I love Hubbell & Donohue but they have a long history of messing up under pressure and in the big moment. It happened at worlds last year when they were set to win a medal, it happened at the GPF this year, and it happened again here when it is clear with the 3rd highest PCS for a bad FD skate (which ironically they didnt get for their good SD) that the judges had them pencilled in easily for bronze if they just skated cleanly. I think it is silly to believe skating the Team Event would have made any difference, other than giving them some sort of Olympic medal, but it clearly wouldnt have changed their fate here which is just their history. They are weak competitiors, and not pressure skaters, but still an enjoyable team to watch who has come a long way and improved a lot.

Many Voir fans are completely out of control have have been since Davis and White started beating them six years ago. They are like a pack of rabid dogs! They're just full of...sickness!

Yup. I admit I was among these who pulled for Virtue / Moir and I jumped up and down when they won but I noticed there was surprising amount of devaluation of P/C from more V/M fans than I expected. Obviously most do not follow this trend even if they pronounce some criticism or advertising, but still there was quite a little bit of this madness magnified by preaching fix that you call out here. I would not go as far as some of their fans to claim that their rivalry with Papadakis / Cizeron was ''fabricated'' though, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth - they cry foul whenever their favourites get touched or overcome by opponents, was the same situation with Davis / White & uprorar. But then you have shady public person Mr Gailhaguet that unfortunately adds fuel to their preconceptions & beliefs.

But they definitely pulled it off against odds, presenting master class and unreal mental strength.

I just... don't get it. In the last quad, I enjoyed V/M and D/W equally, for different reasons. I adore all four of the top teams from last night (and dislike different things about them too). I'd much rather appreciate the remarkable ability of all the teams rather than wallow in bitterness. But I guess conspiracy theorizing is fun too? :wall:

Didn't expect Thauron and Abachkina would split. So after the Olympics and Worlds, we can just expect a long list of news like these.

Congrats to all the medalists! :) Well deserved!

V/M have really, really added to their legacy by coming back IMO. Now they have to be considered one of the best dance pairs of all time, I think. MR also really grew on me over the season, it was still a bit disjointed, but boy, did they perform it with conviction at the Olys.

The structure of the competition was also a bit similar to Worlds last year? Before V/M came back, there was talk that the SD wasn't P/C's strongest suit. But they could crush all the other pairs in the FD and it didn't matter. With V/M, they didn't have that cushion anymore.

Can someone answer @sk9tingfan's question?
Does anyone have access to the source that shows the placements assigned to each skater in the Olympic events. I seem to have lost it. The placements in the free dance are very interesting outside of first and second place.
It shows how each judge by country actually scored a given FD by pair. I have an image but cannot find the original source. It shows that B&S have particularly "curious" placements depending on the judge. B&S had differential placements from 3rd through 9th and this pattern was mimicked by the Turkish as well as Polish judge. I doubt if I should embed it since its source is not properly identified.
This? http://skatingscores.com/2018/oly/dance/results/

The fact that the US and Canadian judges placed them lowest should come as 0 shock.

These people don't need any fuel to go to the deep end of the "fixed results" conspiracy if their team doesn't win. For me the Gailhaguet card is a strawman justifying all the abuse thrown towards P/C and all the pro V/M victims of injustice campaigning. As far as I know, Gailhaguet wasn't in the jury unlike someone from the canadian fed.
About the odds they were not against V/M, it was 50/50 before the sd and it was in favor of V/M after. The narrative that the judges were all pro P/C at GPF and the OG is untrue.

Hopefully the big winner in all of this is ice dance. These wonderful young male dancers have elevated the idea of dancing, made it desirable and cool and shown it for more than the default discipline if you can't be successful in singles or pairs. Having had a son in the sport, there always seemed to be more great young female dancers and few guys that wanted to try.

I'm quickly looking at the protocols of the FD right now, and I'm just going to say I don't get how the judges come up with their GOEs for lifts. It's really another PCS score, right?

TBH, I wouldn’t want to send my kids into ice dance until the judging becomes more transparent and accountable.

Agreed. I love ice dancing and it's actually my favorite discipline because of the athletes themselves and what they do out there, but putting my kids through that would just be asking for a life of frustration and confusion...unless my kids do well and are accepted by the judges then it'll just be confusion and contentment and probably growing a false sense of entitlement.

