Netflix/Prime/Hulu Discoveries

I really enjoyed Crossing Lines when it ran on CBC (one of the producing partners), despite the somewhat farfetched premise.

OK, just watched the first season of Bloodline based on recommendations in this thread. I agree with what was said above.

Has anyone been watching season 2? How long a break should I take before watching it?

Finally caught up with Hell On Wheels and looking forward to watching the final episodes when they start airing next week.

I just started Bloodline season 2 and I like it so far. Continues right where last season left off so you could go right into the next season if you wanted. I didn't read what other people said so if you aren't liking it then definitely take a break because it is very similar to season 1. There is no jump in time or anything.

Thanks, BigB08822.

I generally liked it but felt it moved slowly. Maybe I'll start watching season 2 next week unless I get involved with something else before then. Thanks,

Just finished season three of Peaky Blinders on Netflix. This series keeps getting better and better.

Good to know. I watched the first episode last night, so that encourages me to continue.

Does anyone else get "sorry, something went wrong" when trying to play certain shows? I'm getting that over and over again on a couple of shows in particular, and it's very annoying. I exit Netflix, go back to try again, and same thing.

Specifically asking other Canadian Netflix-ers.

That has happened to me in the past. I never figured out a workaround. Just gave up on those shows.

I'm trying to remember if they eventually worked (say a month later). But I can't. Sorry.

It's been happening A lot to us on a few different things. We also live in BC.
Netflix has been a bit troublesome.
But sometimes it's your wifi.
I was having speed issues which finally got resolved.
But I do think what you're talking about is a Netflix issue.

Anyone have any suggestions for a good detective/police/crime series that isn't too gruesome? I tried Rush last night and wasn't really impressed.

Also looking for a TV series of any genre set in a holiday-like setting, such as Death in Paradise, Royal Pains or Reef Doctors. I won't be able to get away this summer so am looking to vacation vicariously!

I assume you've seen Midsomer Murders? It's the quintessential "cozy" detective series. Also Miss Fisher, mentioned up-thread by several posters.

And one that fits both bills (non-gruesome detective and holiday settings) is Rosemary & Thyme. It's about two landscape designers who manage to get embroiled in a murder on pretty much every job they do. The earlier episodes are all set in glorious English gardens, in the later ones they travel to elsewhere in Europe. It's more than a bit twee, but fun and gorgeous to look at.

I finally got it to work by logging out of Netflix completely (instead of just changing the channel), then rebooting the cable box.

nlloyd, let me know what you think. Edge of your seat? bitten nails? screaming frustration? ...........

I just don't know about PB. I'd heard that it was soooooo good. . . but it's so friggin' violent. I had to stop watching.

Second/thirding/fourthing/whatever Miss Fisher's. Good eye candy, great costumes, silly and highly unlikely storylines. Great escapism. Merlin also good, silly escapism. Also enjoyed earlier seasons of Foyle's War (plus, there's an actress named Honeysuckle Weeks! Really! Can you beat that?) and Bletchley Circle and Broadchurch. Clearly a lot of us have been following the same suggestions from Netflix!

Inspired by a friend's recent discovery of all things Star Trek with her 9-year-old son, I started watching Next Generation (watched it years and years ago when it was on TV). Oh, the tender reunion of two giant space jellyfish!!

I have watched and loved every single episode of every Star Trek show in existence., but the movies are another story! LOL

Inspired by Medvedeva's anime twitter, I watched Norn9 on Hulu. It had nice moments.

Sherlock? Or (my favorite) the 1980-90s Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series. It's on Netflix.

I just binge watched Tales of Irish Castles. I liked the mix of history, architecture, archeology, travel show. Nicely paced documentary.

On Netflix I kept seeing Miss Pettigrew on my list of You will Likes, and today I thought I'd give it a shot. It was a fun movie. I'm glad i watched it.

beautiful people, costumes and music.

Was really looking forward to it, but turns out my partner has seen it. Frustrating, because watching TV is something I don't do alone much. We tried Shades of Blue and it seemed okay, but the theme of police corruption has also been explored quite thoroughly in Chicago PD and so seemed a bit tired.

I just finished the first season of Bosch on Amazon Prime and really enjoyed it. There is a second season and I will certainly start that tomorrow.
