How many lessons do they need? It's been the story of their entire career...

Actually they were skating well early in their career. They were not given good programs. Their coach neglected them. I have seen them skate with freedom at the 2016 Olympics. They placed highest among the three Russian pairs there. The other two pairs had won Olympic gold and silver, but could not deliver at the 2016 worlds when they were healthy. T&M were better.

In her interview Zhenya described her struggles during the Olympic season. They did better this season. So they did learn from their Olympic season.

Finally, Sui Han did not suddenly become what they are. They went through their learning curve too.

Mishin IS a grandpa. His grandson is Alexei too. Mishin often greets him from kiss-and-cry: "Alyosha! Alyoshik! Hi!"

Since March 1 2019 he also has a granddaughter. Ekaterina.

That’s so cute! Aww, I love that.

Saw posted other boards that it was because Alina had a mental breakdown. Not dealing with being hunted and not hunter. Pressure get to her. No injuries. She doesn’t handle pressure. This comes from other forums. Not sure if truth. Anyone know if this right?

Well if I was under the amount of stress she is under, I’d have a mental breakdown too.

Z/E... i just have to post this (from the WC dinner)... they look great!

Danny is cute and has great clothes, but he's a hack of a choreographer. Say what you want about Averbukh, but aside from that pretentious 9/11 program, his programs for Tutberidze skaters were far superior.

Agree. Daniil is pretty, but I don’t like him because he seems a little too interested in Alina, and she’s still only 16. He is the one who choreographed that tiger woman exhibition. But that’s another story.

Tursy is Kazakh, I assume. Do they have anyone else, at all? What's Tuktamysheva's ethnic background? Her last name does not sound Russian.

She’s from Udmurtia which is in Russia. If a lady’s last name ends in “ova” or “eva”, it’s Slavic-based. Case in point: Zagitova, Medvedeva, Konstantinova, Tarasova, Bobrova

Beautiful piece of music. I think I will like this very much.

Tarasova/Morozov new exhibition program, choreographed by Stephane Lambiel

Stunning! I love her dress.

Tarasova is gorgeous. She looks happier too. It seems like the tension is gone between her and Morozov. They have so much going for them, if they only could put it all together and ATTACK their FS. So frustrating to see them not to be able to fulfill their considerable potential (yet).

She’s so pretty it’s unreal. When I was watching that gala I couldn’t help thinking she looks like she came out of Moulin Rouge.
I think this year, they did what they could, considering the coaching situation. This season was a huge step in the right direction with the choreo; maybe next year will be their season to shine.

Not necessarily. Last names ending on -ev/a can often imply Tatar/Bashkir/Ossetian etc. background. Take Alina Kabaeva, Alan Dzagoev, Rudolf Nureyev, Vladislav Mirzoev etc.

I was curious about this as well and I thought I remembered reading that her last name was the same as that of a historic figure but now I can't find the reference.

ZagitOVA is Tatar. In fact, you shouldn’t be looking at anything, because surnames in Russia are made according to the Russian language models regardless of any ethnic details. Just because Russians are a domineering ethnic group.
What you should be looking at is the the root of the surname. Tuktamysheva has a fair chance of turning out to be a Turkic root, but loads of Russians have surnames of Turkic origin. But what she hasn’t got is a surname which usually denotes Udmurts. I lived in Udmurtia, I know what those sound like.

Yuzu is a great comparison. I wish Alina's team would study his FS. If he can do a 300-pt Lp with a 4T-3A etc etc and still fit in a glorious Shiz-style Ina Bauer there's no reason Alina can't do the same. She has a lovely one and it's frustrating to see her throw it down, so to speak, and not hold it. Every time I see it I hope this will be the time she holds it for a few seconds but nope, she has to move on to the next transition. I wonder if we'll see the ISU crack down on that, as they did with the backloading of jumps this season.

the problem is the judges are not marking correctly. If it is a top scoring skater without transitions they should get 7 and below...if have transistions but done poorly 8's...if have transitions and done well 9's. (IMO)

Can someone fill me in -- is Tsurskaya continuing? Any updates on her? I still love her skating!
Not much about her skating in the news. But on social media, the latest are these two:
- congratulations to "Defenders of Motherland" on Feb. 23. 2019 (it is a government holiday, to praise men who defend the country). She says "dear men of Russia, congratulations, wishing you courage, strength and honorable actions".

- and this foto without any annotations (posted after Russian nationals, in january)

There are photos with her at CSKA rink through February '19, on ice, in skating outfits, which suggest she was practicing. Nothing on open-access social media since then, that i have seen.

I thought "Kent Clark and Lois Lane", but T and N work too..

The vk links don't work for me (not a member) but thanks for the update.
The video is in VK, but without registration requirement. it could be the "system".

The 2nd foto is this: https://pp.userapi.com/c851032/v851032488/80ee9/hhAYhBqArjY.jpg
(it's Eteri teaching Tsurskaya hand movements, from previous season, but posted it after Russian nationals on Jan 2)

Maxim Kovtun's appearance last night. He was giving an interview (in Moscow) on one of the Russian channels, giving a recap of Worlds. not one word about his skating future.

Somebody was asking earlier when will Sambo-70/Eteri's group will get the 2nd rink, given all her new pupils.
This info came out just now: statement from General Director of Sambo-70, Renat Liyashev.

"Thanks to the efforts of Eteri Tutberidze, the 2 new ice arenas (training complex) in Yasnevo (district in Moscow), will be completed by 2020. The centre will have an interesting configuration - 1 hockey rink in the centre, and 2 ice rinks (for figure skating) on each side. They (construction workers) managed to save all the trees growing nearby. It is all happening because of Tutberidze's efforts/results."

Is that the right time to shout TarMor, move to Moskvina/Vassiliev!!!
Would Moskvina take them? I think they could be magical in the right hands. But Tamara has Boikova / Kozlovskii. Granted B&K are much younger, but they could be TarMor's direct competitors for Russian #1 within a couple of years. All they lack is a bit of polish and power, and that will come with age.

Where else could they go, if they don't want to move to St. Petersburg or Moskvina doesn't want to take them?

They aren't leaving Mozer. Tarasova likes Mozer a lot. Max only agreed to coach for one season while Mozer was recovering from her illness. She seems to be recovered and back at the rink.

I read an interview translated on GS where Nina Mozer said she doesn’t want to coach anymore though and they will assess for the future after April 15

Mozer said that she is still tired from coaching and doesn’t want to do it

The coaching situation around T/M is so weird. They're the top pair in the country, yet no one seems to want them. Considering how much Evgenia seems to like Mozer, I do find Mozer's clear lack of interest in them in some interviews to be really :(.

Max never said he wouldn't work with them any more. He said it's too early for him to take responsibility for one of the top teams in the world, he doesn't have enough experience to be their main coach, but would still like to work with them in some capacity, as a second coach or consultant. And yes, Nina is not interested in being a full time coach either.

Evgenia just said yesterday that they plan to keep working with him:

A question from the pair coach - Maxim Trankov: "Is it true that your coach is still a козёл?"

No that's not true. Those who say so do not know much. Maxim is very good, kind and responsive and always helps, no matter what. We plan to work with Maxim further.

Meanwhile, Ksenia and Andrei Novoselov are going to stay in Perm and train with Nikolai Morozov:

Mozer has her own issues. I think if she could give them 100% (physically and mentally), she would.

My mother's thoughts: "Maybe they'll go with Cain & Le Duc to Texas. And Mozer too. Why not? We've got Marina in the warm sunshine."

Also Szolkowy is in California. There's sunshine there too.

(In all seriousness, I guess they'll figure it out).
