At least in most other countries, the ladies still have a chance to make the national team without the content (Medvedeva & Zagitova would still be going to Euros, Worlds, etc if they competed for another country). Impossible to pull a Kostner in Russia.

For sure.

Several technical elements, besides jumps, are scored and assigned levels, which play significant role in the total score, and lack of quality in any of them can lose an event for skater: several spin combinations and step sequences.

In SP - tech. elements: 3 jump elements, and 4 other elements.
In FS - tech. elements: 7 jump elements, and 5 other elements.
... and we know that even if high tech score, you can still win with PCS.

The number of jump-elements has not increased, it just that these elements "are getting a bit harder".

There were days when most people jumped doubles, and triples were a big deal, and then 3x3 was considered out of this world..... Evolution, you can't stop it. Figure Skating is a SPORT, not a theatrical venue.. :D
But the other elements don't carry near the score as jumps. I wish for instance that there was the posssibility of a spin getting 7-8 points. There have been amazing spinners like Tim Dolensky and Alicia Czisney - it's a rare as prodigy jumpers - but not so valued (literally). Wonder how the sport would look if some other elements had thee possibility of bigger scores. Of course we'd have the same problem of judges giving highest marks to average spinners because they jump good.

Mikhail Kolyada on Instagram on his surgery:
Friends, hello everyone!
I underwent surgery on October 31st, according to the doctors everything went well, and I will still live😁
Now it's time for recovery, and very soon I will start training with new nose and new enthusiasm😄

I would like to express my gratitude to the Federation of Figure Skating of Russia and St. Petersburg for their help and support during this difficult time.
And also many thanks for their support to the fans, who wrote me personal messages throughout this time and did not forget me.

Most importantly, I want to tell this to my beloved wife.
From the age of 15 I was afraid to admit my feelings, I thought that you would not understand me and our communication would end, but now I can openly say that I have loved you all these years and continue to love you!

Now it’s a rather difficult period in my life, but no matter what, every day you help me find motivation, you always support me in everything.
Thank you so much !!!
Dashulya, I love you very much❤
Ps. I won’t show photos after the operation, otherwise everyone will feel bad.

But jumps for years and years carried higher point values..... ;) and it was not a problem оn any major scale, until....

Alena Kanysheva posted "I will be skating at Russian Cup 4 in Kazan"

He is adorable.
Kolyada is my favorite male skater, not just as a skater but as a human. He is one of the few who just skates and lives his life, without attacks on other skaters, stupid comments and fotos, and all sorts of other "poop" so many skaters dish to get ahead, to hurt a rival, to get attention (nowdays, since they all been given a gadget and 2 fingers).

I sure hope he skates again, soon, after he recovers.

His "nu pogodi" is my favorite programme still, where he is skating a cartoon character...

it's from this original cartoon.. :D

Elizaveta Tursynbaeva has jointed Averbuch's show cast in "Carmen" and "Nutcracker", which will premier in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan, starting Dec 16, 2019.

Liza says she is proud to join a cast of 80 skaters and big names, and that the show will start in Kazakhstan.

Channel 1 interview with Sinitsina/Katsalapov

Does anyone know...
Will Konstantinova really compete at Rostelecom GP event...after her poor Skate America showing?

I’m thinking that the Russian Fed. might not want to let her have it.
It’s not as if there is a queue of eligible ladies to take her place. At the moment, the best ones already got their spots, and from the rest...Sakhanovich did better at her first GP than Konstantinova, but not so well that I can see the Russian federation take any action to swap them. Tarusina retired. Gubanova doesn’t have a very good season. So all who is left is Nugumanova and Guliakova - neither of them is skating so well that the Russian federation will bother to swap them in instead of Konstantinova.

If she is healthy and ready, i am quite sure she will. RFed can't pull her out officially, theoretically they can "influence her to withdraw" but not without her consent to follow such "suggestion". Also, it would not make any strategic difference if Konstantinova is theoretically replaced by another Russian lady, because none that are remaining can influence the fight for the GPF.

few tidbits:

Maya Khromykh is starting to land 4S.

Volvo cup was interesting... :D

Ksenya Sinitsina skated SP at Volvo Cup, missed her first jump combo, currently in 6th place, but will likely make up the difference in FS. Her only competition is Shabotova (now rep. Ukraine), so it is 1 and 2 for either one of them.

Sinitsina SP (in 6th currently)

Shabotova SP (in 1st currently).

... however... something very interesting... Nina Mozer and Fedor Klimov were accompanying and training, this rather unknown skaters.. Varvara Kurosenko (one can see Mozer's profile during the skate, and sitting in Kiss and Cry with Fedor Klimov).

An interesting old comment from Alexei Mishin came up about jumps, in an old Russian interview from 2010.

"I fully understand the importance of the aesthetic side of figure skating, and give it plenty of attention. But, as one journalist said once, that the multi-rotational jumps, with 3.5 and 4 turns in the air, are the epitome (the essence) of macho skating in singles. I share that thought and believe myself that a refined footwork and prolonged spins in pretty poses - it's just a dressing. But the core of it all - is the beef steak, and not the potatoes or pasta".
:biggrinbo

I think you are mistaken. It is GP in Russia and therefore they can do whatever they want with or without her consent. Even if she doesn’t like it if they withdraw her, she wouldn’t be stupid enough to say it publicly. If she did, she may find out next season that she is not getting any international competitions, even just B competitions.

As far as I can tell from her Instagram, Fedor has been coaching her for about a year or so, and before that she was at Angels of Plushenko. She's not the first singles skater Fedor has worked with. I don't know if she has any prospects, but I do like her costume. 🤷‍♀️

I said they can "convince her", but she still has to sign some documents, and theoretically she may resits (not that anyone would). GP is not just "Russian event", a skater has to give a valid reason to the ISU. If RF would want her to withdraw and she objects (willing to take consequences), they would have to "forge her signatures" and tell a lie about her reasons. She may want to put everything on the line and say "no, i am not injured" or something. If someone is willing to take the results - one can object if eliminated against his her will. Just not many, or any, would do that.

Adelina is already relegated to the fairy godmother? Oh dear. She's ancient!
Her part is not that small, and she does not portray an "older woman". I saw clips, and Adelina has a lot of presence through out the show. And her costume is JUST AS glorious as "Cenderella's". I would be worried if she played Prince's Mother-queen...

A promo-video (but not the clips i saw), has both girls appearing in parts.

They both look stunning! Nice photo, 3 OGMs from Sochi. (y)

It would not be a first time if she was withdrawn.
Federations can find ways to withdraw skaters.
In Brian Joubert's final year of competing, he skipped French Masters, which is a compulsory competition for French skaters. In retaliation for breaking the rules, Didier Galliguet/FFSG removed Brian from his GPs, citing illness/injury, when Brian was in fact, perfectly healthy and very angry at being withdrawn.

Does ISU deal individually with the skaters? I would think that they deal with the federation, so whatever communication there would be between Konstantinova and ISU would be going through Russian federation. Which means that Konstantinova would have no input into what Russian federation decides to pass on.
