The Dance Hall 13: When You Dance on the Ice and Your Feet Twizzle Twice, That's Amore

I think C/B are done. That silver was bitter for them, and they don’t need to either lose or win another Worlds. If the French also don’t go, maybe Piper and Paul will take a last shot at gold, but if I were them I wouldn’t chance losing to the Brits or G/F. Frankly the top four teams should stay home and/or retire.

I love the post Olympics worlds because the olympics involves so many random watchers. I finally left the house last night and had to explain that Alysa has already been to an olympics, amber isnt a terrible person, and Ilia isnt a Russian plant to prop up the AIN. having a worlds right away where it is just the regular fans is so nice. it's like when the thanksgiving guests finally leave and you can change into pajamas.

The French have already announced they will go.

I think Chock/Bates have the easiest "stay home" decision because they also don't have a fed counting on them to earn spots one last time. Z/K and CPom should have that covered, especially in a weaker/transitional field. G/F, I guess, don't really need to worry about spots much either, since there aren't really any contenders further back in the Italian field at the moment.

There's no incentive for Chock/Bates to go. They have achieved everything they realistically could in skating and this really isn't something they need. Go home and make babies, or adopt more dogs, or travel, or whatever they've been holding off on while pursuing their competitive dream!

USFS may beg C/B to go to guarantee keeping the third spot. Say they don't go but some of the other top teams do -- Z/K, CPom, and GreenP might not be able to pull it off.
And I'll say for US ice dance what I said about the US men this last Olympic cycle... if the teams we have after ChoBat can't earn the spots themselves then we don't need the spots. It may not be fair to the teams who are all very talented & should get a trip to Worlds in the future, but if that's the case, go out and beat the ones ahead of you & then help earn the 3rd spot back.

As it is, I think at least one of GilPoir and GuigFab will also skip Worlds, maybe both knowing that FBCiz have already said they'll be there. The only reason for either to go would be if they thought they had a shot at winning the title but with FBCiz there, that's not happening, so there's not much upside. This is especially true for GilPoir who have SOI Japan coming up in early April. Go home, do the media circuit and get some rest before you go out on tour.

If I'm right about those two plus, obviously, ChoBat, skipping Worlds, then I think we are looking at an IAM podium sweep. Sorry, ZingKol ubers, they're going to get pipped at the post with ReedAmvru being given a nice Worlds bronze as a retirement gift and FearGib should bounce back for Worlds silver. ZingKol will finish 4th, CarPon will finish 9th, and we'll preserve our three spots barely. LopBri will be 5th, SmaDie 6th again, LajLag 7th, TurkVers will move up to 8th provided Matthias doesn't biff his twizzles, but if he does then they'll wind up behind CarPon like they did here in Milano. DavSmo will wind up 10th.

Canada will lose their 3rd spot, Italy will lose their 2nd spot, France will gain a 3rd spot, USA will maintain 3 spots, and Spain, Great Britain, Georgia, Czechia & Finland will also maintain 2 spots (though Georgia may struggle to use their 2nd spot unless Kazakova/Kasinskji can improve next season enough to earn the CTES mins).

It won't be the end of the world if Chock and Bates stay home. The U.S. will still almost certainly earn two spots for next year (The possibility of earning just one is too horrible to contemplate. :yikes: ), and the motivation to be on top form to be one of those teams that do get to go will be enormous.

C/B are doing the full Art on Ice tour starting next week and after that will be doing a show in Lithuania. These were both announced before the Olys so I assumed they were planning on skipping Worlds no matter what happened. Given how the Olys went and with FB/C going to Worlds, I'd say they are definitely not going. Z/K and CPom will be fine and I'm glad GreenP will get a chance to go to Worlds again.

If Gilles & Poirier go to Worlds it will likely be only as a favour to the federation to keep three spots for another year (or I dunno, maybe they want a free trip to Prague).

For Guignard & Fabbri, I feel like they have even less reason to, given the irreplicable high of a home Olympics, the weakness of Italian ice dance behind them (insofar as there's much less to even think about preserving spots as all that important), and there being less chance of a podium than Gilles & Poirier would have.

They’re no longer doing the show in Lithuania so I wonder if they found a more lucrative opportunity. I doubt it’s because they’re training for Worlds.

No one is contemplating one spot. It's questioning whether they can do enough between the two highest-ranked teams to keep 3 spots.

If skaters don't go to Worlds, Z/K have a fair shot at getting onto the podium and a 10th place otherwise shouldn't be a crazy goal.

Gilles/Poirier were quite vocal about Olympics FD possibly being their last competitive skate ever so I don’t think they will do Worlds.

I don’t think Chock/Bates will either.

Especially if FB/C are confirmed.
They also haven't skated at all since their event unlike a lot of other skaters who were still using practice ice times. They have been bopping around Milan enjoying themselves. I would be shocked if they showed up to Worlds.

I still can’t believe Guignard/Fabbri chose that song for their Olympic FD. There are so many great choices for a home Olympic crowd.

From our seats in the arena, the local volunteers, security, staff, etc., were all very enthralled watching G/F. Recording on their phones and cheering like crazy. I'm not saying Diamante was the best choice or the right choice (it wasn't), but it wasn't like the Italian crowd was lulled to sleep. I still can't believe they stuck with Robots all last season and BSB this season.

In the movie Local Hero, which is set in a remote, traditional coastal Scottish village, there's a young punk couple that kept bombing through the village on the guy's motorcycle. The spiky-haired young woman in the couple started to chase after one of the visiting business guys in a suit. When her counterpart sulkily asked what the other guy had that he didn't, she replied, "He's different."

Like the waltz.

Isn't the prize money for second place at Worlds $65k? With $90k for first place? That's not a bad payday. No idea how lucrative Art on Ice, etc. are and how tempting a near-guaranteed extra $65k income would be as they ride off into the sunset.

Gilles/Poirier practiced for the Gala yesterday and Piper (her Instagram story) said how weird it felt to be back on the ice.

So yeah. Not likely at all.

I don't think the US is losing 3 spots unless someone makes a significant mistake. Both Car/Pon and Gre/Par were in the top 10 at worlds last year (5th & 9th), and if C/B skip I expect Z/K's PCS to suddenly rise. It wouldn't be at all shocking for them to win a "surprise" bronze behind F-B/C and Fear/Gib.

Not convinced of this at all. Like I said, I expect ReedAmbru to be given a "happy retirement" Worlds bronze. And if GilPoir skip Worlds as expected, LajLag are going to suddenly make a big jump - maybe not enough to beat ZingKol but they'll leap ahead of both LopBri (as FRA #2) and SmaDie. The USA is looking at 4th & 8th at best (and CarPon may wind up 9th if TurkVers keep their twizzles under control).

R/A got their retirement bronze at Euros two years ago, a worlds medal for them would be nightmarish.

I'm just sayin'... I don't think the international judges are putting ZingKol on the podium this season. They've liked ReedAmbru all season.

Maybe, it's all speculation here. No one expected the Shibs to medal at their first worlds in 2011 when they were 16 and 19 but other teams made mistakes and their tech quality was undeniable. We'll just have to wait and see!

With the French winning Olympics, this is a cue that quality is going to matter more in scoring. Could be wrong, ice dance politics is so :bribe: :EVILLE: :argue::scream::drama::wall::blah::BNS1:

I loved G/F's FS choice and the program itself.

What was such as shame about the G/F RD was that they could have picked something Italian. I was there in 2001 and spent a bunch of time in a car doing day trips in Tuscany, and Italian radio was playing a ton of infectious songs. I can't imagine that wasn't true two or more years earlier.
