He was suffering from Parkinson's disease for many years. This sounds like a serious situation, with his family gathered around him, in a hospital in Phoenix. He was admitted just yesterday.

For the longest time he lived about 10 minutes away from where I grew up. We'd see him around town every now and then. RIP The Greatest - a great man who showed the world that anything was possible and achievable, including successfully and courageously standing up to an arrogant U.S. Government over the Vietnam War and showing the world that you follow your conscience and what you feel to be the right thing to do, and not blindly follow Government's simply because they tell you to

I am not a boxing fan but Ali transcended his sport like no other athlete. It was sad to see him in recent years with the Parkinsons totally dominating his life but it is also easy to remember him as the giant he was.

It seems like a star comes out of every Olympics & for the 1960 Olys it was Ali. I had never watched the boxing before but for the 1st time it because a must-watch sport. And he wasn't just another athlete. I've always thought Ali was the most beautiful man I'd every seen. When he was young his body was absolute perfection. It was painful to see him when Parkinson's started taking a toll. I've always been glad he was given the honor to light the torch in Atlanta 1996. RIP
