If that’s the case then wouldn’t the cancellation evaporate all the skaters there and not just one? That doesn’t make sense at all. Who has stepped up to take Kamila’s momentum? I don’t think anyone can touch her when she skates like she can.

I know there are some die hard Anna fans here, but Kamila has demonstrated she’s the best skater in the world right now. The others are playing catch up.

As far as Alena, it’s disappointing. She’s definitely the one Russian lady that most international fans that follow figure skating enjoy the most. She has something special. It would be great to see her with coaches better suited for her.

What coach do you want aleona to go to?

Raf and LeaAnn Miller

(nothing at all to do with the fact that Raf's training base is a few hours from me)
Interesting. Raf is a long shot because of location. Would the Rusfed pay for all her expenses to live and train in America? I have my doubts. I would take Aliona going to Davydov or Rukavicin. I am not sure she leaves EG. But I am good with Aliona putting her 3A on the shelf and just skaing as clean as possible next season. Then once she is a great skater again look to add the 3A. We must realize that all the girls doing ultra jumps are struggling physically or to skate clean.

Also the way Danil treats Aliona is frustrating and the grovelling she had to do after going back to Eteri was too much. But I would think Eteri would want to keep her and say see I have a 19 year old woman who is the most beautiful skater in the world. I hope AK goes where her heart tells her to go.

Isn’t a big reason for training with Eteri the opportunity to make money in her shows? You’re not on the Russian figure skating gravy train if you’re not with Eteri….not to forget the publicity, cachet, politics, Kremlin pipeline, etc. Unless Alena plans to skate for another country & give up her Russian Federation membership, why leave Eteri?

As posted in the Russian Nationals thread in Kiss & Cry earlir today, Arina Onishchenko has replaced Anastasiia Guliakova who has WD "due to an ankle injury, the athlete's coach Alexei Mishin told RIA Novosti."

So sorry for Nastia. I hope it's not a severe ankle injury. But her season is pretty much over. unless somehow qualified for the Russian cup final.

Yes you are right. But even if Aliona leaves Eteri who isn't going to want her in their show? I mean being with this great coach hasnt exactly gotten AK lot of endorsements.

Brief update on Konstantinova: She's been dealing with both ***** and injury, but plans to start skating again in January.

I was wondering what happened to Stasya this season. I've seen some pictures of her recently she looks phenomenal but of course that doesn't mean anything to being in figure skating shape. The virus and a foot injury can kill a figure skaters season. So many girls are missing from Nationals it's a shame. But this is the new Figure Skating World they live in where viruses are more important than injuries.

Does anyone have a link to the supposedly free live feed? Is this the one on YT that connects you with a Russian site (in English) that you have to give your credit card to?

I understand there were some stellar performances today at Russian nationals for the ladies.

A recap or 2 would be nice. ;)

But the free skate will tell the story. Although it's hard to imagine that kV would not win the gold. That said anything can happen.

How did the 14 year olds do?

Of course most importantly how did sasha do and what are her prospects for tomorrow? We all know she can make up a lot of ground in the freescape like she did at worlds.

Very good competition. Falls were rare. One each by Liza and Sasha and a young skater IIRC.

The 14 year olds did very well. Most of them had 3Lz3t, 3f and a 2A. There were 3As but Not by a 14 year old, IIRC. Some of the 14 Yo could get ultra jumps in the next two years and become more competitive.

Kamila is just one year older than these 14 yo. Just goes to show how incredibly talented she is. I don't see anyone beating her this year.

Sasha went for the 3A and fell but she is in the final group for the free skate. Judging from her jumps I don't think she is anywhere near 100 percent. Since Liza and Maiia are in the group before hers, I think she may make the team if she does what she did at SA - One quad lutz and the rest triples, landed with determination, like today.

It was the best of times for Kamila and Anna. It was the worst of times for Liza, Sasha, and Maiia.
I expcet sasha can score 145 tomorrow and be over 230 points which would ensure her of 3rd place among seniors which is important. I just wish they killed the triple axle in her SP. She screwed up her gold medal at worlds because she bombed the short program. While scoring in the mid seventies put her in good shape for finishing the top 3 among seniors it could have been a much higher score.

There is a lot at stake tomorrow for sasha Liza and Maya. Maya is not skating well the last couple competitions so I'm not expecting big things from her. It will be fascinating to see how things unfold.

Best for the top 3 and worst for some seasoned skaters.

I heard that Sasha was landing the 3A in practices so she went for it. Didn't work out.
Don't be a hero when you don't have to. This isn't the Olympics and this girl just does not see the big picture. How many points did that fall on 3A cost her? Sasha can make up for everything tomorrow and if she scores 145 points as I expect she will be in good shape.

If Sasha cannot beat Liza in the free skate tomorrow she may not deserve to go to the Olympics. I never imagined that Sasha would be ahead of Liza after the SP but that's the way it is.

Good luck to both ladies tomorrow the pressure will be immense.

How much does it hurt Liza that she is skating in the second-to-last group instead of the last group?

I also think Russia and all countries we need to send alternates to the Olympics with a propensity for athletes testing positive it's best to have a back-up plan and every discipline should have an alternate or to for each country especially in a pandemic world.

Sasha scoring 74.21 with a 3A fall was no catastrophy. Her scoring potential in the short without the 3A is around 76-77 points anyway.

But for Liza it was a disaster. She needed that 3A advantage from the short to be ahead, now she's behind instead.

Sasha is the clear front runner in the Sasha/Liza battle now. She has it all in her hands and just needs to be clean-ish tomorrow to be 3rd girl.

BTW, the scoring has been revised for Muravieva. They added a time violation. Apparently there was some kind of input error. So Anna is now 2nd and Sofia M is 3rd.

I personally don’t think it’s a bad idea for Sasha to go for 3 axel here she will never get it at Olympics if she doesn’t try for it at major competitions she just needs to beat Liza and I really think she can.

Kamilla and Anna are just showcasing why they should be 🔒 for the Olympic team

I don't think that skating last in the penultimate group is going to hurt Liza's GOE or PCS. The judges know she is currently 4th of the senior international eligible women and her PCS was on par with Sasha.
