The Dance Hall 13: When You Dance on the Ice and Your Feet Twizzle Twice, That's Amore

R&A have the best RD in the senior field this season, IMO. The event is generally close to home. They are likely near retirement. They finished fifth at the GPF, and one of the teams that finished above them has pulled out.

More power to them. I hope they have a great event.

Have rules changed since the 23-24 season? Vincent had to be transformed quite significantly for this season due to rule changes.

And a year ago, no one expected CarPon to drop behind ZingKol the way they have this season. And four years ago, no one expected GreenP to wind up behind both of those teams by now. It really is dependent on good material for all of these teams.

I know the ZingKol ubers are riding high right now - as high as us CarPon ubers were a year ago and as high as the GreenP ubers were 3-4 years ago. Enjoy it now but nothing about any of these three teams makes me think ZingKol are secure in their position at the top of the heap.
Just going by protocols at worlds, the one thing C/P has over Z/K is they didn't get level 2 steps or patterns. Z/K are pretty new still and it shows in the levels for those elements.

Better material will help, but I think they can get some technical advantage over the patterns and steps. (hopefully that will also motivate Z/K to work hard to not get those level 2s. )

Spots for next season -

3 - FRA, CAN, USA
2 - GBR, ESP, LTU, GEO, CZE
1 - all other feds

Seeded GP teams next season -
Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron
Gilles/Poirier
Zingas/Kolesnik
Fear/Gibson
Smart/Dieck
Lopareva/Brissaud
Reed/Ambrulevicius
Carreira/Ponomarenko

Invited GP teams next season -
Lajoie/Lagha
Davis/Smolkin
Mrazkova/Mrazek
Green/Parsons

I don't think that just the protocols from Worlds are the be-all and end-all.
It's not as if Z/K always get Level 2s -- for example, for 2026 Worlds RD step sequence, Z/K earned the same Level 3s as C/P. And Z/K earned 3.14 GOE versus C/P's 2.69.
And it's not as if C/P always are immune from Level 2s.
Yes, Z/K have room for improvement, but they are not alone here.

At Olympics:

Z/K and C/P both earned PSt3. GOE for Z/K was 3.35; for C/P was 2.56.
Z/K rhythm: MiStW2+MiStM3 7.83 + 3.29 GOE = 11.12
C/P rhythm: MiStW3+MiStM2 7.83 + 2.99 GOE = 10.82
Z/K free: DiStW2+DiStM3 7.83 + 3.14 GOE = 10.97
C/P free: CiStW3+CiStM2 7.83 + 2.53 GOE 10.36

At 2026 U.S. Nationals:

Z/K earned PSt4 versus C/P's PSt3. Same GOE of 3.35 for both.
Z/K rhythm: MiStW3+MiStM4 8.58 + 3.14 GOE = 11.72
C/P rhythm: MiStW3+MiStM3 8.20 + 3.29 GOE = 11.49
Z/K free: DiStW3+DiStM2 7.83 + 3.14 GOE = 10.97
C/P free: CiStW4+CiStM2 8.21 + 3.14 GOE = 11.35

Thanks to both teams for earning three spots for 2027 Worlds.

So nice to hear Tanith's commentary again on the USA broadcast. I missed hearing her since she started coaching. Johnny always ups his game too and sounds more professional.
They didn't get a deduction. You often see this sort of thing on protocols. 1/10 of the panel called them on violation of choreo restrictions. To get a deduction you would need a majority out of the 10 people.

Did you mean to respond in the world free dance thread?

Basically another "element" they can use to shower the top teams with insanely high GOE? Sigh.
I've heard the cde is supposed to be leveled...somehow...

there's also a "short dance lift" (no longer than 8 seconds and cannot be repeated in the fd except as part of a combo lift), a circular non-touching step sequence (must be clockwise), and then slightly adjusted twizzle rules

editing this to say the apparent goal is to have all the rd elements be leveled (not that I think it will make much of a difference)

Sorry all, but ice dance is so cooked.

I thoroughly enjoyed men, pairs, and women at the World Championships, but dance was a mess and boring and more of the same lame controversy. I love the discipline, but the last ten years have been tough.

More bullshit elements--the "Creative Dance Element"? Did Grok (the shittiest AI) come up with this?

Molina is almost as corrupt and creatively bankrupt as Shawn Rettstatt. The ice dance technical committee needs to clean house.

Okay, if I'm understanding correctly each of the 4 pics he shared are of one new element - the CDE - and the element has to meet the requirements listed on each pic. I can see how that would be pretty easy to level. I saw a comment on X by someone asking if this was supposed to replace the Choreographic Rhythm Sequence and that would make sense given the criticism we've all had about the CRS being nothing more than a GOE-grabber in the RD.
