed to reset my password and that an email had been sent to me. I checked my email, found the link and reset my password. I refreshed and logged back in on NBC's site and I see events for full replay.

I'm hoping that they work on the interface at some point. Just having a tiled page of videos isn't very appealing...then again, I have NBC Sports as an app on my FireTV and it looks pretty much the same. I don't think we're going to get any nice looking organization to the videos. Oh well...

Well, I’m one of the many who updated my credit card info on IN and whose old (invalid) account was attempted to be charged. Hopefully they’ll resolve soon.
