Royalty Thread #16: the best of times, the worst of times

Prince Andrew has announced he will give up using his Duke of York title and other honours. The real question is is this actually his choice or was he ordered to do it?

I'd bet that this is a brokered agreement between Charles, Andrew & William.

Rumors have been flying that William wanted Andrew basically exiled - if not out of the country then surely forced out of Royal Lodge and no private social life - like the shooting parties he is still allowed to host at Sandringham & Windsor. And that he very much wants Andrew stripped of his Royal titles.

Andrew, of course, wouldn't want to give anything up.

And Charles is in the middle, not wanting to request Parliament formally strip Andrew of his York dukedom, not really wanting to ezile his brother completely - and, honestly, it's probably wiser for Charles to pony up the cash to pay for Royal Lodge's upkeep and keep Andrew under close supervision than it is to send him off to God knows where so that Andrew can get up to no good by associating with more filthy rich scumbags.

So, Andrew agrees to stop using his titles, is still Prince Andrew as the child of a monarch, and can still have a private social life of an aristocrat.

There's supposed to be a separate thread for him because what he stands accused of is really beyond the scope of this thread (and potentially trigerring for people).
Yes, it's here:

And for the very reasons you state, people should show some consideration and post in that thread rather than this one.
