I'm very sad Worlds is canceled, but it's the smart and right decision. I was still feeling somewhat delulu they would hold it without spectators, but obviously that's not feasible.

However I'm selfishly feeling better about my decision to binge on way too much Jr Worlds last weekend and sacrificing many hours of sleep. :p

Hopefully a few of the spring internationals go on (with a stream!).

Very sad but understandable about Worlds. Its starting to get a bit out of control in some countries and in this globalised era better not to take risks.

This whole season has been a miss for me. I guess I'll use that week to catch up on 4CC or something else :D

So biggest impact on missing Worlds?

MEN: No final Chen vs Hanyu. THe bronze medal will remain a forever mistery. Who would have goten it?
LADIES: I think The 3As still have one more season of domination ahead. So no big deal.
PAIRS: Shame for Boikova/Kozlovski. Relief for Tarasova/Morozov.
DANCE: P&C should feel relieved too, now they can regroup calmly. Snake Chock lost her biggest chance. Bummer.

I'm saddest for Pavlyuchenko/Khodykin and Danielian in terms of having the toughest challenge in getting back on the team next year (which is not to say they won't!). Feel for the other skaters that had momentum - S/K, B/K, and 3A's - but feel they are well-positioned to regroup, get some rest, and then look to come out blazing again next season.

It's so weird that we had all those break-up announcements, as if the season was already over, and now it turned out that it is!

Well, one of the 3As may never get to be world champ. I agree they may have one more season which means 2 had a chance at the gold. And ? wuzrobbed Agree that Tar/Mor are probably relieved and I don't know that Boi/Koz will repeat for next season. And who knows if Hanyu's body can hold together another season.

ETA: I didn't think about Daria. :wuzrobbed :wuzrobbed I agree they may not make the World team again.

Sort of related, but I'd say this greatly increases the odds of Hanyu being in Beijing, for those wondering about it. It might have been imaginable that he would call it quits at the midpoint of the quad, but going to Stockholm and then retiring with the Olympics less than a year away seems very unlikely.

This has all kinds of knock-on effects for spots going into the Olympics.

For instance, the Canadian ladies were facing the basically certain loss of their second spot this year, which would mean that to have two spots for Beijing would require them to be top ten in Stockholm; now they'll have two spots in Stockholm, the bar for two in Beijing is lower (top 12 + both make the free), and they've got another year to hope that skaters like Daleman and Cotop who keep getting the shit kicked out of them by injuries will be healthier. So the odds of Canada having two ladies' spots at the Olympics just went way up.

Conversely, for a country like Spain this is a blow to the dream of finally getting that second dance spot.

Very good point about the CAN ladies spots. On the other hand. Men are stuck with only 1 for the pre Olys Worlds.

Ouch for the 2nd ESP dance spot. But Im still pissed they picked S&D over H&K despite the later being the best at Euros so ... karma.

For Canada, in terms of spots, not hosting Worlds is good for the ladies and also the dance, and bad for the men. The ladies almost certainly would have lost a spot this year, but may be in a better position next year (or maybe not, but then it doesn't change anything). The dance was also in danger of dropping to two spots with Fournier Beaudry/Sorensen out, and now they'll have three for the pre-Olympic year to give them the best chance of ending up with three for the Olympics. But for men, it means only one shot to get a 2nd spot back before the Olympics, not two.

Of course, G/P may have had a shot at a medal at home, but still, I think it's good for dance (though I wish L/L could have had that experience).

If Montreal Worlds end up getting moved to 2023, L/L may be the super-long-term beneficiaries of this cancellation. Hometown Worlds when they’re Canadian #1 and vying for a medal!

I'm devastated circumstances beyond our control led to the cancellation of Worlds as I had tickets for terrific seats. On the plus side, we didn't have to sit through those ridiculous awards they were planning to announce.

So are the French men who will only have 1 spot for Euros next year too :slinkaway

I was never was going to sit through that anyway ?‍♀️ NBC sports more than likely would not have shown it, hell they can't even show a gala, and I would have been on a very long train home to DC.

? True, so true.

On the negative (or downside), a year in figure skating can be a lifetime. So, that sucks. ?

Another group of people who generally lose out: anybody who either didn't go to Euros/4CC or had a bad showing there and had some expectation that Worlds would provide some sweet, sweet world standing points.

Nathan obviously has won so much stuff that he can make do, but for, e.g., Kevin Aymoz, who had a disastrous Euros and had a realistic shot at top ten (even top five!) at Worlds, he's got a big old zero in the ISU Championship column for this season. Similarly, Mariah Bell and Satoko Miyahara, who skipped or weren't assigned to 4CC.
