Brief observations
  • Hyunseo Park not in
  • Yelim Kim not in, expected due to injury
  • Dabin Choi not in
  • Heesue Han not in
  • Minsol Kwon not in, contrary to previously shared news
  • No teams entered for junior dance, recall that none of them have JWC technical minimums for this season
  • Cho/Marinsky not in (Not registered athletes under the KSOC as of yet, Cho has already confirmed in her YouTube comments that they will not be able to participate in the upcoming Nationals, there is also the question of Marinsky's release)

My understanding is that Shin stayed in Korea between the Ranking Competition and Korean Nationals, training with Chi Hyun-jung. (https://x.com/0319jiia/status/1863177381877547244) I recall fan speculation that she needs to take Finals (as part of minimal requirements for elite athletes relating to academics and attendance) which explains why she would stay during that time period, though I'm not personally intimately familiar with relevant regulations and their details.

According to fans that met her after Nationals, Shin said she will be returning to Canada (https://x.com/jiajoha/status/1875832827167781301?s=46)

This is all I know of this matter.

Read on TW that somehow Cha Jun-hwan' scores/results at Asian Games might impact whether or not he will be drafted for military conscription, is that any truth in that? Thanks for anyone who will help!

Yes, this is the Art and Sports Personnel system [EN Wikipedia Page] To be incorporated as sports personnel in place of traditional military service, one needs 3rd place or higher in the Olympic Games, or 1st place in the Asian Games. (Relevant section here in Korean) No other sports competition are considered for this.

Here is a relevant article (in English), refer to the section on military 'exemption'.

What I don't understand is whether this is a one-off, or if you need to re-qualify for every year in the service period. Also, if it's qualify once, it applies to the entire service period, and, if you qualify once, do you need to be of service age?

The last Asian Winter Games were in 2017, and Cha didn't compete in them. He was 5th in the Winter Olympics.

I know this doesn't apply to athletes, but Prix de Lausanne is listed, and there is no overall winner there: there are multiple winners, each given a different prize. Among this year's winners is 16-year-old Park YounJae, who won Foundation Caris and Best Young Talent Award (Nureyev Foundation). He is the first Korean male to win. Is this a lifetime exemption for him?

Eligibility for Art and Sports Personnel does not require re-qualification, it only needs to happen once, and it can happen before service age.

The 2016 Ranking Competition was the 2017 Asian Winter Games qualifier for Figure Skating back then. Cha won the event for Senior Men Singles, but eligibility for the 2017 Asian Winter Games required participating skaters to be at least 15 years old by July 1, 2016, so Cha was not eligible (born October 21, 2001).

BTW Prix de Lausanne was delisted as a qualifier for Art Personnel 2 years ago, I recall this stirring up the ballet community back then. Back when it was though, the eligibility condition would have been 2nd place or higher, as it is for other int'l competitions that act as qualifiers.

That would be hard at Prix de Lausanne, which only has multiple winners, not ranked among them, and then other awards, like audience favorite. The winners earn scholarships to the participating pre-professional schools of their choice. But, sadly, it's moot now for Park YounJae :( .

Shoma Uno and Boyang Jin would have been formidable competition for Cha at the 2017 Asian Winter Games, had he been eligible.

Thank you for your quick answer!

Chaeyeon and Jun both won with amazing FS that were tough, but not impossible to beat. It just so happened that both Kaori and Yuma are upgrading their jump layouts, and thus they both had struggles. Long term, it may be smarter to take the loss now for the sake of stronger tech in the future, but it was pretty exciting for the Korean team.

Young You's one-year suspension has been lifted.

Per Google Translate -

According to the legal community on the 26th, the 21st Civil Affairs Department of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Jeong-min) accepted the injunction to suspend the disciplinary action filed by female figure skater B on the 25th.

The court ruled that it was difficult to conclude that B's act of filming the person's body was an act that caused sexual humiliation or disgust.
...
However, the court found that there was no evidence to support the fact that B showed or distributed the person's photo to A.

The fact that the person concerned, who confirmed that B had never shown the photo to anyone, submitted a petition stating that he had "never been sexually harassed," also worked in B's favor.
