There was speculation that she may have an injury. Nobody knows for sure though. Her performance at last year’s worlds could be attributed to Olympics fatigue and distraction. It is harder to justify her mediocre to poor performances this year. I think that’s why people are having doubts about her. However, I think she will be held up to some extent as an OGM winner, even in Japan. She could medal.
Just to point out, Zagitova’s ‘poor and mediocre’ performances this season (if I can borow your words) were still better than the performances of Medvedeva and Tuktamysheva throughout this season. So why Medvedeva and Tuktamysheva’s ‘poor and mediocre’ performances should be forgotten and Zagitova’s not? I personally have no reason to Zagitova getting any preferential treatment, but your argument is lacking any logic.
