Royalty Thread #16: the best of times, the worst of times

And Sofia looked superb at the royal dinner honoring the Nobel laureates:

As far as I know this is the first time in years Sofia has worn a different tiara from the one she was given as a gift by the king and queen for her wedding. I hope this is just the beginning of her getting to play in the vault more frequently ... the Swedish royal family has the most amazing collection of tiaras and jewels! The aquamarines are stunning on her.

News indicates Prince Andrew is or was a close friend of a Chinese spy recently banned from entering the UK? Can this prince's judgement go any lower?

There are people here who don't want to read about Prince Andrew. I created a thread about him so that those who do want to discuss him can do so while respecting the feelings of others.

For similar reasons, SHARPIE created one about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

@Vagabond I think the Prince Andrew link does not connect to FSU. What is that site?
Also, I thought I remembered that members concluded that there were now so few posts relating to Harry and Andrew that they could just be included in the Royal thread. I may be wrong.
I like all the royals except Andrew and I just skip over anything I don't feel like reading.

I fixed the link.

There are people here who come to the thread for tiaras and the like and not for all the skulduggery Andrew gets himself into. It is possible that the poster of whom I am particularly thinking is more relaxed on the subject now, but I very much had her in mind when I started that thread.

Harry is an altogether different story, but there are people here who don't want to read about him either.

All that said, if either prince wears a tiara to some grand event, the news absolutely should be posted here. ;)

As in any thread, it's easy enough to scroll past the posts you're not interested in. ... she says because she's about to comment on Prince Andrew ;)

This latest news about being involved with a Chinese spy furthers my impression that Prince Andrew is really gullible, an easy mark for anyone who wants to exploit his connections or boost their own image by associating with a prince, and not some obscure one, but one who is very well known all over the world. Maybe it's insecurity on his part, maybe it's disconnection with reality, maybe it's an inflated sense of self importance, I don't know, but it's dangerous for the Royal Family.

Me! It was me! And I appreciate your post.

There are so many heavy topics out there and it's nice to have a frivolous spot to discuss bling and gossip. Personally I'd rather keep this a trigger/negativity-free zone, but I'm not going to to police the thread.

(no, skipping posts is not the same as having a completely frivolous royalty thread)

Harry in a tiara would be GLORIOUS.

So if it's only about frivolous stuff what falls under the "worst of times"? Someone's slip showing?

That is my memory too.

Don't forget growing up in a bubble (which is different than disconnected from reality for me). It reminds me a bit of skaters who grew up at the rink.

Humph. Kate's shoes weren't brown. They were NUDE!!!! I was always told nude shoes made a person's legs look longer. At least that's what the salesperson always told 4'11"
me.

5’6” me was told the same thing and used to have a couple pairs in rotation. Some skaters who wear tights over boots obviously believe it as well.

She has much better looking nude shoes. Those are UGLY.

The "worst of times" has to be the hideous brown shoes Kate used to wear to every occasion. They were awful looking and she literally wore them to everything for a year.

ETA it's these ones.
They look cheap too. I didn't know Payless had stores in the UK.

eta BTW I vote for one thread. For one thing Andrew is only mentioned if/when he does something stupid again so not enough for his own thread. And Harry was born a prince - why not include him in the royalty thread? After all Edward & Anne are occasionally mentioned, & same for Sophie who is not a royal at all & Pippa who is not even married to one. There are a lot of subjects that others sometimes go on & on about that I'm not interested in. It would be arrogant for me to try to ban those subjects. Just skip over them.
