It's really hard for small Feds that don't subsidize their skaters to get any traction, unless a national hero/heroine like Yuna Kim comes along. Even the Russian-, Canadian-, and US-born skaters who switch Feds don't give that much of a boost to national programs.

If Tutberidze hadn't come along at the right time, I don't think that even bucketloads of $$$ invested before Sochi would have made much of a difference for Russian women. it's not like the established coaches were pumping out tons of prospects, and Russian Men were relying on Plushenko, who wasn't even going to Worlds to earn spots.

I'm beginning to think winning Europeans has morphed into being bad for one's future career and not so sure it is a criteria for being removed from the train.

Italia Men
Chen - wow, what an improvement! He fell on the triple Axel, but if I recall correctly he was still doing a double on the JGP.
Fentz - rough.
Frangipani - the threat to Grassl and Rizzo is receding.
Tomono - messy in places, but very nice skating.
Kolyada - always so close to being genuinely great.
Gummenik - obviously a big improvement on test skates, but we're still a long way from top form.

Vasiljevs - horrific hairstyle overshadows what most people would see as a clean program (not catching the technical fall).
Cha - very nice program, and no rotation issues today (as far as the panel saw it).
Jin - nice to see that he hasn’t let the bad Worlds result spiral, we'll see if he can keep this going.
Aliev -
Grassl - finally some good news for the home audience. Edging out Kolyada with Kolyada's signature music is a feather in your cap.
Kagiyama - yikes, that was disappointing.

Sofia Lost Queen - Euros 2019 seems like an ice age ago. Mishin feels the same.
Lim - Korean lutzes are everything.. Too bad about the fall and generic Roxanne program.
Sis - she reminds me of a young Kostner without the clunkyness.
Tiny Jumper- Im glad they recognized her superior PCS for once but honestly I dont wat her on the JPN team, sorry not sorry.
Yelim - I take back the KOR lutz comment.
Zarina Anna - I like her interpretation but the power is lacking

They are not being dumped by the Russian Fed.

They are currently #2 at home and they didn't get a berth at Rostelecom. (Probably because Zhulin didn't want them there). Russia could have invited them, but it's really not a bad sign to be sent away from home because you are competition for the national champions.

I Much much prefer it when Federations separate their number one and number two teams and don’t have them at the same Grand Prix events.

ITA - Real Rolling Stones!! SkatingGods heard my prayers.. They were the weaker parts of previous partnerships soo.. meeh.
CHN - A part of me is thankful for having a chance to appreciate unknown CHN skaters, the other part is thankful there werent three obscure CHN dance teams filling space in the GP field.
Lopareva & Brishaud - I confess to have been stalking him on Instagram since juniors. I like they carried the energy all trhoughout but the pattern felt small.
The Dick - Where's the green hair? If you are going to go the Perkova route I need full commitment!!! I always feel like he's dragging her.
Souccise & Firus -- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
SurvivingSiblings - they are becoming smoother and smoother. I cant wait for Hawayek's b--chface!
Wang&Liu - how did those costumes say Elvis I dont know. OK but nothing outstanding.
Narcissus & Echo - Kings of floww. the way the cross half the rink in seconds is yummy. Nice touch of Gabby to go carrot like to match the costumes.
Puppy & Legs - love the atmosphere and chemistry they create but as with all Svinin/Zhuk teams, the steps are just not powerful enough. Puppy missing Zhuk in the K&C awww.
H&D - I prefer them over G&P but I fear they will become the Bourne&Kraatz of this era.

Overall half great, half abysmal which I guess is above average for the guys.

