She said if someone ie Charlie could not get a move she would tell him Scott can do it (which she said was not true) so he would go out and try harder to get the move. She seemed quite proud of her little tricks. That is manipulation.
A lot of parents do that.

Marina and T/M definitely have potential to be great so I'm excited. I know they want to try a lot of things style wise but hopefully Marina will be persuasive enough to steer them correctly. I do trust her judgement so more bad clueless programs! :cheer2:

But why aren't they cutting the cord with Mozer completely? Evgenia really needs her that much?

That point could come eventually if and when Zhenya feels comfortable with Marina, so she won’t Need Nina at the boards when they skate. It is too early for that. They have to get acquainted with each other, develop a coach- student relationship, take out the kinks, etc.

Very soon (before the 2022 Olympics) we will see many ladies land quads and/or triple axels.

It’s exciting, but I’m nervous about how many injuries there will be. When this idea happened in pairs, Natalia Zabiiako ended up almost dead in a hospital from a head injury because they were training a throw triple axel. Just a friendly reminder.

That’s what sports and athletes do. They take risks. They push themselves to test their limits. They are not ordinary people who choose to be safe.

I’m excited about T/M working with Zoueva. I think she’s limited in ice dance choreography, but pairs have so many elements that I think she’ll have an easier time. I find her pairs choreography to be really good in the past few years.

Who is Nina? I know Nia is Medvedeva. Who the H is Nina? And why are they turning her into a bad retro JSlo?

Here is the FSGossips English translation of the interview with Polina Shuboderova about Eteri Tutberidze, her group, and her training methods: https://fs-gossips.com/for-tutberidze-either-you-are-among-the-leaders-or-you-are-nowhere/

-- Shuboderova states that the Tutberidze students are weighed each day and are allowed only a 200-gram (0.44 pound) variance in weight, day to day.

Just weighing every day, you have to right (write?] to miss it, just like training. At exactly the same time except for your day off. Your weight can deviate a maximum of 200 grams.

-- She states that they must do the same type/amount of jumping each day, regardless of injury etc. Only serious injuries would excuse a skater from the daily jumping requirements.

Just day after day, from morning to evening, you do the same thing. There is no such thing as “tired, I can’t”. If you are tired or you are injured, you still go on the ice and work. Even if you have two toes broken, you just go and do the same thing a hundred times a day. ..... In Eteri Tutberidze’s group they say about injuries when it’s something serious, but such minor ones, well they just train with them.

-- Her comments on interactions with Tutberidze:

At the training camp in Novogorsk, I got another injury, my heel ached. I still skated, jumped. Could not get out of the rink to put the ice. Every day it was harder to talk with Eteri Georgievna, it seemed she wasn’t interested in working with me. .... She withdrew me from the competition. There were even such situation that it was announced to me and another athlete before one competition: now you will have a run-through and I will decide whether you go or not. I did everything, she said no. .... I didn’t understand what she meant, there was no clear line. She constantly said that it was necessary to quit, then after good trainings she didn’t say anything.

Not caring about injuries is fine when you have a queue of junior skaters lined up out the back to take the other's place and obviously, a favourable system of state funding in place to facilitate such a queue.

Although, I will be watching with interest where this is all heading in the longer term.

The internet seems to be full of people who presume that the current crop of juniors are going to sail through to 2022 without a problem.

I don't see anyone saying it could be clear sailing for anything but a single season, based on recent dominance by the first and second year senior skaters. In fact, people are looking to see who will make her senior debut in 2021-22 and who will push aside the by then passe and bypassed ancient 17-year-old Trusova, Scherbakova, and Kostornaia.

Shuboderova is a nice skater, but her jumps are at best "average" if not "sometimes weak". I was pretty sure she is taking a year off and planning to skate for Israel. But now she is saying that there is one more option to skate for a country that will still get her to Europeans. It could be Belоrussia i guess, since Yagudin is now officially the head of the new Belorussian Ice Skating programme... interesting what country she'll chose.

She is an expressive skater, but needs work on technical elements. But it is certainly better than what Israel or Belorussia has now... ;)

The interview not surprising. Very telling that she mentions knowing Medvedeva would be leaving Eteri at some point. Question why the coach acted shocked. I feel for the injured children.

It's just the figure skating culture in their context, the competition is tough and you're nothing or nobody without medals, for both coach and athlete. You just have to decide for yourself if this is all worth it. What will you do or sacrifice to achieve that medal and be within the elite? I'm beginning to understand the bile that EV throws at Eteri, but she couldn't do what she does without the consent of parents and the Russian federation. I have even more admiration and Mishin and Moskvina and I respect those who know how and when to walk away with their dignity. That's all.

It’s easy to get complete and utter obedience from children for a short period - at that age your cup is much smaller and easier to fill. I remember it myself.

If your weight deviates by more than 100grams and your jumps aren't working, there is something wrong with the technique being taught. Reading the whole interview is disturbing. Everyone is disposable to Eteri and the ones who aren't winning are tossed out like garbage. These are children we're talking about!

How does the weight deviation thing work when you have a whole group of kids that are growing?

I guess they're only allowed to grow by 200g a day... What happens if a skater fails a weighing, are they sent home? It seems to me this kind of thing is as much about asserting the coach's control as it is about the practical benefits (if any). I mean, why 200g and not 205g - it's quite arbitrary? And what use would there really be in weighing them every day?

I keep wanting to give Eteri the benefit of the doubt but her methods do seem really unhealthy for her students' long-term well-being.

Eteri's attitude about weight is about as healthy as Ernest Hemingway's attitude about alcohol was.

Almost like a cult...Very uneasy when she has photo ops of the kids pigging out and they are all smiling like they are pulling the wool over someone's eyes. fun but not fun.