So I never manage to comment on the pbp threads in the later groups as I am too invested in the skating, but I am overall happy with the Olympics and I think the results were fair.
The SD event was kind of boring and tbh I cannot wait for tango, but the FD was exciting and there were a few really good skates/programs even in the first 2 groups (L/P, M/R, H/K, G/F come to mind). :cheer2:
And then, it was such a thrill to witness both P/C and V/M skate their absolute best. :encore:V/M are simply legends and P/C have so much more to give and I am looking forward to see how they push the sport in the next years. For me the two FDs were totally different but equally good, but V/M did have an edge in the SD.
It was sad to see H/D and C/B finish their skates disappointed :(. I hope H/D can move on and keep working with their team to figure their competitive mindset out. The Shibs skated the best they have this season and even though for me this FD did not capture the 2016 magic, they totally deserved to medal.
Was good to see the veterans B/S, C/L and W/P leave the ice happy after giving it all. I hope when they conclude their careers, they will be satisfied even if their last seasons didn't bring them the results they hoped for.

Onto Milan, but first, Jr Worlds! :cheer2:

B/S are very upset! They are not happy now. Very bitter actually about all their problems and now nothing to show for it.

I agree with a lot of the recent comments here. Virtue & Moir ubers (and most of their fans) are pretty disgusting these days. It is a shame as they are such an incredible team, and for the most part pretty good people (especialy Tessa, Scott is a bit of an arrogant douche like Chan but like Chan not rotten to the core or anything) and deserve better fans than they have. The last 6 years have been the worst, thrashing any team who dares to challenge or occasionaly beat their goddess, especialy Davis & White and Papadakis & Cizeron. P&C are all the more comical when they have only beaten V&M a mere 1 time in 5 meetings (and most objective observers believe they should have atleast 2 times out of those 5 in fact, so in fact if anyone was victimized by judging in the rivalry it would have been P&C) and yet V&M have still been going on ad nauseum with conspiracy and martyr theories of how the fix is in for P&C and how poor V&M are so victimized. Atleast D&W were beating V&M often at one point. It reminds me of MK fans, who in her prime were an awful bunch, although post her retirement most of the bad have dissapeared and her fan base is now pretty good with only the odd rotten apple like giselle left, who used to thrash Lipinski and Slutskaya and anyone who dared to challenge or heaven forbid ever beat Kwan relentlessly. It also reminds me of the entitlement and arrogance of T&D fans in their return that one season of reinstated pros, but atleast that blissfully lasted only one season, but with V&M and their ubers it has lasted 6 or more. And I consider myself a V&M fan but some of their ubers the last 6 years have become embarassing, and almost make me feel less excited about their historic win than I otherwise would have been.

@caseyedwards, do you have any links that speak of Bobrova & Soloviev being upset. I am surprised to hear that. I feel sorry for them if that is the case, they should feel fulfilled and happy skating so well in perhaps their last major event. Maybe a bit miffed that Hubbell & Donohue with major errors still beat them, but that wouldnt have given them the bronze anyway. They do have an Olympic Gold and Silver medal, which is something.

Firstly please don’t lump in most of VM fans in the same basket as ubers; if you read these threads you can see that there are a few posters who are strong in expressing their opinion, so I suppose that’s how you define disgusting. Secondly, judging by by the rest of your post, your agenda in creating the goat poll is quite obvious.

@volunteer, no I do not have an agenda, and I in fact a big fan of V&M, just not a crazy uber who despises anyone who dares come within 20 points of them in a competition ever like much of their fan base here. And I have no agenda for my V&M GOAT thread, I honestly believe now based on their Oly record and overall competitive record they do have a good case of being the best team ever.

That has nothing to do with how I feel about many of their fans, seeing their self victimization and V&M the martyr complex when they were regularly losing to D&W (which I admit was suspect) was one thing, but acting that way while beating P&C in nearly every meeting since their return, and the reaction to their 1 and only loss at this seasons GPF and the horrible comments made about P&C after their huge Oly win this year which all should have been celebrating and commending P&C on their great FD and fight through a dreadful situation in the OD too, was downright horrifying and shocking. And as a V&M fan myself was a major turn off. The continous thrashing for the last 6 years plus of both D&W and P&C is remindful of Kwan fans at her competitive height (although thankfully in her case it didnt continue into retirement as I suspect it might for V&M ubers) and their collective dissing of both Slutskaya and Lipinski for obvious reasons, and a clear sign of self entitlment and arrogance. That is the last I will say on the subject, V&M and their crazy ubers dont take away from their greatness and the enjoyment I get from watching them so that is a good thing.
