German Skating News - Part 3

German press heading into words:
http://www.sport.de/news/ne2679251/deutsches-top-paar-reist-bescheiden-zur-wm/

- Bruno has bac problems, they are back in full practice since 2 weeks
- König: 'A medal would be a dream, but we have to be cool and realistic'
- Schott has a cold and muscle problems :drama:
- Fentz has problems with his tibia
- Dönsdorf (head of egrman fed): 'Goal for Fent and Schott to finish Top20, which is doable and should be enough for securing the olympic spots'
- Kavita/Joti went to Oberstdorf a week ago to avoid jet lag problems

What I don't understand is, why are they sending athletes, when they are not fit? There are substitutes, who are roughly equal in their content. Or are Liebers and Weinzierl not fit, too?

Seems like Joti and Kavita are the only ones who may deliver a PB. :cheer2:Fingers crossed

I hope that Aliona and Bruno will play save as at Euros and ditch the two-footed throws :)

Well, seems like no one is fit....

Ask the top athletes if they have pain. They have phyical problems everywhere and everytime. Javier bavame World champion with serious problems last year.

I think Fentz' and Schott's problems are quite normal. Bruno's back seems to be a bit more serious. Nevertheless the go for the 3ATh. The chance for the medal is there. Even Gold is possible.

Minerva and Nolan with new personal best in SP! Marvellous!
But probably still not enough to advance to the final.

What happened to Zoe & Chris? 4.96 for Performance .. ?

Long article in daily newspaper Welt about Savchenko and Szolkowy and the different paths they took after Sochi. It's a nice wrap up about their lifes since then: their (not so different) goal of winning gold at Olys, their marriages, they are not close, but have a respectful relationship

https://www.welt.de/sport/winterspo...aumpaar-jetzt-kaempfen-sie-gegeneinander.html

Portait on Aliona in Sächsische Zeitung (German): https://www.sz-online.de/nachrichten/das-gefuehl-zu-atmen-3647120.html The feeling to breathe

It's about her life now. Past things are past. Very positive about Alexander König, her new coach: positive enrgy, her sunshine: When she is in a bad mood before training, she goes home happy after training.

Great skate of Aliona and Bruno!!! Hope they will do such inspiring choreographies in the olympic season too. Interesting: third olympic cycle in a row Aljiona could have brought Germany 3 olympic spots, but german fed obviously does not want them.

I think it is not whether they want them or not; I think it was right to send H/S along with S/M to the Worlds.
Because:
- it would not be fair not to send a pair that has qualified
- it was not given that Aliona and Bruno would come in second
- we do not have three pairs on Worlds level, do we?

Yes. Personally I would amend the rules so a team that only submitted one can only earn two spots the next year.

Oh yes, this was far from perfect, but da Schott got her shit together and got again great pcs scores. Finally the judges realize :encore:
Well done Nicole! I hope, now you have earned the spot, you will hang on to it and get to compete next year in Korea! Slay! Big time!
Weinzierl. Bock. Dastich.
Kudos for today! :respec:

There are 2 pairs preparing for the battle and I personally like all of those 4 skaters more just because they are better and more entertaining skaters. Let's see how they will transform into new pairs. But I hope haase seegert will not get this olympic spot. For them doing a SP at World's was obviously more important than the Olympics. It was crystal clear that they are not able to make it into the final or even on 11th or 12th place. So go Mari, go Ruben!

Matti Landgraf's last competition (as a junior!) has 5 years passed. And you compare that to H/S skating? Interesting move.

You spoke to them knowing that? Maybe they are a couple believing in themselves getting the spot next year. Maybe they are a couple not wanting to stay home for worlds (once more) only for being (possibly) left off for olympics again. Maybe german fed did leave them no choice (fundings, etc.).

It was crystal clear that they are not able to make it into the final or even on 11th or 12th place.
It was crystal clear that even Mari/Ruben would have not been ensured of the final and would for sure not ended up 11th or 12th.
H/S had their best skate at worlds, deliverd (for the first time!) a great 3twist, beat the US champs and got a new SB.

I want Mari for Olympics, that's for sure, and I fear I will get in a dilemma because I might like Annika/Ruben too. Very likely I like both teams more than H/S. But your attitude towards them might be one reason I cheer for them even louder next season! They deserved this spot. They stole it from no one!

Good job Hase/Seegert!

Oh yes. Nicole really got her damn shit together. This was nice!

Hase/Seegert did a great job. It was the right decision by the DEU to start here. You have to take the chances you get in your life because noone knows what will happen next year. Injury or something else.

The biggest problem at this pair event was the fact that there were only 16 spots for the FS. We need at least 20!

Another gutsy skate from Fentz (watch before it's too late). TES below Euros in spite of 2 4T. His 2nd 3A was UR + fall. In second half of program he lightens up a bit and shows, that he also could be a performer. If he works further on that, he'll be likely going to Olys – as long as he keeps his nerves in check.

I like that he his now more reliable. He shows more trust in himself. I stopped holding my breath when he skates.

Edit: Some TV network who thinks it owns all the internet rights on use of Men sakting has had taken down the video

I go with the German press that was calling this SP tame and conservative. But sometimes there are just different opinions. Hase Seegert are skating for 3 years together and I would expect more of them.
Matti Landgraf has worked as a show skater for the last years. So I expect at least entertaining programs of Mari and Matti. Besides the elements, that are mostly the same (except for the best teams that do quadruple throws and twists) I like the teams that are innovative and touch me. Germany at this moment just has Aliona and Bruno who can do this. Thank god we will at least see them for another year!

Hase and Seegert are still young, she's only 17, give them some more time. Presentation skills are not often there right away. I see personality in the making for them, they are very cute together.

Can someone please slap the german press in the face?
All articles (with exception) Aliona/Bruno are horrendous :angryfire

Last season both, Weinzierl and Streubel, failed to make the cut. Now both single skaters make the cut and even secured the olympic quota spots. I mean Hendrickx, 4th of Europeans walks home empty-handed and Fentz got the ticket.

Get your shit together dear journalists! Some fair articles would be nice for gods sake!

Most of them don't have any clue about figure skating. Most of them are lazy on research too. They just write what dpa/sid gives to them. Nobody ever puts performance into perspective, which is clearly one of the main purposes/tasks of the press: to inform the public accordingly.

So in this case for instance they could have looked up that H/S delivered PB by about 8 pts, more than 15% better than previous PB.

At least the German fed finds nice words about their athletes: http://www.eislauf-union.de/events/internationale-events/wm
