:( For the longest time he lived about 10 minutes away from where I grew up. We'd see him around town every now and then. He'd always be out at the ballpark complexes watching the kids play and would sign autographs and take pictures for anyone who came up to him. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

I am watching Breaking News. He is gone. It's the end of an era. Some years ago I saw him at the Phoenix Suns game. He was in a wheel chair. He received a huge ovation from the fans

I have changed the thread title with the update.

Condolences to his family and friends

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

Muhammad Ali

A very said day

RIP The Greatest - a great man who showed the world that anything was possible and achievable, including successfully and courageously standing up to an arrogant U.S. Government over the Vietnam War and showing the world that you follow your conscience and what you feel to be the right thing to do, and not blindly follow Government's simply because they tell you to

I am not a boxing fan but Ali transcended his sport like no other athlete. It was sad to see him in recent years with the Parkinsons totally dominating his life but it is also easy to remember him as the giant he was.

RIP Muhammad Ali you will be missed :(

It seems like a star comes out of every Olympics & for the 1960 Olys it was Ali. I had never watched the boxing before but for the 1st time it because a must-watch sport. And he wasn't just another athlete. I've always thought Ali was the most beautiful man I'd every seen. When he was young his body was absolute perfection. It was painful to see him when Parkinson's started taking a toll. I've always been glad he was given the honor to light the torch in Atlanta 1996. RIP

Wilma Rudolph won 3 gold medals in track in Rome - the link below about Ali's life contained an story she tells about him in the Olympic village and afterwards during a parade in Louisville in their honor:

His athletic accomplishments are undisputed.

He also made statements such as "Jews and Gentiles are the devils", black men who have sex with white women should be killed, spoke against inter-racial marriages and homosexuals:

http://www.breitbart.com/london/201...he-century-but-tyson-fury-is-beyond-the-pale/

"Muhammad Ali had far worse views than anything Tyson Fury has said. For example, Ali openly said that black men who have sex with white women should be killed, that the mixing of the races is an abomination and that homosexuality is a white man’s disease. Here is a direct quote:

"All Jews and gentiles are devils… Blacks are no devils… Everything black people doing wrong comes from (the white people): Drinking, smoking, prostitution, homosexuality, stealing, gambling: It all comes from (the white people)”

...... and yet somehow is rarely mentioned in conjunction with his persona.

I am glad he is dead.

That "analysis" is from a member of the UK Independence Party. I wouldn't exactly consider that or your other source a reliable or unbiased source.

I am glad he is dead.

What a terrible thing to say about anybody. For shame.

You belong on the ignore list for that last sentence in your post.

There is a new thread in the PI forum for people like you who want to express their anger.