Chen - Me: "Ohh this is a great start for a men's event", but then of course he ran out of gas and 3A splat. Still promising though
Fentz - Oh dear, what's GER oly comittee position on sending him just for the team event,?? @Jeschke ??
Frangi - And I thought Paul was disastrous. A train deluxe for the ages. Home pressure+ the need to deliver for the oly ticket took the best of him. Despite the epic meltdown you could still see glimpses of a great program there. Team nominee???
Timono - Soft and lovely... awfully underscored on PCS.
Baba Yaga - Sighs--- what more can you say about him at this point. So beautiful, so hopeless. That final 3A getting that high of GOE shows judges still want him to suceeed though.
Gummenik - Im more and more tempted to start a petition for "only one quad allowed " rule. The guys simply cant handle too many. I need for attack in the steps.
YuriOnIce - He's great but slightly stagnated. He should be getting closer to Brown Levels in the "got no quads but just watch me interpret the hell out of this " department.
Cinderello - Awesome Lz-Loop combo. Love the abandonment to the music.
Spidey - I adore that costume. I would wear that. CTHD also??? So stiff but the jumps are back. Keep it together tomorrow please.
BaldingBoy - come on, the 3rd spot is still up for grabs. Grab it dont drop it!!
Grassl - still feels like he's learned the choreo rather than feel it but vast improvement over SA. Congrats. See you at Beijing.
Yuma - I should feel bad but his spot on the team is still safe and is a Bubble program , soo bleeh.

Mai. PCS game sucks so much.
Maiia. I like this SP for her, but this felt flat somehow. She is way more than a dark horse to me.

Gutmann. Her skating seems to go way downhill since 1st event. Something off here.
Sofia. Ouch. All natural spark gone. Seemed laboured and forced.
Eunsoo. Mule kick lv4. Way better than I expected her #koreanrace will be so
Loena. Seriously, I am no big fan of her, but big kudos to this. She seems so polished in everything she is doing out there. Happy judges are going for this.
Miyahara. All the class, all the heartbreak
Kim. So pure. Crazy speed going into 3lz. No way I will not come out of KOR olympic race.
Shcher. Usually she is fine for me but that program somehow annoys me. Too much going on every second, Music is great and could have be used for something awesome but turned out meh. Pos GOE in the combo, wtf! No comment on overall scoring.

ITA. Streetdance. Interesting.
CHN2. Decent back-up team. I kinda like them. Frightening to see that CHN level in dance is better than ladies.
FRA2. Can't really get into these 2 and wished the teams around LeMercier and Perron would have made a better impact in the senior field. Preferred them way more as juniors.
GER. #teamjansevanrensburgsteffan. It's good to see those 2 are getting more confident with each outing. Can't really see them climbing the ranks much in the years to come though. The knc-meanspreading is giving @alchemy void sleepless nights.
CAN. I remain silent.
USA2. A shame I am not buying this RD much, as their FD is brilliant. Can't wait to see Hawayek
CHN1. Big no-go to me. From program, to costumes, to music choices. Just awful.
FRA1. New pants. Much much much handography and the rest...hmpf. Nothing really outta this world. Their skating is gorgeous still. Momentum gone for me.
RUS. Backstreet Boys I need @alchemy void cam now! Classic Zhuk-program, not impressed. By now I am wondering if they really can get to a worlds medal once
USA1. Way too much for me. In everything. So distracting from their actually good skating.

RUS2. The heartbreak (for me) is real here
GER. Introducing them as 'the class of this group' . Their twist was the best in their very first outing ever and is getting steadily downhill to this stage now I love them, but this is such a rough season for them Supportive Kunkel is best
ITA2. 'Music by Evanesence' was the best moment of their outing
ITA1. Love the opening. For god's sake bring 'The Beatles' version I know she seems to be loving her catsuis, that one, I don't like.
CHN2. Stunning look on her Somehow I like this weird music mix, which on paper would so not be my thing. On tech level, maybe the best we have ever seen them. That throw and lift entry: was pure class How I at CHN fed pulling them off their 2nd event
CHN1. I'd have them in 2nd. Overall, they remain the only OGM I accept in pairs.

Cha. Fantastic outing. I just don't connect with his skating.
Jin. Love 'Eternal vow' from the CTHD soundtack Solid, but didn't buy this at all. Hate the costume.
Aliev. Love this program for him but his chances of making the team are fading rapidly. Seeing this knc now after Euros knc Best arse of the event though ?‍
