Sarina Joos has aged out of juniors so that’s a little odd

Olympic selection criteria

Single and Pairs

For European Championships, World University games, Olympics (See Article 35 of the Rules), YOG the
ranking is calculated by summing the total score of the Italian Senior elite Championships with the 2 highest total
scores obtained in Type A or B competitions, as indicated in Paragraph B, Articles 2 and 3, multiplied by the
respective coefficients indicated in points 4, 5 and 6

Paragraph B

1. For the purpose of ranking calculation, races are divided into two types:
  • Type A races
  • Type B races

2. To Type A races belong:
  • Italian Junior and Senior Championships, Elite category
  • Challenger circuit competitions
  • ISU Championships
  • ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final and series (Grand Prix competitions)
  • ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Fina land series (Junior Grand Prix competitions)
  • ISU World Team Trophy in Figure Skating
  • Figure Skating Olympic Qualifying Competition
  • EYOF
  • YOG
  • Olympics
  • World University Games

3. To Type B competitions belong:
  • International competitions on the ISU calendar not listed in Article 2
  • Interclub competitions on the FISG calendar
  • International interclub competitions on the ISU calendar
  • Elite band Italian Championship Trials

4. Type A races have full value (100%): the total score is not multiplied by any coefficient.

5. Type B races have reduced value (95%): the total score is multiplied by 0.95. Only one Type B race (the best) can have full value for ranking calculation purposes.

6. For the Senior Pairs category: in the event that it is not possible to participate in challenger events due to concomitance of the same with GP events, a second type B competition may be given 100% value. The scheduling of competitions must in any case be agreed upon with the TC and approved by the sector advisor.

Article 32
In the event that the difference in ranking points between two or more athletes competing for the designation is less than or equal to:
  • 30 points in the male category
  • 20 points in the female category
  • 20 points in the pairs category

the Technical Committee may propose the convocation of athletes in the next ranking positions. The choice will also take into account the ISU ranking and, for the Junior Worlds, YOG and EYOF, the performance of the compulsory elements in the Short Program.

Article 35

In order to ensure that the best performing athletes are entered in the Olympic Games and ISU Championships, the Technical Committee may in any case propose, with its own reasoned opinion, designations in deviation from these Rules, taking into consideration additional parameters, listed below:
  • for men, women and pairs: the average of the total scores obtained in all competitions valid for ranking purposes; the safety of execution of the elements (percentage of correct execution, including the level, of the elements in the competitions performed); the consistency of the various performances in the competition; the result of direct clash competitions in which all the designable athletes participate
  • for men: the consistency of performing two quadruplets in the short program and at least two quadruplets in the free;
  • for women: the consistent execution of three triples in the short program,
  • for pairs: the execution of one side by side triple jump in the short program.

Ice Dance

For European Championships and and Olympic Games, the ranking is calculated by summing the total score of the Italian Senior Championships with the average of the 3 highest total scores obtained in previous competitions on the national and/or international calendar.

In the event that the difference in ranking points between two or more pairs competing for the designation is less than or equal to:
- 25 points
the Technical Committee may propose the summoning of athletes in the next ranking positions. ISU ranking will also be taken into account in the choice and, for Junior Worlds, YOG and EYOF, the execution of the elements in the RD.
