The Dance Hall 13: When You Dance on the Ice and Your Feet Twizzle Twice, That's Amore

So much for parental weekends with child. I’m all in favor of going your own way after divorce, but if there are children, staying close enough to see them regularly should be a priority.
Have they made their custody arrangements public? Perhaps their son will spend part of the year in Italy and part of the year in North America.

Regardless, it may be only a matter of time before Babs presses the button on her stopwatch and gives Charlie the stare of death.

:watch:

I never expected anything like this, the marital rumours or an ego, from Charlie White. He has literally been the human form of a golden retriever in many ways. I figured Meryl was the darker/more interesting half of that partnership.

I find myself impressed almost. Maybe Ben Agosto would be more shocking.

I know. Still shocked of this behavior coming from someone like him. It is impressive, 20+ years of being know was a kind person - then suddenly bamn. He had such a clean reputation and all everyone talked about is how kind he was. Midlife crisis must had hit him HARD

And early - he's not even 40!!!

While I'm an unendingly curious person, I'm not sure I want to know what made Charlie turn heel so dramatically.

Charlie is 38, my daughter’s age. That is not midlife.

I also thought he was the nicest guy around except for Ben. But some Hollywood stars turn mean when they lose the spotlight, maybe that happened here.

What having a kid, trying operating an ice dance school during a impending recession, and living under the Trump administration does to a mf 💀

In all seriousness, I did even know that he was only 40. 2010 and 2014 felt like eras ago (granted I was born in 2007, 1st year DW turned seniors). Does it excuse what he did. Absolutely not. Does it possibly explain why he turn such a shrap left. Mabye
I'm no fan of Trump but I don't think he is to blame for Charlie cheating on Tanith. And I don't think the economy is to blame either. Cheating has happened during all presidential admins and economic circumstances.

And no, Charlie is not "midlife".

I'm not sure any of us are in a position to determine whether or not 38 is "midlife" for another person unless we have intimate knowledge of the age people in someone's family tend to die. My dad passed away at the age of 76 and 38 was, for my dad, the midpoint in his life.

In hindsight, on a personal level, yes. But in terms of a life phase, midlife does not start at 38.

Midlife is generally acknowledged as one's early 40s to early 60s; with increases in longevity and health, the range continues to be redefined upwards, with some now arguing that mid-life begins at 45, not the "classic" age 40.

I agree with you. But I doubt anyone in Michigan wanted to hire him. Igor doesn’t need him, and the brazen way he blew up his involvement with his skating school (allegedly trying to put his unqualified adultery partner on staff) during an Olympic season doesn’t show good judgment on his part.

Do we have any proof that his girlfriend is unqualified? There are great coaches who were not at the top of the standings or even in elite senior ranks, and some people are specialists. One example is Neil Wilson, who was a great, great spinner, but couldn’t buy a 3A or even 3Lz when I saw him compete.

I still have no idea who his girlfriend is, but I don't know if it matters if she's unqualified. Strikes me as creating a toxic work environment for his ex-wife, and a tense environment for the skaters training.

I dont think the problem with putting the girlfriend on staff is her qualifications. she's not as famous but that doesnt make her less qualified. moving the girlfriend in and either expecting Tanith to leave or suck it up is the problem. expecting his students to just train in the middle of a domestic squabble like Sister Wives on Ice and assuming they would have no issue wouldnt make me want to have him as a coach. all of his actions scream arrogance and I cant see his ego sharing the rink with anyone, let alone diva fusari-poli, for very long.

Good point, and sorry you lost your Dad when he was relatively young by today's standards.

Wait, he tried to put her on his staff? Now that is next level cray cray. I have always been a huge fan of Tanith, Meryl, Charlie, and the Moms so this makes me sad.

  @my little pony you're not paid enough for this gold.

Totally astonished at the turn of events. Especially with the rumors that Charlie tried to put his girlfriend on MIDA's staff. Do we know for sure that he's joining Barbara's staff full time?

And a year ago, no one expected CarPon to drop behind ZingKol the way they have this season. And four years ago, no one expected GreenP to wind up behind both of those teams by now. It really is dependent on good material for all of these teams.

I know the ZingKol ubers are riding high right now - as high as us CarPon ubers were a year ago and as high as the GreenP ubers were 3-4 years ago. Enjoy it now but nothing about any of these three teams makes me think ZingKol are secure in their position at the top of the heap.
I am no Zingas uber nor am I high, but Zingas/Kolesnik have improved almost exponentially the past two seasons. Major momentum. Carriera/Ponomarenko are so flat. They can turn it around but need a major revamp and POV in programs and packaging next season.

Well, that's some revisionist history seeing that they have steadily advanced from 9th to 7th to 5th at Worlds from 2023-25. Yes, this season's material, especially the FD, were not great material; and the RD lacked a distinct identity to set them apart from the rest of a bunch of mid "90s club" RDs, but there's no reason to think they can't or won't come out with better material next season, not especially after two seasons in 2023-24 and 2024-25 of very good material for both programs.

I think packaging aside each team has technical weaknesses that can be marked down and by how much will depend on the judging system. Eg Browns for skating small, zingas for not being as good as the best female ice dancers, c/p for him being stiff, Parsons for issues related to his injury.

This season zingas definitely looked improved enough for the team to be marked above the other Americans. Will see how she improves

Tech panel for Worlds is
Julia Rey (USA), Marie Bowness (Canada) and Fabrizio Pedrazzini (Italy)
Referee is Janet Coton (Great Britain).

Rey called at Four Continents and NHK Trophy
Bowness was at GPF France
Pedrazzini was at Finlandia Trophy (and JGP Abu Dhabi and Lake Placid International)

The panel of judges drawn in October was: Australia (Mark Storton was nominated by Aussie Fed), Canada (Erica Topolski was nominated), Cyprus (Valérie Grelet-Lambert is the only option), Czechia, Spain, France, Great Britain, Georgia, South Korea, Lithuania (Laimute Krauziene is the only option), Slovakia (Vladimír Čuchran was nominated), Turkey (Tanay Ozkan is the only option), USA

Krauziene ages out at the end of the season. So this will be her farewell to international stage.

ETA - this is "Wuthering Heights" from 2024 Worlds

Interesting. Good for them. I do think this has the potential to keep in closer with marks to FB/S then Vincent.

And I think doing Vincent would be so difficult to capture what they did at the Olympics. It would IMO truly feel like a retread.

I am worried about lack of mileage on this program at this point.

But I do admire the risk.

Best of luck to them. I'd love a surprise gold, but I honestly don't think they care. They had a brutal season, but had redemption at the Olympics.

I appreciate that they just do what's best for them.

I'll miss them.
