Personally I enjoy the podcast more with just Ashley and Adam. Their banter and chemistry is just hilarious at times. I also love their discussions on wearing gloves, skaters being too emotional or apologizing in the kiss & cry, costumes, performances, choreography, spin levels, etc. to be funny, interesting and very informative at the same time. I love that they’ve lived all this stuff and how funny they are together. Sometimes three’s a crowd. It’s now become the first skating podcast I download each week.

I don't know why Ashley Wagner has an opinion on interactions between Amber Glenn and the top Japanese skaters - she never beat Japanese skaters at anything major, apart from Boston worlds, where she also hilariously beat them on skating skills and transitions. I'm guessing no one took her seriously when she tried to portray her "tough bitch" "competitive" persona or whatever the heck she believes she's arguing for, because lol.
Is Four Continents considered "major"? Ashley won 2012 Four Continents, Mao Asada was second. Not an opinion on her opinion..just a statement.

Jan. 15, 2025 episode:
In this episode we preview the 2025 US Championships. We talk merch [Malinin’s], adding a second triple axel to your free skate, and we have our first draft of the season!
Adam mentioned at the beginning that last week’s LA wildfire came very close to his house (“2.5 miles from us is gone”).

On the latest podcast Adam and Ashley mentioned that they'd be in Wichita commenting; Adam backstage with NBC and Ashley commenting on Peacock with Ben Agosto. So... will Ashley start with the senior events; or has Gracie replaced her? Curious.

On the latest episode NOC Sarah said she wouldn't be in Wichita or covering Nats and and Adam responded with "It's not right or fair." Anyone know what the tea is there?

I thought Gracie was just doing the junior girls? That's all she mentioned on Instagram.

I wonder if NBC moved Sarah away from figure skating to avoid a potential conflict of interest so she could keep doing the podcast.

But Rippon and Wagner doing commentary is a potential conflict of interest. Terry Gannon may be the only figure skating commentator that doesn't have a conflict of interest, since other commentators have rinks, students -- even if beginners -- and others had shows and Pro "World" Championships.

True enough. It was the only reason I could think of.

Slightly off-topic, but Ashley’s voice is deteriorating as the events go on. Is she slated to cover the Pairs final tonight? She needs some tea and Luden’s!

It seems unfair that Adam and Ashley are allowed to work on air for NBC/Peacock but Sarah isn't allowed to produce behind the scenes if that is indeed the reason she's no longer working at events? She's an Emmy-winning producer so I find it weird that she would give up that gig to work on the podcast but who knows.

Metelkina/Berulava aren't going to Jr. Worlds for World Standings points: you can only have one set of championship points/season, they earned 680 for bronze at Euros, and a win at Jr. Worlds earns 500.

We began this episode with a tribute to those we lost on American Airlines flight 5342 last week. We want to be mindful of everyone’s headspace and if you’d like to skip ahead to our full episode on the European championships, please fast-forward past the first three minutes. If you would like to support the families who lost loved ones, you can donate to the US Figure Skating Family Support Fund or you can find verified funds for individual families on GoFundMe. We left the links in the episode description. 💔

ETA re. the comment posted by @kwanfan1818 above: It was mentioned in this episode that Metelkina/Berulava are also going for the Junior Worlds prize money.

The Nationals recap episode is so good.
I needed to listen to this, belatedly, and laugh today - Episode 59: You Win Some, You Liuse Some (Jan. 29): https://rss.com/podcasts/figure-skating-runthrough/1871050/

 at the extended discussion re. THE PIZZA KING (Torgashev) and how they should buy him a pizza at Boston Worlds and maybe a nice dinner too - I just posted an edited transcript in his fan thread (post #79): https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/andrew-torgashev-cheer-thread.111535/page-3#post-6736538

They should take him to Pizzeria Regina in the North End!

My understanding of it (and possibly why she wasn't there this fall) is that she was doing more NFL/football producing this fall than Olympic sports coverage. Given Peacock and NBC in general is moving away from airing Olympic sports in general - they've stuck to only the most popular ones and dropped many less popular sports - I wonder if they're restructuring their current staff. Peacock is hemorrhaging money.

At this point given Sarah is not only somewhat Senior and award-winning, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a promotion of sorts in the shuffle. Maybe they're trying to keep her while cutting down their Olympic staff and coverage, hence moving her to do non-Olympic sports producing part time.

For Olympic and other sports that are popular - like Gymnastics and soccer - I'm sure there's competition to take TV rights away from NBC. ESPN and Fox have college gymnastics already and I'm sure they'd love to have Elite gymnastics. NBC will have the same problem if Figure skating gets big again - which it might given how more skaters are going viral again. Football and basketball are very profitable and share rights between a bunch of networks, so that will be there to stay.

She mentioned on this week’s episode that she still works on gymnastics. The way Adam said it “wasn’t fair” that Sarah wasn’t at Nationals made me think there was some dumb NBC or USFS meddling happening.

@TanithandBenFan But gymnastics doesn't necessarily conflict with football/basketball, with all the biggest events of gymnastics last year coming between April and August. Figure skating is in near direct conflict through the Grand Prix to the playoffs/probowl. So moving her off figure skating would make that combination much more possible.

This was my thought too, in conjunction with a live episode of The Runthrough.
That would be amazing, although from what I remember the place was a little cramped. The California Pizza Kitchen at the Prudential Center would be roomier (though not as authentic lol).

I guess they consider Rippon and Wagner the "talent" and Hughes is supposed to be a "professional."
Has Sarah Hughes ever done or shown interest in commentating? Tara and Johnnie bring some sort of spark to the process (although I think they talk too much during performances so I choose no commentating feeds...which disappeared on Peacock).

The only thing (not Olympic champion) Sarah Hughes has expressed interest in is her day job, behind the scenes sports work, and being on The Runthrough.

As I’ve said above I sure enjoy this Podcast more when it’s just Ashley and Adam. I feel like Ashley clams up a lot more when Sarah is on. Sarah tends to dominate the conversation, when I really prefer to hear from Adam and Ashley since they have lived elite competitive skating. The Nationals recap WAS a lot of fun. Ashley and Adam had lots of funny stories to tell since they were there broadcasting (and Sarah wasn’t). Really enjoyed it. Europeans not so much. It felt more like the Sarah not Olympic Champion podcast. But to each his own. Not sure what is going on with Sarah and NBC….curious!? I do wish her well.
