From Russia with love [#23]: Spring/Summer 2016

The quote in EV's article came from Buyanova, so it sounds like she certainly thinks she is done with him. They can't force them to keep training together if they aren't willing, can they? Though I don't want him in Inna's team either (nothing personal against him, really, I just wish Sergei & Elena could be her only main priorities for awhile).

Not bad coaching changes IMO. Buyanova can concentrate on Pitkeev and Sotnikova (if Adelina chooses to compete, fingers crossed!), and Kovtun can try something different, he needs it.

Her interview after Worlds indicated this might happen so I'm not certain why anybody is surprised.

Yeah, she definitely sounded like that in the post-Worlds interview...but TAT will be pissed as ****. That's it with politicking for Kovtun now.

Is there a reason why Russian men with jump issues don't go to Mishin? Is it the Moscow/funding/ice time issue? Or does Mishin not take on senior skaters unless he trained them from young?

TAT sounded pretty pissed with Kovtun all season if you heard her TV commentary

Send him over to Rafael.

In some interview she indicated that he is very talented but not very hard working, so I am not surprised that she wasn't very happy with him.

Do you mean Kovtun specifically? He has a history with Mishin.

He was also kicked out of Morozov's group...

But I don't think jumps are really his problem, it's mostly mental & I don't think he even knows what his motivation is to compete.

Hm, I am not a fan of Kovtun (far from it) but I guess all this situation is also TAT's and Buyanova's guilt - they forced him to move from juniors, add all these quads into the programs instead of working on PCS..
I mean, he may be lazy but TAT and Buyanova should also be somehow responsible for the result (and it is not the first CSKA male skater, who didn't succeed training with them)..

Kovtun was very clear. He knows how to do jumps himself and Mishin would be no help at all. Of course if you see his jumps you know Kovtun is horrible at them.

Ohh thanks for this! I love how he was pissed off that Mishin told him to change his jump technique  had he changed it at the age of 12, he would be a contender now.

Kovtun's main problems are not mental, but his motivation (or lack of) and laziness. He sees skating as a means to an end to becoming rich and famous, getting celebrity status and living a party lifestyle. He is more interested in dating models than he is in training. No coach will be able to fix this.

TAT didn't exactly help him with his attitude by giving him expensive presents all the time and thus "bribing" him into training.

I think Kovtun should go to Tsareva, for the singular reason we absolutely need to see more of her in the K&C next season. Can you imagine her face after a Kovtun meltdown? Priceless. :glamor:

Yes please. Hopefully Adoniev will make more appearances next season too :smokin:

Kovtun posted a long message on instagram about the move.
Google translate didn't help much, but here it is

Thanks. He says he is endlessly grateful to Buyanova. Made a decision alone, he behaved like a shit selfishly thinking of himself only and.trying to.work as much as possible on the programnes.so he will have something to take with him. He got a sceleton.of the LP working with Tchernyshev at nights and no SP. He knows his reasons, he is a 20y.o. man and is accountable for his decisions. He is very grateful to Buyanova and does not plan giving any interviews

"My love" -as you mentioned Plushenko - was in the same age when he received an offer from Hollywood to play a major role in a romantic movie. He would have been a talented skater who meets...etc. He accepted, but when he learned how much time making a film finally refused. I don't think that any other skater would have made this decision.
