When is the Russian Grand Prix event? To me, it would make sense for S/K to let the Russia Cup go, focus on the Russia Grand Prix event, and for RusFed to bye them to nationals either based on their Euros Championship last year, or to use the Grand Prix event to qualify.

Given S/K are ranked no. 1 in the ISU rankings, I cannot imagine that for one minute they will not be given a bye to Nationals, regardless of where they do or do not compete before Nationals. (unless injured of course)

The rules were put in place to make sure everyone competes in the Russian cup comps.
Once that objective has been achieved, IMO they will most likely bye all of the National team to Nationals unless injured.

However, better not to take the risk and compete in 2 comps if possible.

Ah, thanks @Sylvia - that's not so bad then re: Sochi, a month away. Hopefully Vika can be well-recovered by then, but it's not worthwhile to push it if she isn't completely ready.

Yes, but there is another competition much earlier than that. Panin memorial is 13-16th October.

Trusova looks like she's got the bit back back between her teeth, there will be no stopping her if she keeps it there!

She is a real competitor in the same vein as Plushenko, so a good match IMO.
A much better match than between him and Kostornaia. She's a wonderful skater, but much less of a fierce competitor, IMHO. Trusova has a fire inside her to push the boundaries and to win. She will master that 3A so she is competitive with Kostornaia, Akira, You and Tuk in the SP. If she lands the quads she'll win the FS.

Let’s not forget Alysa Liu in the mix!

And Pluschenko just beat Tutberidze. Valieva needs more quads.

oh, Pluschenko getting a medal. He must love that!
Trusova is still skating on Tutberideze's reserve, it's been just few months with Pluschenko. She is not doing any more quads in her FS than she did before, nor landing more of them cleanly. Trusova is becoming more mature so naturally her skating is slightly more mature, and that would have happened with any coach. We'll see in a year or so if Pluschenko gave her anything significant.

What i can't figure is how Usacheva and Trusova ended up with almost identical FS programmes.... :)

Tatiana Navka announced her Winter Holidays show. It will be "Sleeping Beauty" again, with Alina Zagitova.

If Sasha hits her quads she wins. True. That was the case with Kamila today. if she nails her free skate she wins if she doesnt she settle for something other than gold. She made a few key mistakes and opened the door for Sasha. Thats the risk reward these 2 are doing.

Plushenko didnt win anything. Valievas mistakes opened the door for Sasha. Just like when Sasha makes mistakes in her free skate others (Aliona and Anna) win. That the risk and reward business of quads and super tough free skates.

This was a minor event not nats or euros. Good experience for Kamila and Daria for sure. Sasha is looking good early this season and I would have written the same thing if she won the silver. In fact I am shocked that so many girls are in good form after such a disaster of an offseason with no or limited training due to covid. Any lady other than Kamila Sasha Aliona or Anna winning Rusnats would be shocking. Unles ISU changes the rule 1 of these brilliant talents wont be in the next winter olympics!:mad:

Sasha Trusova looks great. I'm not worried, and I hope her team is not worried either, about the mistakes she made in this competition. She looks really healthy and strong doing these elements. The other girls are smaller but they look so fragile. She also improved a lot artistically as well and I really enjoy her power across the ice. I hope her team is playing the long game with her. It seems she has a much better competitive head than Aliona, and I don't know Aliona, but she appears more emotional than Sasha out there. I also think that she seems prone to injury.

All these kids, they have to peak at the right time. I think that Trusova has it in her to bring maturity and technical ability to the games in 2022. Her jumps look better now too, in spite of her growth.

Daria was easily the only one with the complete package today. It's unfortunate she doesn't have the technical BV otherwise she should have won.

And boy did she expose the poor components of Trusova! In the first five seconds she showed more musicality then Trusova showed in the whole four minutes. Skating the same music only made it more obvious. Trusova still skates through the music with zero connection. She speeds through all the movements like a robot and isn't even trying. How she (or Kamila for that matter) beat Daria in the PCS is beyond me

I somewhat disagree... I think powerful music suits Trusova. Hopefully Daria can get a quad or a triple axel as she is super talented and under the radar

According to the Fed website, the Russian cup no. 3 in Sochi is on the 23-27 October, so only 12 days away.
Competition Calendar
Her injury if not tended to carefully could degenerate. A two day rest may not be sufficient. These acts of bravado are reckless. It is not worth it in a gap season, get yourself ready for the next. I am not a fan of theirs but the material looked promising, so it might be best to err on the sign of caution. My annoyance mind you is not with S/K per say but Zhulin.

I haven't seen this competition yet but from when I saw her last season (junior worlds? I can't even remember which competition it was), Daria seems so mature too, in the way she speaks and carries herself.

Wow. I really liked Morozova and Bagin today, the best of everyone I saw. I really prefer them to K/B to be honest. I hope they can get unto the team. With all my love to Z/G, these two have much better presentation and much better programs.

Totally agree. I see a good deal of improvement. She is skating to the music. It is like she takes just a breath of time and adds it to each element making it special and showcasing it....rather than running from here to there there....throw out an arm.....run over to the next corner throw out hand jump....repeat.

Zhulin in need of another :kickass:?! How many times does he need to get his @$$ kicked? Not sure he has one anymore. Stubborn. He'll never learn. :violin:

I was theorizing in the S/K fan thread that perhaps he fears if they go away, even just for a little bit with a legit reason, it will give the federation the excuse to make S/B their #1 team again.

Or maybe he's just flat out stupid and out of touch with reality :wall:
